  • Patent number: 5483907
Abstract: A rim liner member attached to and covering the face of a gauge wheel rim adjacent a soil penetrating disk. The liner member has an exterior surface having a high lubricity which minimizes the build up of wet soil on the exterior surface. The entire liner member may be formed of low-friction polyethylene and it may be configured to conform to the face of the gauge wheel rims used by the manufacturers of planter, grain drills, and other soil working implements.

  • Patent number: 5092255
Abstract: A flexible seed boot extension fabricated from an ultra-high molecular polyethylene sheet and releasably held in position by a slot and retaining lug so that seed bounce and soil coverage variations are reduced while desired seed flow from the boot to the furrow is unrestricted. The length of the extension is sufficient to prevent seed from bouncing out of the furrow and yet short enough that normal press wheel operation remains unimpeded. The extension, which is constantly in contact with the soil, and is flexible and smooth to easily ride over objects and resist breakage soil build-up.

  • Patent number: 4998488
Abstract: Apparatus in an agricultural combination machine for simultaneously inserting and positioning in the earth of at least two components, e.g. seed and fertilizer, primarily a combination machine for direct sowing on a field without previous soil cultivation of the ground by ploughing, harrowing or the like, and including a means cutting the earth, e.g. a disc coulter, a knife coulter or the like, and at least two tubular discharge means, one for each component, the cutting means and discharging means extending down into the earth under the earth surface. The means for cutting (2) and means for discharge (5, 6) are removably attached to a coulter arm (1) and to each other to be allowed displacement upwards and downwards such that they are mutually relatively adjustable in depth to given working depths under the earth surface.

  • Patent number: 4986200
Abstract: A depth gauge wheel removably secureable to a coulter disc to control the cutting depth of the disc, the wheel formed of a high density plastic to which soil and other debris will not adhere.

  • Patent number: 4947770
Abstract: A parallel linkage arrangement for supporting a coulter disc and liquid fertilizer applicator on an agricultural tool bar such that the coulter disc and the fertilizer applicator maintain the same relative relationship to the ground regardless of vertical travel of the coulter disc or the applicator.

  • Patent number: 4942833
Abstract: A process for treatment of turf by applying a turf treating material in a stream within a narrow slit formed in the turf below the turf growth zone. The slit is made to extend downwardly through the exposed leafy mat in a growth zone and at least part way through the thatch zone situated between the growth zone and a root/soil zone. The slit is formed by a coulter disk rolled in a forward direction of travel with a cutting edge aligned in relation to the forward path to minimize slit. A knife follows the disk to hold the slit open. Turf treating material is placed into the slit directly behind the knife. A skid is used, with the disk extending through slots formed therein to ride over the turf and prevent disruption of the leafy growth, thatch, roots and soil as the slit is being formed. The turf is allowed to close over the placed material thereby capturing the material at a selected depth for maximum effectiveness and to prevent runoff or evaporation of the material.

  • Patent number: 4932340
Abstract: Soil-treating materials are placed in the soil in a desired relation to the seed by placement apparatus that preferably follows the seed-depositing mechanism on a planter and deposits the material a selected distance to one side and below the deposited seed. The apparatus includes a disc assembly including a generally vertical disc and an upright mounting shaft together with a feed tube affixed to the mounting shaft. A mounting bracket that mounts to the planter frame slidably receives the mounting shaft and provide for vertical and angular adjustment of the disc assembly and its ready removal from or attachment to the planter.
