The admixtures contain complexes of metals with derivatives of hydroxycarboxylic acids, and improve properties of cement compositions, including setting, hardness, compressive strength, shrinkage, and freeze-thaw resistance. The invention discloses a method for improving the properties of hydraulic cements by adding the disclosed chemical admixtures to cement compositions, and also discloses methods of preparing said admixtures.

Abstract: Microparticles having crystalline needle or rod-shaped structures of, for example, an ettringite mineral grown and attached radially from their surface. A method including nucleating and growing crystalline needles/rods from the surface of a particle in the presence of a solution of calcium, sulfur, and aluminum such as calcium sulfoaluminate, lime and calcium sulfate is described. One example is the radial growth of ettringite needles on the surface of fly ash particles in calcium sulfoaluminate-based cement paste and concrete.

Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a treat chlorine bypass dust while preventing increases in chemical cost and concentrations of heavy metals in clinker, and ensuring stability in quality of cement. In a chlorine bypass facility 1 extracting a part G of combustion gas, while cooling it, from a kiln exhaust gas passage, which runs from an inlet end of a cement kiln to a bottom cyclone, and recovering a high chlorine concentration chlorine bypass dust D5 from the extracted gas G1, a slurry S containing chlorine bypass dust and SO2 gas or/and CO2 gas are contacted with each other to obtain solid content. The slurry containing chlorine bypass dust and an exhaust gas from the chlorine bypass facility or/and the exhaust gas from the cement kiln can be contacted with each other, and the solid content can be fed to a cement finishing process, which allows cement with low CaO and Ca(OH)2 contents and with stable property such as setting time to be produced.

Abstract: A method for reducing the particle size of a pozzolanic material includes providing a pozzolanic material having an initial particle size and heating the pozzolanic material to cause a portion of the particles to at least partially fracture. Fracturing the particles creates a plurality of fissures that define sub-particles within the particles. The method also includes processing the fractured pozzolanic material to separate the sub-particles, thereby yielding the pozzolanic material having reduced particles.
