Reciprocating Or Oscillating Applicator Patents (Class 118/241)
  • Patent number: 4179325
Abstract: Apparatus and method for the manufacture of adhesive covers in which cover material is conveyed through an apparatus wherein a hot melt adhesive is applied to selected portions of the cover material, a release agent is applied to the adhesive and the adhesive on the cover material is cooled. The apparatus includes a novel hot melt adhesive applicator which is adapted to break the string of adhesive stretching from the hot melt bead on the cover to the applicator nozzle. One embodiment of the unit involves an in-line arrangement in which individual covers are processed. Another embodiment involves an in-line arrangement in which web of cover material flows continuously through various operations and is then cut at the end into individual covers. Another embodiment involves an in-line arrangement in which a web of transparent cover material is incorporated in the process and combined with a web of cover material overlapping a portion of the latter.

  • Patent number: 4147126
Abstract: Method and apparatus for simultaneously coating both surfaces of a moving web by a direct-indirect gravure technique in which the transfer roll of the indirect gravure system acts as backing roll for the direct gravure roll. The transfer roll is displaceable from the coating position to an inoperative position in contact with the indirect gravure roll to ensure that coating liquid does not form a dry layer on the surface of the transfer roll when the coating operation is interrupted and to remove the web from contact with either coating roll.

  • Patent number: 4120711
Abstract: A process for sealing molded end caps to filter tubes comprises providing a holder for an end cap and a means for automatically dispensing a predetermined quantity of a hot, molten adhesive into the end cap. After the adhesive is added to the end cap, a filter cartridge is inserted into the end cap under slight pressure to embed the ends of the filter in the adhesive. Subsequent cooling of the adhesive results in an effective seal.

  • Patent number: 4033284
Abstract: An apparatus for applying an adhesive to a furniture component wherein the furniture component has a plurality of points to receive the adhesive. The adhesive-applying apparatus has a plurality of adhesive-dispensing nozzles arranged in a pattern similar to the pattern of points on the furniture component to receive the adhesive. Means are provided to move the adhesive-dispensing nozzles into registration with the furniture component so that the nozzles match up with the points to receive the adhesive and dispense the adhesive to these points.

  • Patent number: 4033283
Abstract: An apparatus for interacting with articles passing through the apparatus. A spacially separate pair of switches are placed along the direction of movement of the articles and are disposed to detect the leading and trailing edges of the article. Output from the switches is received by a control system that produces an activating signal only when the pair of switches are in dissimilar states. The activating signal is received by means that interact with the article upon receipt of the activating signal.
