Abstract: A method of producing a high opacity paper filler pigment which comprises subjecting an iron-stained titania-containing kaolin to beneficiation by froth flotation or high intensity magnetic separation; recovering the froth or magnet rejects, dewatering and drying the rejects to produce a kaolin enriched in titania, and calcining the same at a temperature in the range of about 1500.degree. to about 2200.degree. F.
Abstract: Beige-brown encapsulated pigments are obtained by means of the encapsulation of iron titanates of the formula Fe.sub.2 TiO.sub.5 in zirconium silicate crystals. The production takes place by calcining a mixture of zirconium oxide with a particle size distribution of .ltoreq.5 .mu.m and specific surfaces of .gtoreq.4 m.sup.2 /g, silicon dioxide and iron oxides and titanium oxides or oxide-forming Fe compounds and Ti compounds in the presence of mineralizers under oxidizing conditions at 800.degree. to 1300.degree. Abstract: Gray-black pigments are prepared by encapsulating iron titanates of formula FeTiO.sub.3 in zirconium silicate crystals. Manufacture is by calcining a mixture of zirconium oxide having a particle size distribution of 6 to 10 .mu.m and a specific surface area of 2 to 5.2 m.sup.2 /g, silicon dioxide and iron and titanium oxides or Fe and Ti compounds forming oxides in the presence of mineralizers under oxidizing conditions at 800 to 1300.degree. C. Finely divided FeTiO.sub.3 can also be used.

Abstract: The application relates to a preferably golden color luster pigment based on lamellar substrates, in particular mica, which have been coated with metal oxides, the metal oxide layer containing both titanium and iron and the pigment containing mainly a pseudobrookite layer formed by simultaneous precipitation of the metal oxides. This golden color luster pigment is suitable for cosmetic articles because of its physiological acceptability and is particularly suitable for silicate melts because of its resistance to heat and chemicals.

Abstract: Desirable high infra red reflecting brown rutile pigment compositions are described which comprise from about 40 to about 50% by weight of titanium, from about 2.3 to about 4.5% by weight of manganese, from about 7.3 to about 11% by weight of tungsten, from 0.05 to about 5% of lithium and from about 0.1 to about 20% of cerium. The invention also relates to the method of preparing the brown rutile pigment compositions and to the use of such pigments as colorants for polyvinyl halide compositions, and in particular, polyvinyl chloride compositions.
Abstract: The weatherability and lightfastness of TiO.sub.2 coated micaceous iron oxide (MIO) pigment may be improved by transforming the TiO.sub.2 present in the coating layer to rutile TiO.sub.2. Further improvement in the weatherability and lightfastness may be achieved by coating the pigment with an oxide of Cr, V, Mo, Al or a mixture thereof and/or a hydrous oxide of Cr or V, or a combination of two or more hydrous oxides of Cr, V, Al and Si.
Abstract: Iron oxide black pigments useful as coloring pigments for lacquers and plastics are prepared by an improved process wherein finely divided iron oxide black suspensions obtained from the precipitation processor the aniline process are filtered, washed, dried and ground with the improvement in the process comprising grinding the dried iron oxide pigment in a jet mill with air as the grinding medium and with a water content of from about 1 to 6% by weight based on the iron oxide black pigment input to the process.
