  • Patent number: 10358891
Abstract: A method for pre-pressurizing fluid control valves is provided. The fluid control valves may be part of a hydraulic fracturing tree, or may be part of a so-called zipper frac manifold. In either instance, the method uses a lubrication unit for pre-pressurizing the cavity of a valve by injecting lubricant under high pressure. The fracturing tree or zipper frac manifold is useful for conducting hydraulic fracturing operations as part of the completion of a well. Each control valve has an upper lube fitting extending to an upper lube channel which communicates with an upper pocket. Similarly, each control valve includes a lower lube fitting extending to a lower lube channel which communicates with a lower pocket. A pressurized lubricating fluid is forced into the lube fittings to pre-pressurize the control valves prior to the fracturing fluid passing through the control valves.

  • Patent number: 4895098
Abstract: A lubricant applicator has a horizontally oriented spindle on which a disk to be processed is detachably attached and rotated with the spindle. After a lubricant is sprayed on both its surfaces from nozzles disposed adjacent thereto, the disk is brought between a pair of vertically stretched tapes while rotating with the spindle. A pair of grippers sandwiching the disk applies pressure on its surfaces through the tapes to uniformly control the lubricant film thickness on the disk surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4875434
Abstract: An apparatus for coating the flat surface of a substrate with a coating material is disclosed in which only a minimum amount of coating material is required for uniformly coating the entire surface of the substrate in an efficient manner under a variety of coating conditions, even if the substrate surface takes a non-circular configuration. According to one embodiment, the flat surface of the substrate is first coated with a coating material, and the substrate thus coated is then spunned at predetermined number of revolutions per minute. According to another embodiment, the apparatus includes a support table on which the substrate is fixedly mounted. A plurality of shaping members are slidably mounted on the support table for forming with the flat non-circular-shaped surface of the substrate a flat continuously extending circular-shaped surface.

  • Patent number: 4850302
Abstract: A method for the application of chilled particles such as polytetrafluoroethylene generally marketed under the trade mark "TEFLON.revreaction., graphite, molybdenum sulfide and boron nitride to a metal surface having crevices or pores therein. With the metal heated to expand the crevices or pores and the particles chilled to contract them, the particles will be locked into the pores when both the metal and the particles come to equilibrium temperature with the particles thereby expanding and the pores contracting. The method is directed to such an application of chilled particles to expanded pores in large metal objects such as for example, large rolls. The large object is rotated on its linear axis while maintained at the desired temperature and the particles are given an electrostatic charge and chilled prior to their application to the metal surface.

Abstract: Apparatus and procedure for applying a paint or like coating to an elongated strip article using a coating head having an open-sided slot to which coating material is supplied under pressure, and a support such as a roll around which the strip is advanced past the head for receiving from the slot a layer of paint metered between the head and the strip, wherein a load is continuously exerted on the head during operation for urging the head against the applied paint layer on the strip so as to maintain a uniform metering gap between the head and the coated strip surface. The load may be exerted by devices such as air cylinders acting on the head and capable of adjustment to vary the magnitude of the load for different coating operations.

  • Patent number: 4587139
Abstract: A rigid magnetic disk substrate is spin coated using a closely confining, stationary air barrier adjacent the surface being coated. The coating is applied through a slotted opening in the air barrier which is progressively closed as the coating is applied and completely sealed during the spin-off operation. During the application of the coating, the air barrier is positioned approximately 0.15 inch from the disk substrate surface and prior to spin-off, the barrier is moved to a position 0.025 inch from the coated surface. Further, during the high speed spin-off cycle a high kinematic viscosity gas, such as helium, is introduced into the space between the barrier and the coated surface to establish a laminar flow condition and eliminate spoking of the coated material.

  • Patent number: 4372796
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a substantially void-free tape wrapping around a pipe having a longitudinal weld bead protruding from the surface thereof. While the pipe is simultaneously advanced and rotated, liquid viscous sealing material is applied to the pipe, and the applied sealing material is then doctored by means of at least one doctor blade. The doctor blade faces the advancing pipe surface, with the axis of the doctor blade at an angle of about 10.degree. to 50.degree. to the axis of the pipe, and is urged against the pipe so that it is resiliently deformed by the pipe and accommodates passage of the weld bead underneath it. In this way the doctor blade doctors the sealing material so that it provides a smooth transition between the weld bead and the adjacent pipe surfaces. The tape is then spirally wrapped around the pipe. The invention is particularly useful when a heated sealing material, eg.
