Closure Operated Patents (Class 116/85)
  • Patent number: 8937535
Abstract: A greeting card having an audio message and playback device delivers a first sound recording upon opening of the greeting card and a second sound recording upon closing of the greeting card. The delivery of each sound recording may be delayed by a timing component within the audio message and playback device. Additionally, the delivery of each sound recording may be played simultaneously or in queue. Sound recordings may also be recorded by a user using a recording component that is in addition to the audio message and playback device. The audio message and playback device may also include an additional trial mode component that allows the user to test a recorded message before purchasing the greeting card and place the greeting card into a use mode that allows the user to permanently record the message.

  • Patent number: 8274385
Abstract: A security system includes a perimeter sensor configured to cause an alarm signal to be issued after a first period of time upon sensing a security breach. An interior sensor is configured to cause an alarm signal to be issued after a second period of time upon sensing a security breach. The second period of time is shorter than the first period of time. A controller is communicatively coupled to each of the perimeter sensor and the interior sensor. The controller is adapted, in response to the perimeter sensor entering into a fault condition, to reconfigure the interior sensor to cause an alarm signal to be issued after a third period of time upon sensing a security breach. The third period of time is longer than the second period of time.

  • Patent number: 7557727
Abstract: To provide alert apparatus for use with fastener equipment, fasteners, wearable and portable items (for example, clothing and bags) including fasteners. The alert apparatus having a signal source (for example, a pull tab having a bell made of soft iron) that is helpful in alerting a user that a fastener has not been closed or connected, and a modifier (for example, a pull tab provided with a magnet) that can be connected to the signal source. The signal source and modifier each being attached to part(s) (for example, slider(s) of a slide fastener) of a fastener or to the cloth surrounding an opening in clothing, opening of a bag, or the like. When the opening is closed by means of the fastener and the signal source and the signal modifier are connected to each other, the operating condition of the signal source is modified.

  • Patent number: 5293990
Abstract: A new and improved box protection apparatus includes a plurality of flexible straps for encompassing the box under tension, and a guide for receiving the straps and for orienting the straps with respect to the box. The guide includes a rectangular frame member which includes a plurality of slots for receiving the box-encompassing straps. A hinged lid is provided for covering the frame member. The frame member includes a first locking member, and the lid includes a second locking member whereby the frame member and the lid can be locked together. The frame member includes at least one handle. Buckles are provided for locking the straps under tension, and the buckles are covered by the lid when the lid is locked to the frame member. The box protection apparatus may also include an alarm assembly, connected to either the frame member or the lid, for sounding an alarm in response to unauthorized moving of the lid.

  • Patent number: 4941424
Abstract: A sonic alarm device is provided for signalling the opening of a door which is hingedly mounted adjacent the edge on a door frame for swinging movement about an upright hinge axis into and out of a closed position. The door alarm is mounted in the interior of the door. The door alarm comprises a housing for the alarm, an isolator inside of the housing, wherein the isolator supports a sonically activated device. A spring holder is mounted within the isolator, and spring is mounted on the spring holder in a position horizontal to the door. When the door is in a closed position, the spring is pushed back into the interior of the housing; the spring is designed to be released when the door is opened. A hammer actuator is contacted by the spring when the door is opened, and a hammer is struck by the hammer actuator when the door is opened. The hammer then contacts a sonically actuated device to cause the device to produce an audible sound.

  • Patent number: 4686792
Abstract: A combination storm window and security system that fits into the window frame openings of a house. The window frame is normally formed of aluminum material and it has a stationary window panel and a slidable window panel. A pair of vertical sheet metal brackets are spaced inwardly from the aluminum window frame and these metal brackets are rigidly attached to the respective vertically extending window frame side members. Spaced intermediate the metal brackets is a vertical support member having its bottom end rigidly attached to the window sill and its top end rigidly attached to the header. A pair of storm windows have elongated strip magnets attached to their outside surface that are detachably securable to the respective vertical sheet metal brackets. The vertical support member may be formed of sheet metal or a vertically oriented metal plate may be attached to its inner surface for detachably contacting the strip magnets on the outside surface of the storm window panels.

  • Patent number: 4359646
Abstract: An intrusion detecting switch is disclosed having an operator and a sensing device for sensing the detection of intrusions and to a protected area. The operator may be a magnet and the sensing device may be Hall effect switches the resistance of which will switch between high and low values in the presence and absence of the magnetic field. A mounting device may be provided for mounting the housing containing either the sensing device or the operator to its support. The mounting device is located behind the operator or sensing device such that if the housing is to be removed from its support, the sensing device or operator must be first removed which will result in an alarm.

  • Patent number: 4062314
Abstract: A signaling device for use with a closure which is movably mounted within a frame having a housing, and a vibratile member mounted on the housing. A striker pin is mounted on the housing. A biasing spring is disposed about the pin and tends to maintain the striker pin at an intermediate rest position spaced from the vibratile member. A magnet is adapted for mounting in movable relation to the housing in accordance with the movement of the closure, for magnetically holding the striker pin in a retracted striking position spaced from the vibratile member when the closure is disposed in a pre-selected position in the frame, and for releasing the striker pin to permit the striker pin to overcome the biasing force of the spring and strike the vibratile member when the closure is moved away from the pre-selected position.
