Drilling Machines (i.e., Furrow Opener) Patents (Class 111/120)
  • Patent number: 5520125
Abstract: A rig assembly on a combination row crop cultivator and chemical applicator includes a knife or other applicator device supported in front of the cultivator sweep and behind the disk coulter blade. The sweep helps seal the chemical in the ground in certain soil conditions to prevent chemical loss, particularly when additional closing structure is not in use. A selectively attachable, shank-mounted closing mechanism, preferably a press wheel, may be mounted directly behind the sweep to assure a good chemical seal. Disk coulter support straps have flanges that provide a conveniently accessed mount for the applicator device and present minimal interference to trash and soil flow. A simple bracket connects an arm on the closing wheel mechanism to a central portion of the sweep standard. Numerous combinations of tools and tool mounting arrangements and adjustments are facilitated by the rig construction.

  • Patent number: 5460106
Abstract: A sub-soil injection device injects a soil additive, such as a pesticide, as included in a foam below the surface of soil. It concurrently distributes the foam into soil as the foam is injected resulting in an improved uniformity of distribution of soil additive in soil. The device comprises a tubular structure which mounts into the soil from a vehicle. It has first and second portions, leading and trailing portions, a lumen along its length, lateral portions and a plurality of spaced apart ports. Each port communicates the lumen with the trailing portion. Foam flowing out the ports moves backwardly. A shank structure precedes and shields the leading portion of the member. The shank structure has a forward-facing portion adapted to cut through soil. The shank structure and member are motivated by the vehicle in a forward direction through the soil. An apparatus utilizing the shank structure, the vehicle and a foam generator and a method of depositing a soil additive plowing in of foam are also set forth.

  • Patent number: 5370068
Abstract: A seedbed preparation apparatus attachable to existing seed planting devices comprising a coulter cart. The apparatus is designed to lessen the number of passes required to prepare and plant a field. Fertilizer delivery is provided to the soil raised by the coulter wheels. The fertilizer injector nozzles are secured to flexible mounting devices to permit the nozzle to move in accordance with the terrain preventing clogging or stoppage of the nozzles.
