Patent number: 11882821Abstract: Method and apparatus for eradicating insects in both a below ground and above ground environment. The device includes a main shaft having a bore therein and a two-piece clamshell on one end for insertion into the insect bed and on the other end a main body which includes a hand grip and a lever for releasing the gas which is held in a separate gas cylinder. The gas flows through a gas tube from the gas cylinder through the main shaft and then out the clamshell end of the main shaft into an insect bed. Two inert gases are used to displace the air in the insect colony wherein the two inert gases are argon and helium. The argon gas is used for underground applications and the helium gas is used for above ground and underground above grade applications. The two-piece clamshell is used for insertion into the ground where it is opened thereby allowing the gas to escape from the gas tube contained inside the clamshell.Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 2023Date of Patent: January 30, 2024Inventor: Carroll Lee Norton

Patent number: 7395768Abstract: A tool for injecting solid fertilizer spikes into soil for tree and plant root nutrition utilizing elongated brackets to reduce the step-up height, form a fertilizer load chamber and to provide for a spring fertilizer spike retention mechanism such that the tool is fully operable in an upright position wherein a fertilizer spike is left embedded in the ground and detached from the tool without the need to remove the tool from the ground in a manner where, with one process of downward movement of the foot bar, two functions occur simultaneously, namely; the full injection of the fertilizer spike into the soil concurrent with the full release of the fertilizer spike from the tool by the complete ejection of the fertilizer spike from the fertilizer spike load chamber and the spring fertilizer spike retention mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 2007Date of Patent: July 8, 2008Inventor: George Berend Freeman Blake

Patent number: 6827153Abstract: A garden tool with a non-slip handle grip, designed for immediate and not difficult removal of deep-rooted plants such as Thistle and Dock weeds. The body of the tool is of rigid and strong construction, with angled cutting faces and includes a plant/soil containment chamber. The tools angular cutting faces and profile, are designed to produce efficient insertion and soil compression when downward thrust is applied, which therefore holds captive the plant root in the containment chamber, hence achieving successful plant removal from the ground when the tool is withdrawn. The slotted front of the containment chamber allows for unwanted plant and soil removal from the tool. Optional hand and foot cross-members added, to produce more forceful insertion into and easier withdrawal from the ground, and to create a convenient standing operating stance, when using the tool.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2002Date of Patent: December 7, 2004Inventor: Robert Edward Constable

Patent number: 5492070Abstract: The method of planting potted nursery plants includes providing a planting tool having a punch head corresponding to the shape of the potted plant to be planted and then inserting the punch head into the ground and displacing soil for forming a cavity having the shape of the punch head and potting soil of the potted plant. The potted plant is then inserted into the sized hole in the ground without the need of any filling soil around the plant. The planting tool includes a cross member having a handle extending from an upwardly extending arm and the punch head extending from the downwardly extending arm. A step member extends through oppositely extending horizontal arms and telescopically holds a measuring member. T shaped holders are provided on the handle for holding punch heads of different sizes and shapes.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1993Date of Patent: February 20, 1996Inventor: Allan Lefkow

Patent number: 5438940Abstract: A manual plant setting device that enables a gardener to set plants into the ground from a standing position without the need to bend or stoop, having a base plate with a short spud extending downwardly therefrom to be pressed into the soil to form a hole to receive the root ball of a plant to be set in the ground, an elongate plant guide, connected at one end to the base plate offset from the spud and extending upwardly from the base plate, in which a plant is placed and allowed to slide smoothly down the plant guide to the hole prepared to receive the root ball, and a handle interconnected to the opposite end of the plant guide for holding and manipulating the device. In the method of the invention the spud is pressed into the soil to form a hole, a plant is placed in the plant guide and allowed to slide smoothly down the plant guide and into the prepared hole, and the spud is used to place and lightly tamp soil around the root ball of the plant.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1993Date of Patent: August 8, 1995Inventor: William L. Patent number: 5052314Abstract: A planting tool for plants comprises a tube having a fixed beak half at its lower end. A hinged beak is hinged to the tube such that the fixed and hinged beak halves together form a beak capable of being pressed into the ground. The beak is then opened to make a hole in the ground for the plant, and is latched in the open position by the drawbar of a latching mechanism. The drawbar is attached to the hinged beak half and arranged to slide along an outside surface of the tube as the beak is opened and closed. The drawbar slides within a protective rail that is affixed to the outside of the tube to avoid being damaged or obstructed. The upper end of the drawbar extends above a reference edge of the rail when the beak is closed, and extends below that edge when the beak is open, thereby providing a visual indication of the condition of the beak. A handle for lifting and aiming the tube is adjustably attached to the rail to be adjustable to the height of the operator.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1990Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Assignee: Sandvik ABInventor: Arvo Leini

Patent number: 4556114Abstract: The soil sampler device has a cylindrical tubular shaped body member, one end portion of which is formed into a soil receiving section comprised of a pair of transversely opposite semicylindrically shaped half members one of which is integral with the body member and the other of which is cut from the body member for movable support thereon into and out of a cylinder forming relation with the integral or stationary half member. The movable member is guided into the cylinder forming relation with the stationary member on ground insertion of the device and such relation is maintained by the pressure applied on a footrest projected laterally from the movable member. An inlet opening of reduced diameter for the soil receiving section provides for a friction free travel of the soil sample material throughout the length of such section, with the sample being removed for testing by merely being dropped from the stationary member when the movable member is out of the cylinder forming relation.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1983Date of Patent: December 3, 1985Inventor: Michael C.
