  • Patent number: 8631759
Abstract: An elastomeric stamp is used to deposit material on a non-planar substrate. A vacuum mold is used to deform the elastomeric stamp and pressure is applied to transfer material from the stamp to the substrate. By decreasing the vacuum applied by the vacuum mold, the elasticity of the stamp may be used to apply this pressure. Pressure also may be applied by applying a force to the substrate and/or the stamp. The use of an elastomeric stamp allows for patterned layers to be deposited on a non-planar substrate with reduced chance of damage to the patterned layer.

The apparatus has numerous operational advantages over existing oil delivery apparatus, including providing multiple contact surfaces for longer operational life before replacement, ease in cleaning and regeneration, improved durability and reduced wear, and more compact and versatile operation.

  • Patent number: 5085169
Abstract: A method of and an apparatus for applying a paint, wherein elastic paint-coating means capable of being soaked with a paint are used. The paint-coating means are soaked with a paint and moved along the surfaces of an object to be coated with the paint while being pressed against these surfaces. The paint-coating means are mounted on the main bodies of paint-coating members, which are moved alternately to a first prescribed position where a paint-supplying means is disposed and to a second prescribed position where the object to be coated with the paint is disposed. When the paint-coating members are closed in the first prescribed position so as to hold the paint-supplying means between the paint-coating means, the paint-coating means are pushed against the paint-supplying means so that the paint may soak into the paint-coating means.

  • Patent number: 4394844
Abstract: An apparatus for applying an epoxy glue, solder paste or a similar material to the surface of a planar circuit chip, such as a silicon integrated circuit chip. Positioned just above the liquid epoxy in the bath is a fine mesh, stainless steel screen clamped at its periphery and having supported thereover a leveling paddle with a micrometer adjustment rotatable relative to the bath itself for smoothing the material over the screen surface. After this smoothing or leveling operation, the chip, usually held by a vacuum chuck, is pressed against the screen into the epoxy with the screen functioning as a resilient means enabling the chip to be withdrawn therefrom with uniform deposition of material applied to the undersurface thereof. The apparatus may also have a spongy material such as polyurethane or a sponge neoprene rubber under the screen to enhance chip removal.

  • Patent number: 4361108
Abstract: This invention provides an image-forming and image-transferring sheet comprising a base layer having a first surface and a second surface. The base layer is impregnated with a first image-forming reactant whereas each of the surfaces of the base layer has coated thereon a microporous membrane layer having a gradient in elasticity across the thickness thereof. The more elastic surface of the membrane is in contact with the base layer. The other surface of the membrane is coated with a second image-forming reactant. Upon impact by an image instrument such as a typewriter key, the membrane becomes extended to allow diffusion of the first reactant through the membrane to react with the second image-forming reactant on the surface of an adjacent sheet to form an image on the surface of the adjacent sheet. A method of preparing an image-forming and image-transferring sheet is also provided.

  • Patent number: 4336767
Abstract: An ink transfer device comprising an ink transfer surface layer which may be connected to a porous ink storage body, such as used in a printing device or apparatus, having a porous structure with continuous pores therein and 8 to 30% porosity, and a surface ruggedness of less than 20 microns and ink mobilizable and storable porous ink storage body. The structure of the ink transfer surface layer and the ink storage body are produced respectively and successively by heat compression in a mold, thermoplastic powder of less than 50 microns diameter and of a little larger than the former ones. The inventive ink transfer surface layer enables uniform and efficient transfer of ink from the device even after repeated impressions of the device.

  • Patent number: 4262623
Abstract: A plurality of fingerprints of a person are recorded by applying a solution of a first substantially colorless chemical reagent to the fingertips. Essentially invisible fingerprints are obtained by gently pressing the fingers having the solution of the first chemical reagent thereon on a suitable recording sheet. Subsequently the recording sheet is exposed to sublimed vapors of a second chemical reagent. The first and second chemical reagents are selected to react with one another to yield a highly colored substance which is formed on the surface of the recording sheet providing a visible image of the fingerprints. Ferric chloride and a 8-hydroxyquinoline are ideally suited chemical reagents for use in this invention. An apparatus of unitary construction incorporating a replaceable dispensing pad having the solution of the first chemical, is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4176778
Abstract: A general purpose soldering tool holder which will fit most electrically-heated soldering instruments. The tool holder is provided with an external apertured grill to permit the circulation of air therethrough. The outer surface is maintained cool to the touch due to the provision of a heat shield spaced from the grill. The heat shield preferably consists of a material having low-heat transfer characteristics. The soldering instrument is guided by a tip alignment flap forming part of the heat shield. The instrument rests on an intermediate ledge forming part of the tool housing and on an upper rest shaped to accommodate the handle of the soldering instrument. The housing further includes trays for holding a solder spool and a desoldering braid spool which may also be mounted on a shaft. A well is provided in the housing upon which rests a non-wicking foam pad and an outer porous wicking pad for cleaning the tip of the instrument. This will reduce evaporation and subsequent cooling by the cleaning liquid.
