Abstract: A method of reinforcing a seam on a body involves folding a seam allowance into a series of accordion folds to form a series of parallel reinforcement layers. The parallel reinforcement layers are of similar size and form a ridge. A ridge cap of flexible material is placed over the ridge. The ridge cap provides at least one further parallel reinforcement layer. The method involves securing the ridge cap and parallel reinforcement layers together with rows of stitching, with the stitching extending through all of the parallel reinforcement layers.
Abstract: A vehicle seat including: a seat pad including: a first surface portion; a second surface portion; and a peripheral edge portion forming a boundary between the first and second surface portions, and a seat cover including: a first cover portion; a second cover portion; and a sewn portion in which a first seam allowance of the first cover portion and a second seam allowance of the second cover portion are overlapped in a state of being turned back inwardly and are sewn together, the sewn portion being arranged along the peripheral edge portion, and a portion of the sewn portion arranged along the peripheral edge portion is formed of the first seam allowance and the second seam allowance which is shorter than the first seam allowance, and the first seam allowance is tilted toward in a manner of facing either the first surface portion or the second surface portion.
Abstract: A graphic for application to a textile is disclosed. The graphic includes a front surface configured to be viewable when the graphic is applied to the textile. The graphic further includes a back surface opposite the front surface and configured to contact the textile. The graphic further includes an attachment mechanism, other than stitching, that attaches the graphic to the textile. The graphic also includes a simulated stitching pattern “etched” onto the front surface of the graphic extending around a perimeter of the graphic and includes projections simulating stitch ends.
Abstract: A durable, attractive, lined garment, such as a blazer, that can be repeatedly washed in an aqueous solution containing laundering agents is constructed of a washable outer fabric, such as polyester, a polyester/natural fiber blend or corduroy, and a synthetic liner, such as polyester. A seam between the washable fabric and liner fabric is constructed by first sandwiching the washable fabric between the liner and a flexible tape made from a non-woven fabric having an adhesive on each side. The three materials are joined along a common edge with an overlock stitch, and also joined with a tacking stitch spaced a short distance apart from the overlock stitch. The adhesive is then employed to further join the washable fabric to the tape. Another type of seam additionally includes a wiggin between the tape and the washable fabric, wherein the adhesive adheres the tape to the wiggin.
Abstract: A tubular lining for lining passages is formed, such liner being constructed from a laminate comprising a resin absorbent layer and an impermeable skin. The laminate is wrapped to tubular form with the skin outermost and the free edges are butted together and are connected in this condition by a sewing operation. A sealing ribbon as applied over the sewing to seal the seam and stitching to prevent the flow of liquid or synthetic resin through the seam when the lining is used.
Abstract: A method of sewing a blindstitch hem is disclosed in which the plain hem fold in a garment is introduced wrong side up to a sewing machine of the type having a loop taker moving on a vertical axis located in front of the stitching point and with a thread carrying needle and a latch needle arranged side-by-side laterally of the line of feed of the sewing machine. Sewing machine fittings are disclosed which serve particularly advantageously in producing the blindstitch hem of this invention, including a throat plate fitted with a thread manipulating device for assisting in the concatenation of thread from the thread carrying needle of the latch needle on each stitch, and a latch needle which is easily manufacturable and serves with particular effectiveness in carrying out the method of this invention.
