Berths Patents (Class 114/192)
  • Patent number: 10040517
Abstract: This invention relates to a locking gimbal (10). More specifically, the invention relates to a locking gimbal (10) for automatically locking a gimballed object against motion arising from an external force (FE) applied thereto; and automatically releasing the gimballed object on removal of the external force (FE). The locking gimbal (10) includes a first object (12) pivotable about a first pivot axis (PF), a second object (14) movable along an arc cantered substantially at a second axis, a locking member (16) and a locking formation (18). The first object (12) defines a first reference axis (ARF) passing through the first pivot axis (PF) and a center of gravity (CGF) of the first object (12), whereas the second object (14) defines a second reference axis (ARS) passing through the second axis and a center of gravity (CGS) of the second object (14).

  • Patent number: 8528260
Abstract: The invention comprises a structure having at least two separate air chambers (7) enclosed by flexible, flat material (8) and having flexible bars (9) in the interior thereof for stabilizing an external shape of the air chambers (7). The structure is characterized in that the air chambers (7) form a wall structure (4) in the inflated state. By means of such a wall structure (4)—preferably in conjunction with a corresponding ceiling structure (16)—lightweight berths (1), particularly for aircraft crew, flight passengers, or transported injured persons, can be set up quickly and simply.

  • Patent number: 7389959
Abstract: A modular overhead privacy system for a mobile platform, in one form, includes a plurality of independent privacy modules located longitudinally spaced apart, above a passenger cabin, in an overhead crown area of the mobile platform. The system additionally includes a plurality of private access stairways providing access to the privacy modules from the passenger cabin. Each private module is accessible by an independent one of the private access stairways. Each privacy module includes at least one berth that provides a passenger or crew member a private reposing space separate from the passenger cabin. In one embodiment the privacy modules are longitudinally spaced apart in accordance with a seat pitch of a plurality of rows of seats in the passenger cabin. In another embodiment the seats are positioned adjacent one another behind a stairway leading the overhead privacy module. The system can be employed in either a passenger cabin area or a crew member area of a mobile platform.

  • Patent number: 6848654
Abstract: A mobile platform crew rest system includes a mobile platform having a plurality of frames and a longitudinal centerline. A plurality of bunk modules each have longitudinal module walls joined to a closed end wall. Each bunk module is individually supported by the frames. The bunk modules are configured in at least one of a first group of athwartship oriented modules and a second group of fore-aft oriented modules. A passageway is supported from the bunk modules. The passageway includes at least one segment and a passageway centerline longitudinally offset from the mobile platform longitudinal centerline.

  • Patent number: 4713851
Abstract: A suspension system for a bed or bunk which is to rest on a substantially horizontally oriented deck and is particularly adapted for the sleeper compartments of large truck cabs and which substantially reduce the amplitude of vibrations and other disruptive movements of the truck. The system includes a lower support frame which is adapted to be on the deck. An upper support frame for supporting a mattress is positioned above the lower support frame. The two frames are interconnected by at least two torsion spring members wherein the upper support frame is free to move up and down relative to the lower support frame under the influence of the spring action of the torsion spring members. The spring action dampens the transmission of up and down movements from the truck to the upper support frame and the mattress positioned thereon.

  • Patent number: 4144601
Abstract: The air ride sleeper of the present invention supports a mattress or cushion. The sleeper provides cushioned movement in both a vertical and horizontal front-to-rear direction, so that the effects of bumps, vibrations, and rapid acceleration or deceleration on the person lying or sitting on the cushion are minimized. In preferred embodiments, the vertical cushioning is provided by first and second air cushions while the horizontal cushioning is provided by first and second spring-loaded slides, which slide over first and second rails and are connected to the frame by first and second variable vertical supports.
