Patent number: 5965209Abstract: In an apparatus and method for forming an applied layer of a photosensitive resin on a large glass substrate for an LCD color filter, a substrate (S) is suctioned and held by a movable holder (8) with a main surface thereof to be processed oriented downward. The movable holder (8) is at an angle of inclination (.theta.) to the horizontal and is capable of moving along a guide rail (7). An application head (H) having an upward-pointing linear slit (13) through which an application liquid is supplied is provided below a region through which the substrate (S) moves supported by the holder (8). When the substrate (S) having a constant clearance (I.sub.2) with the application head (H) is moved diagonally upward, an application liquid bead (B) is formed between the slit (13) and the downward-pointing main surface of the substrate (S), by surface tension. The application liquid bead (B) is moved gradually diagonally downward along the main surface of the substrate to form an application layer (Ra). A meniscus (L.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1997Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Assignee: Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takayasu Komatsu, Shunji Miyakawa, Kazuo Watanabe

Patent number: 5820676Abstract: An apparatus for applying precise, uniform, coatings to elongated shafts, such as golf club shafts. Shafts are held by a gripper in a downwardly hanging array. A paint head assembly is moved upwardly over each shaft in sequence to apply a paint coating to a selected portion of the shaft length. The paint head assembly includes a flexible container including a central hole, a vertically moveable edge frame and an expander for changing the area of the hole. Raising the frame forms the container into a bowl like configuration, so that paint will contact a shaft extending through, and in contact with, the hole. The assembly is moved up along the shaft to apply a layer of paint, with the hole area varied to accommodate shaft taper, steps, etc. When the desired shaft length has been painted, the frame is lowered, changing the container to a trough-like configuration with pint away from the hole region. The expander widens the hole out of contact with the shaft and the assembly is lowered to below the shaft end.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1995Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Inventor: Albrecht B. Patent number: 5738723Abstract: A system is disclosed for forming metal tubing and, more particularly, brake tubing. The system includes a mill for rolling a metal strip into a tube so that at least a portion of the strip overlaps itself. The strip is then brazed so that the overlapping portions of the strip fuse together and form the tube. Thereafter, the tube passes through a cooling tunnel which cools the tube to a temperature such that the tube can be coated with a corrosion resistant material, such as a zinc based material. An inert gas, such as argon, and/or a reducing gas, such as hydrogen, is introduced into the cooling tunnel to prevent or remove oxidation of the tubing as it passes through the cooling tunnel.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1995Date of Patent: April 14, 1998Assignee: Pilot Industries, Inc.Inventors: Larry Fleeman, Charles E. Patent number: 5733607Abstract: A method and apparatus for coating and curing fiberglass sleeving with an ultraviolet light curable acrylic includes the steps of singeing the fiberglass sleeve at a singeing station and thereafter, cooling the sleeve. The fiberglass sleeve is then coated with an ultraviolet light curable acrylic resin. Thereafter, the coated fiberglass sleeve is cured by passing it through a curing station wherein the sleeve is subjected to ultraviolet light radiation about its entire circumference. The process is speed adjustable and further, the intensity of the light emitted from the ultraviolet light source may be varied so that the system is tuned to cure fiberglass sleeves of any diameter up to approximately 1.00 inch.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1997Date of Patent: March 31, 1998Inventors: Rufus M. Patent number: 5718765Abstract: This continuous galvanizing method and apparatus passes a linear element to be galvanized, e.g., wire, rod, or tube, through a surrounding, relatively short length of conduit which is attached as a cross-tee to the end of a delivery pipe rising from a centrifugal pump submerged in a vat of molten zinc, and continuously flooded with liquid zinc to coat the linear element. The zinc flowing from the open ends of the conduit, and falling as excess from the element being coated, drops back into the vat for recirculation. The vat is covered to provide a substantially closed operating space above the pool of molten zinc to enable the coating to take place in an inert atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: February 29, 1996Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: Allied Tube & Conduit CorporationInventors: Carl H. Patent number: 4073978Abstract: A method of and apparatus for the immersion treatment of discrete lengths of galvanized conduit to inhibit the formation of "white rust" on the conduit surfaces are disclosed. The conduit is continually conveyed successively through three treatment zones comprising a cleaning bath containing a cleaning agent which removes lubricating oils, greases, dirt and the like from the conduit interior and exterior surfaces, a rinse bath and a coating bath containing a coating agent including chromate ions and a polymeric coating composition. A rotary star wheel-type conveyor is arranged in each treatment zone for transporting the conduits in spaced, substantially parallel relation to each other about an arcuate path through each bath and for inclining the conduit above the bath for a time effective to drain excess liquid from the interior and exterior conduit surfaces. Effective draining of excess liquid prior to entry to another zone minimizes contamination of the various baths and yields a high quality product.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1976Date of Patent: February 14, 1978Assignee: Southwire CompanyInventors: William B. Patent number: 4032677Abstract: A method and apparatus of forming a coating of a rubber or a synthetic resin having an even thickness on the external surface of a tubular textile jacket made of fibers woven or knitted in a tubular form, which comprises passing the tubular textile jacket through a bath of a coating liquid such as a latex solution or rubber paste or a synthetic resin, and then curing the liquid coating attached to the external surface of the jacket. The present method is characterized in that an expanding member capable of inflating the tubular jacket to almost a circular shape in its cross-section is packed into the interior space of the tubular textile jacket and maintained in a definite position with respect to the coating liquid, thereby keeping the jacket almost circular in its cross-section at least for a distance from the point where the tubular textile jacket departs from the bath of coating liquid to a point where the coating liquid attached to the external surface of the tubular jacket no longer is fluid.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1973Date of Patent: June 28, 1977Assignee: Ashimori Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Eiji Ichioka, Yurifumi Harada
