Having Separate Adjustment Means For Batten Patents (Class 114/102.25)
  • Patent number: 10625841
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a passive, automatic wing-control mechanism for sailing vessels. A cam is attached to one end of a rotatable mast as part of a rotatable wing, and a tensioner is configured to exert a constant force perpendicularly against the cam. When a wing is in a no-go sailing angle with respect to an apparent wind, the cam does not exert a torque on the mast. When the wing is outside the no-go sailing angle, the cam exerts a counter-torque to a torque caused by the apparent wind acting on the rotatable wing, causing the wing to remain at a predetermined angle with respect to the apparent wind.

Abstract: Disclosed are luff extrusions that solve problems of batten chafing and friction locking. The inventive luff extrusions provide batten end receptacles with channels for headboard cars. The luff extrusions absorb the wind-generated compressive forces exerted by the battens on the batten pockets and eliminate the need for sail slides.

Abstract: A three-dimensional sail apparatus that is made up of a plurality of spacedly disposed foils and a sail cloth for attachment to the foils on opposite sides thereof. Each foil has opposed sail cloth supporting sides that together define a foil shape, A support is disposed between the sides for controlling the relative positioning between the sides of the foil, with each rail adapted to deflect under wind force against its related sail cloth so that the foil can assume opposite respective asymmetric foil shapes.

Abstract: In a battened sailboard sail a sail-widget is attached to the leading edge of the sail and the sail-widget is connected to a camber-inducer by a line that is acted on by a batten to evenly distribute the batten tension load between the sail and camber-inducer. The batten is able to move chordwise relative the camber inducer when the sail is rotating about the mast.

  • Patent number: 6588353
Abstract: The invention is a rigid supporting member that changes position within a pocket of sheet material to accommodate a deployed position and a stowed position, as may be used, for example, with battens in roller furling sails. The member is placed within the pocket formed within sheets of a pliable material, or attached to the pliable material, and the member is movably secured within the pocket, such as with a pivoting fixture. The member may be rotated into a first position that supports a shape of the pliable material when the pliable material is deployed, and a second position that accommodates stowage of the pliable material through folding, rolling, or the like. A variety of control systems may be used to control rotation or other movement of the member, and to control deployment and stowage of the pliable material.

  • Patent number: 6196149
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement (1) an arrangement for a sail (2) enabling to form to be varied and comprising battens (4—4) extending between the fore-leech (9) and the after-leech (10). According to the invention, the form of the battens (4—4) is so arranged as to vary depending on the wind and the desired form of the sail. This can be done as the sail is divided and built of several with between the segment is located as battens effecting connectable devices which are elastic across the connection device's length extension.
