  • Patent number: 8015934
Abstract: A thread cutting device of a sewing machine is provided. The thread cutting device cuts a thread extending between a horizontal shuttle and a throat plate of the sewing machine. The thread cutting device includes a fixed blade, a first thread catcher, a second thread catcher, a driving assembly which moves the first and second thread catchers such that the first thread catcher catches the thread before the second thread catcher catches the thread and pulls the thread toward the fixed blade to cut the thread, and a guide member disposed between the first thread catcher and the driving assembly. The guide member guides the first thread catcher from an advanced position to a thread catching position to catch the thread, and further guides the first thread catcher from the thread catching position to a standby position to turn the first thread catcher toward the fixed blade.

  • Patent number: 7503270
Abstract: A bobbin system for use with a sewing machine is disclosed. The system includes a bobbin and a thread wound around the bobbin. The system also includes an anti-unwinding member arranged around the thread to ensure that the thread does not dislodge and unwind off of the bobbin thus reducing or eliminating entanglements and jamming of the moving parts of the sewing machine.

  • Patent number: 7069868
Abstract: A shuttle unit of the type comprising a discoid shuttle body provided with two conical portions, one front and one rear, disposed specularly with respect to the median plane of said shuttle body passing through the race of the shuttle body, and a shuttle driver guided in rotation to make the shuttle body oscillate. The front and rear portions define a containing cavity for the bobbin case and the thread bobbin. The front conical portion forms a base angle with the median plane of the shuttle body comprised between 43° and 49°.

  • Patent number: 6347597
Abstract: A flat sewing device without bobbins is provided that includes an oblong case, a plurality of gears, shuttle casing, a shuttle, and a large spool of sewing thread. The gears are connected with one another to rotate the shuttle. A pinion rotated by a driving spindle rotatably engages a driving gear. The driving gear rotatably drives a second pinion mounted on a hollow driving axial rod. The hollow driving axial rod is coupled to the shuttle and the sewing thread passes through the hollow driving axial rod.

  • Patent number: 6343558
Abstract: An apparatus for high speed attachment of a cord to a piece of receiving material is characterized by one or more pins which engage the cord, pierce the receiving material and draw the cord through the receiving material from the first side to a second side thereof so that open loops are formed in the cord on the second side of the receiving material. The pins may be implemented as a push pin and a spreader pin pair movably mounted relative to each other and each of which is adapted to grasp the cord and penetrate the receiving material. The loop(s) are formed as the push pin and spreader pin move relative to each other. The apparatus further comprises a floating shuttle, not attached to the frame of the apparatus but supported by a series of gear assemblies. The pins move relative to the shuttle in a single direction causing the shuttle to engage an end portion of the cord, drawing the cord through the open loops so as to complete the lacing stitch of the cord through the receiving material.

  • Patent number: 6112684
Abstract: A revolving shuttle for double-stitch sewing machines having an improved thread-holding capacity without a substantial increase in the volume of the bobbin case, and allowing an easy removal of the bobbin case. The novel shuttle comprises a bobbin case which can be removed from the shuttle by a magnet. The fact that the bobbin consists in part of a ferromagnetic material guarantees safe removal of the bobbin case and the bobbin. This allows the conventional mechanical removal mechanism arranged on the end face of the bobbin case to be omitted, and provides the possibility either to use a larger bobbin with unchanged volume of the bobbin case, or to reduce the volume of the bobbin case for a normal bobbin.

  • Patent number: 4643112
Abstract: One limb of each loop which is formed by the needle thread in an oscillating hook type sewing machine is temporarily in contact with the loop-engaging member of a braking device whose torsion spring is non-rotatably installed in the hollow mandrel of the hook. The loop-engaging member is turned by successive loops from a starting position, relative to the hook and against the opposition of the spring so that it tensions the loop while the latter is raised by the takeup lever. The spring thereupon rapidly returns the loop-engaging member to its starting position. The loop-engaging member is integral with a loop catcher which intercepts the loop when the latter is cast off the hook and which ensures that the loop comes in contact with the loop-engaging member.

  • Patent number: 4590878
Abstract: A new stitch type and a method of and an apparatus for making same in which the loop is passed through the fabric through one hole and is returned through another hole and then is passed around a thread supply eye so that the body of the loop engages a single strand of the thread which twists around this loop and is drawn into the second hole. Such pairs of holes are spaced along the seam so that on one side of the fabric the stitches are spaced apart, i.e. the thread is alternately visible and invisible whereas on the opposite side the thread is continuously visible.

  • Patent number: 4470360
Abstract: A quilting machine employs bobbin holders which support bobbins each having a conical lower portion ending in a point. A plurality of hooks are driven in an eliptical path to engage and pull down a loop of thread formed by insertion of a needle through a needle plate and the partial withdrawal thereof. The hooks keep the loop open and pull it down so that it passes over the pointed lower end of the bobbin. In order to facilitate engagement of the loop over the bobbin, the bobbins are maintained in sloped fashion. A thread take-up mechanism pulls up the loop of thread with one of the strands of the loop passing behind the bobbin between the bobbin and the bobbin holder to form a lock stitch.

  • Patent number: 3957004
Abstract: A hand-held single-thread lockstitch sewing machine or stitcher for attaching buttons, snaps, bar tacks, or the like, employs a boat-type shuttle for capturing the loop thrown by the needle. A limited length of bottom thread is stored by manually positioning a lever which directs the loop over a finger-like projection in the shuttle to trap the loop. Repositioning the lever will allow the machine to sew normally with the loop passing around the shuttle and picking up the stored thread. Bottom tension is applied by magnetically attracting the shuttle to the carrier wall and passing the bottom thread between the shuttle and the carrier wall.
