    Abstract: The invention relates to apparatuses for treating the outside surface of cylindrical articles, and can be used for applying liquid substances to the surface of such articles. The apparatus for applying a coating additionally comprises a roller rotation actuator, a carriage and at least two arcuate brackets movably joined to the carriage. The rollers are designed to be capable of bending easily in any direction and have high torsional stiffness and low bending stiffness. One end of each roller is rotatably fastened to the carriage and is connected by means of a spindle to the rotation actuator. The other end of each roller is rotatably fastened to the free end of an arcuate bracket. The brackets are mounted on the carriage with a distance therebetween sufficient to accommodate the cross-section of the article to be treated. The brackets are capable of rotating towards one another in a mutually perpendicular manner and of enclosing the cross-section of the cylindrical article in a semi-circular manner.

    Abstract: An elastomeric stamp is used to deposit material on a non-planar substrate. A vacuum mold is used to deform the elastomeric stamp and pressure is applied to transfer material from the stamp to the substrate. By decreasing the vacuum applied by the vacuum mold, the elasticity of the stamp may be used to apply this pressure. Pressure also may be applied by applying a force to the substrate and/or the stamp. The use of an elastomeric stamp allows for patterned layers to be deposited on a non-planar substrate with reduced chance of damage to the patterned layer.

    Abstract: An apparatus for enabling the uniform application of a layer of a coating composition to a tubular substrate includes a shaft, and upper and lower circular rim members of equal diameter that are concentrically attached to the shaft. A pneumatically inflatable tube disposed on each circular rim member has an outer diameter that is variable with changes in its internal pressure. A first flexible cylindrical sheet in contact with the inflatable tubes has parallel edges that form a first slit sufficiently wide to permit movement of the first sheet in response to pressure variation in the tubes. A second flexible cylindrical sheet surrounding the first cylindrical sheet has parallel edges that form a second slit sufficiently wide to permit movement of the second sheet also in response to pressure variation. The second slit is laterally displaced from the first slit, and the second cylindrical sheet has a diameter nearly equal to the specified diameter of the substrate.

    Abstract: A drywall mud applicator, designed to quickly and easily apply a first layer of mud or mastic material to a joint in preparation for applying drywall tape thereto. The applicator includes a main housing comprising two side plates pivotally connected to an intermediate member. During use, the side plates are centrally aligned over a joint located between adjacent drywall panels so that each side plate is positioned against the adjoining drywall surface. The intermediate member is longitudinally aligned over the longitudinal axis of the joint. Attached to each side plate is a guide member that slides laterally over the side plate's front surface to control the width of the mud applied to the joint. A guide plate locking mechanism is provided for selectively locking the guide members in a desired position on the two side plates. A bellows is connected to the intermediate member and is used to evenly distribute mud to port openings formed on the two side plates.

    Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for fabricating an internally coated pipeline for transporting corrosive and/or erosive materials in which the pipe sections are joined by welding. The pipe sections are first internally pre-coated to the exclusion of a length at each end that is affected by the heat of welding the sections together. After the weld has been made between adjacent pipe sections, an expansible and retractable mold is positioned in the area of the weld joint to define an injection cavity between the pre-coating ends. A spreading device, when pulled through "straight" conduit sections, meters and applies lubricant in longitudinally extending spaced strips of uniform thickness around the inner circumference of the conduit. Upon approaching a curvature or bend in the conduit, pulling tension force vectors transmitted to the spreading device in the radial direction tilt the spreading device to non-concentric alignment in the conduit, causing the spreader to disproportionately apply increased quantities of lubricant to that surface of the conduit having a shorter bend radius, where such lubricant is most needed to reduce frictional sidewall forces applied to the pulled cables.

One of the members is a flanged sleeve forming the casing of the cartridge, in which is coaxially disposed the separable member forming a tubular support member or carrier for a mass of resilient and absorbent lubricant impregnated porous material compressibly packed between the inner surface of the sleeve casing and the carrier. A cable pulling strand, or fishtape, is passed through the tubular carrier, and the cables to be pulled through the conduit are attached to the end of the fishtape. A plug inserted in the open end of the tubular carrier prevents the fishtape and the cables attached thereto from being pulled back through the carrier.
