Abstract: Various methods of making a reinforced membrane, devices for making the membranes, and the resulting membranes are described. The methods typically provide a reinforcing structure that includes filaments extending around the circumference of the membrane but without the filaments being part of a braided or woven structure. Some of the reinforcing structures also include longitudinal filaments. The methods and devices can be used to make a supporting structure in line with membrane formation steps, and also allow for a reinforced membrane to be produced that has a ratio of inside-to-outside diameters of 0.5 or more.

Abstract: A medium transporting apparatus is used for transporting a label web including a carrier web and labels adhered thereto. A platen roller transports the label web in a transport path. A pressure roller is disposed downstream of the separating member with respect to the transport path, and causes the carrier web to be kinked. The pressure roller urges the carrier web against the platen roller. A support member is mounted on a cover and rotatably supports the pressure roller. The cover is pivoted between an open position and a closed. Immediately after the cover has moved to the closed position, the pressure roller contacts the platen roller and then slides by a predetermined amount on the circumferential surface of the platen roller in a direction away from the separating member. Thus, the carrier web sandwiched between the pressure and platen rollers becomes taut.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for sequential processing of integrated circuits, particularly for conductively passivating a contact pad with a material which resists formation of resistive oxides. In particular, a tank is divided into three compartments, each holding a different solution: a lower compartment and two upper compartments divided by a barrier, which extends across and partway down the tank. The solutions have different densities and therefore separate into different layers. In the illustrated embodiment, integrated circuits with patterned contact pads are passed through one of the upper compartments, in which oxide is removed from the contact pads. Continuing downward into the lower compartment and laterally beneath the barrier, a protective layer is selectively formed on the insulating layer surrounding the contact pads. As the integrated circuits are moved upwardly into the second upper compartment, a conducting monomer selectively forms on the contact pads prior to any exposure to air.

The light emitter/collector assembly is driven by an actuator so that it passes across a backside surface of a wafer when supported within the chuck during wafer inspection. The wafer processing station may also include a cleaning module configured to clean the backside surface of the wafer when contaminants are discovered during wafer inspection. A computer system may be coupled to receive one or more signals from the light emitter/collector assembly that are indicative of contaminants on the backside surface of the wafer and to provide one or more control signals to the cleaning module in accordance therewith. The cleaning module may be used independently of the light emitter/collector assembly and vice-versa.
