  • Patent number: 5415692
Abstract: A projecting construction apparatus for a molten-metal-discharging hole includes a rotating shaft and an impeller rotatably supported by the end of the rotating shaft. The impeller has vanes radially disposed and is open to fluid flow in a generally axial direction, such that gas flowing axially toward the impeller can pass substantially axially through the impeller without being deflected against a wall of the hole, while liquid and solid material are deflected by the vanes against the wall of the hole. At least two material-supplying pipes are located around the rotating shaft, and are connected to supply projection material entrained in a fluid to the impeller, and have ejection ports generally equi-angularly disposed about the shaft axis. The ejection ports are directed toward the vanes, and a plurality of control valves are connected to respective ones of the pipes so as to control an amount of the projection material which is supplied to each of the pipes.

  • Patent number: 5097791
Abstract: The apparatus has as many invalidating units (E) arranged next to one another as there are longitudinal rows of security prints on the print carriers (P). Each invalidating unit (E) has a stand (1), a trough (3) vertically displaceable in the latter and intended for receiving ink (4), a centrifugal wheel (7) rotating continuously above the trough (3), and a shutter (11) which interacts with an orifice (10) of a cowl (9) covering the centrifugal wheel (7). By means of a controlled actuating member (6), the trough (3) is adjustable between a raised working position, in which the centrifugal wheel (7) dips into the ink and the shutter (11) exposes the orifice (10), and a lowered position of rest, in which the centrifugal wheel (7) does not dip into the ink and the orifice (10) is covered by the shutter (11).

  • Patent number: 4891244
Abstract: A method of making locking threaded fasteners having on the threaded surfaces thereof locking patch material formed by the accumulation of fused thermoplastic resin particles. The fasteners are advanced through a heating zone followed by an application zone. The fasteners are heated while in the heating zone to a temperature sufficient to fuse thermoplastic resin particles received on the threaded surfaces in the application zone. Thermoplastic resin particles are applied to the fasteners in the application zone by a mechanical propelling device which comprises a rotatable slinger that propels the particles by centrifugal force against the heated threaded surfaces. The thermoplastic resin particles build up on the threaded surfaces and fuse into locking patches. Apparatus for carrying out the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4421055
Abstract: Apparatus for treating filter material, particularly a filter tow for forming into a cigarette filter rod, includes an applicator chamber containing a rotatable brush for spraying a fluid additive such as a plasticizer towards the tow. A pressure manifold having a permeable surface adjacent the path of the tow produces an air flow which redirects towards the tow of plasticizer not captured initially by the tow. Air supplied to the manifold passes through an air ionization region, to reduce static electricity in the chamber. Air is withdrawn from the chamber by a pump to prevent a pressure build-up which could cause loss of uncaptured plasticizer. A separator is provided for collecting any plasticizer entrained with the extracted air and for returning it to a supply tank.

  • Patent number: 4381730
Abstract: The application of fluid additive to a moving filter tow for production of filter rod for cigarettes, is controlled by a system which provides monitoring of rate of application of the additive by weight. Fluid additive, such as plasticizer, is pumped from a measuring cylinder to an applicator booth, excess additive draining back to the cylinder. Pressure in the cylinder is monitored by a transducer and a control circuit is provided to compare the rate of loss of additive from the cylinder (as measured by change in pressure) with a required value and adjust the supply pump by way of a motor and gearbox accordingly. Fluid additive is periodically supplied to the cylinder from a flask and reservoir.

  • Patent number: 4332281
Abstract: A method and apparatus for spreading a foamable composition for forming a polyurethane foam. The foamable composition is uniformly spread on all of a surface which is moved by scattering the foamable composition uniformly in its transversal direction. The foamable composition is fed to spread on a first surface and then, the foamable composition is scattered from the first surface as fine particles to the second surface. For example, the foamable composition (10) is fed to spread on a pair of rotated spreading rolls and then, the foamable composition is scattered as fine particles by a pair of rotated scattering rolls (3), (4) which are respectively contacted with the spreading rolls. This can be used for preparing a polyurethane foam sheet or a laminated product having a polyurethane foam layer.

  • Patent number: 4317425
Abstract: A filter rod making machine wherein a continuous tow of fibrous filter material is flattened to form a foraminous layer prior to advancement through an impregnating station where a rotating brush sprays particles of atomized plasticizer against the underside of the layer. The brush is installed in the trough-shaped lower portion of a receptacle which flares upwardly and outwardly toward the underside of the layer and the bristles of the brush sweep along the internal surface of the lower portion of the receptacle. The lower portion receives a continuous stream of liquid plasticizer from the outlet of a variable-delivery pump whose intake receives plasticizer at a constant pressure. The brush is driven by an electric motor independently of the system which transports the layer of filter material.

  • Patent number: 4132189
Abstract: A filter rod making machine wherein a continuous tow of fibrous filter material is flattened to form a foraminous layer prior to passage through an impregnating station where an atomizing nozzle or a revolving brush sprays particles of atomized plasticizer against one side of the layer. An intercepting plate is placed in contact with the layer opposite the nozzle or brush so that the particles which penetrate across the layer and reach the plate are entrained by successive increments of the layer to thus insure that each unit length of the layer contains the same quantity of plasticizer. The rate of delivery of plasticizer to the brush or nozzle is changed in automatic response to changes in forward speed of the layer.

  • Patent number: 4078725
Abstract: A hand-operated liquid spray apparatus operates on the air-lift pump principle wherein the air-forcing member and the spray-forming member are one and the same. Such an apparatus requires no nozzles or valves and no permanent pressurization of the sprayed liquid. A plurality of deflectable vanes are movably disposed in an open-ended chamber which communicates with the interior of a liquid container via separate air and liquid passages. The vanes, when at rest, seal both passages from the open chamber end. Operator-initiated motion of the vanes toward the air passage forces air trapped in the chamber through the air passage and into the container, thereby forcing liquid up through the liquid passage to wet the vanes in the chamber. A lip at the open end of the chamber is arranged to deflect the wetted vanes as they move past the lip. After passing the lip the deflected vanes spring back to their undeflected positions and, in so doing, throw off a spray pattern of liquid droplets.

  • Patent number: 3960108
Abstract: For coating the surfaces of various materials with a paint or like coating liquid, use is made of a spray roll typically having bristles in the form of steel wires or the like implanted in the cylindrical surface of a cylindrical core in dense, radial arrangement. A supply plate which may be of flat, elongated shape is disposed tangentially of the spray roll so as to be in substantial contact therewith at least along one of its longitudinal edges. Hence, by continuously delivering the coating liquid onto the supply plate in the form of a layer of uniform thickness while the spray roll is in rotation in a prescribed direction, the coating liquid can be sprayed onto the work which may be traveling at a constant speed in a direction at right angles to the axis of the spray roll. Several examples of the spray coating apparatus are disclosed on the basis of these fundamental concepts of the invention.
