  • Patent number: 11692804
Abstract: A system and method for measuring an inside diameter of a pipe to determine if it exceeds a predetermined value using a plurality of fingers operatively connected to a spring. When in a fully extended position, the distance between opposite fingers is the predetermined value. The fingers are pivotable between a starting position, through the fully extended position, and to a failing position. In the starting position, an outer end of each finger engages an inside surface of the pipe to compress the spring. If the diameter exceeds the predetermined value as the system moves through the pipe, the pipe inside surface will no longer engage the fingers, which releases the spring causing the fingers to pivot to the failing position, where they remain until the system is removed from the pipe and manually reset.

  • Patent number: 10955575
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and apparatus for using an audible signal to monitor conditions at a downhole location in a well through use of a well cable containing a fiber optic, which may be either a slickline or a wireline fiber-optic cable, and providing an audible signal which varies in response to the monitored condition. The condition monitored can be strain in the fiber optic well cable, which can be sensed in one or more locations in the fiber optic well cable, in many examples through use of a sensor such as a Bragg grating associated with or formed in an optical fiber within the well cable. In some examples, a temperature measurement may be used to compensate for temperature effects impacting the strain measurement.

  • Patent number: 6282495
Abstract: A navigation system includes a driver presence sensor and engine running detection circuitry. When the detection circuitry determines that the engine of the vehicle is not running, the navigation system enters a low power mode. When the presence of the driver is detected, the navigation system begins power up, switching from a low power to a full power operational mode. If the detection circuitry does not determine that the engine is running within a predetermined time period, the navigation system reenters the low power mode. The detection circuitry monitors the vehicle's electrical system and determines that the engine is running when an AC content exceeds a predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 5178091
Abstract: This invention relates to a novel means for detecting a low level of liquid in a reservoir. One application for the invention is to provide a way to indicate when the level of windshield washer fluid for a vehicle is at a low level. According to one of its broad aspects, the windshield washer fluid noticeable changes color on the windshield, when it is running low in the reservoir; for example, changing from very light blue to an intense red. There are known electrical and mechanical means for indicating the level of a fluid in a reservoir. However, these indicators of fluid level rely on special equipment such as floats and electrical contacts. An advantage of the present invention, is that it can be used with existing windshield washer reservoirs without the need for additional equipment and/or gauges in the interior of the vehicle.
