Abstract: A bulk material storage bin has an upright wall supporting a plurality of vertically spaced indicators providing a person with visual information regarding the level of the bulk material in the bin. The indicators have bright color and dark color surfaces that are selectively displayed to provide a person with information of the level of bulk material in the bin. An actuator located in the bin cooperates with a motion transmission apparatus to move visual members to an ON position displaying the bright color when the bulk material engages the actuator and to an OFF position displaying the dark color when the actuator is free of bulk material. The motion transmission apparatus includes a rod movably retained on an O-ring held on a mount device secured to the side wall of the bin. A yoke supporting an endless flexible member mounted on the rod is connected to the visual members whereby movement of the rod moves the visual members between the ON and OFF positions.

  • Patent number: 5809828
Abstract: An airflow test device designed to be used in a clothes dryer. The device includes a retainer which is mounted to an outlet grate of the dryer drum. A vent card is removably supported a predetermined distance from the outlet grate by a support finger extending from the retainer. The vent card is supported in such a manner that a predetermined rate of airflow through the outlet grate during dryer operation moves the vent card toward the outlet grate. Movement of the vent card toward the outlet grate and off the support finger during clothes dryer operation signals that an adequate rate of airflow is passing through the outlet grate.

  • Patent number: 5785048
Abstract: A balance mechanism incorporates the housing of an aerosol delivery device which accepts and supports a cylindrical medicament cartridge. An unstable balance mechanism produces a definitive toggling action between mechanical states at the specified depletion level at which reliable dosage metering is no longer assured. In one embodiment, a fulcrum structure is formed in one side of an inhaler housing that causes the housing and the cartridge to pivot or rotate about an axis to indicate the depletion of the useful mass of the contents of the cartridge. In this embodiment, the rotation of the housing and cylindrical container is about the pivot axis located at the apex of the fulcrum formed in the housing when the housing is supported on a horizontal surface.

  • Patent number: 5605176
Abstract: A valve position indicator for on/off valves includes a card having red and green sectors journalled in a housing, and gravity biased to remain stationary during rotation of the housing about a non-vertical axis. A cover of the housing overlies the card and includes a window through which either the red or green sector is visible. The device may be mounted within a recess of the handle of an on/off valve to indicate correct and incorrect positioning of the valve. The valve is in the correct position when the green sector appears on the window and is incorrectly positioned when the red sector appears in the window. A locking tab projects from the housing and is received within one of two detents of the valve handle to align the window with either the red or green sector, respectively, when the handle is moved to the open position and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 5603282
Abstract: A utility pipe displacement sensor comprises a protective housing and an indicator stick disposed in a vertical position within the housing. The indicator stick is capable of displacement within the housing and is maintained in its vertical position within the housing by the use of centralizing discs or nails. The sensor is arranged in such a manner that the lower ends of both the housing and the indicator stick are in communication with the outer surface of a buried utility pipe. Due to this arrangement, any displacement of the utility pipe is translated into a visually perceptible displacement of the indicator stick within the housing. Thus, any displacement of the utility pipe can be determined by determining the position of the indicator stick with respect to the housing.

  • Patent number: 5479150
Abstract: A bridge failure alarm system designed to be used with bridges has a plurality of spans across the length of the bridge, activates an alarm whenever the distance between any two adjacent spans is greater than a predetermined safe distance. This is accomplished by providing a conduction path extending from one end of the bridge along a first side of the bridge to the other end of the bridge and then back to the first end of the bridge by a conduction path located on the other side of the bridge. Between every expansion joint located between each adjacent span of the bridge are two jumpers to provide electrical connection across the expansion joints, one jumper located on each side of the bridge proximate to each expansion joint. In this manner, should any one of the expansion joints exceed a predetermined width placing two adjacent spans at a distance greater than the predetermined safe distance, at least one of the jumpers located therebetween will break the conduction path causing the alarm to be activated.

  • Patent number: 5380308
Abstract: A containment vessel for liquid waste including an inlet for introducing liquid waste into the container, and a coating of a gelling substance adhered to the interior surface of the vessel by an adhesive which dissolves when contacted by the liquid waste to release the gelling substance and thereby transform the liquid waste into a non-pourable gel. A tip indicator indicates if the vessel has been tipped after the vessel has been put into service. Also, an in-service indicator indicates that the vessel has been put into service and that the tip indicator has been released. A full indicator indicates when the contents of the vessel reaches a predetermined level of fullness. A vent for venting the interior of the vessel during filling of the vessel is automatically closed off when the vessel has reached such predetermined level of fullness. The inlet to the vessel may be connected to a drain opening of an embalming table by means of an expandable tube which allows for adjustment of the height of the table.

  • Patent number: 5181536
Abstract: A fluid sensor for heat exchanger system includes a supporting device such as a tubular hose fitting for mounting the sensor in the system so that heat exchanging fluid circulated in the system comes into contact with the sensor. A window or sight glass is mounted in the supporting device along with corrodible separating means interposed between the sight glass and the heat exchanging fluid. A visual indicator such as a movable flap or a colored ball can be viewed through the sight glass when the separating means is ruptured or broken by corrosion. The viewing of the indicator provides an indication that the heat exchanging fluid has reached a certain corrosive state and requires replacement or treatment. In a preferred embodiment, the separating means is a metal diaphragm spaced from the sight glass.

  • Patent number: 5105757
Abstract: A water gauge in accordance with the invention includes a base and a spherical indicator ball. The base includes a container having a side wall, a bottom wall and a post. The spherical indicator ball has a yellow initial signal hemispherical wall and a red final signal hemispherical wall connected to an axle along a circumference. The axle is supported by the side wall of the container. The yellow initial signal hemispherical wall is heavier than the red final signal hemispherical wall. The spherical indicator ball has a channel in the middle of the red final signal hemispherical wall. Initially, the post is positioned into the channel so that the yellow initial signal hemispherical wall is up and visible. The water gauge is positioned on a lawn to be watered. When watering has added a sufficient amount of water to the container to float the ball above the top of the post, the ball is rotated by gravitational force to position the heavier hemispherical wall in the water.
