Cable Actuated Patents (Class 119/807)
  • Patent number: 10456904
Abstract: A reacher device retrievable from a dropped surface including a jaw assembly located at its distal end and a handle assembly located at its proximal end. The handle assembly includes a trigger communicating with the jaw assembly and configured to move the jaws of the jaw assembly from their spaced apart resting mode towards each other. A retrieval pivot member is attached to the handle and includes at least one fulcrum surface configured to contact the dropped surface. The fulcrum surface contacts the dropped surface on both sides of the handle assembly to stabilize the handle assembly against side-to-side movement, and is configured to pivot the distal end of the dropped reacher device upwardly to a position where it can be grasped by a user upon depression of the handle assembly toward the dropped surface.

  • Patent number: 9096298
Abstract: A rescue pole includes a clamping mechanism secured to a pole. In one aspect the rescue pole has a hollow body with exterior sections connected by sidewalls. A pair of opposed curved arms extend from the hollow body and pivot to close and separate from each other. A pulley is mounted on the body between the curved arms opposite the pole. First and second rope members secured to a drive mechanism operate the curved arms. Pulling one rope moves apart the exterior attached arms. Pulling another rope moves the arms toward each other.

  • Patent number: 6079141
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved restraining device for more effectively gripping and handling objects and which is composed of a line or similar limber material which is formed by this device into a slidable loop about that target. The invention is composed of a generally cylindrical elongated tubular shaft and a pair of complementary arcuate jaws at the distal end which form a relatively U-shape in the open position. A releasable rope attached to a swivel snap latch is held at the distal end of the pivotal arcuate jaw. Attached to the distal end of the fixed arcuate jaw is a pair of parallel finger like appendages. In the operation mode the pivotal arcuate jaw with the swivel snap latch sandwiches between the two finger like appendages and physically holds the target. In the closing process the swivel snap latch engages the rope held between the two fingers and forms a slidable loop or a completed circle.

  • Patent number: 5960747
Abstract: An animal leg catching device for catching an animal by the leg in a safe manner without injury to the leg of the animal. The animal leg catching device includes a pole and first and second U-shaped members. The free end of a first arm portion of the first U-shaped member is inserted into a distal end of the pole. A first arm portion of the second U-shaped member is rotatably coupled to a second arm portion of the first U-shaped member at a point on the first arm portion of the second U-shaped member adjacent the cross portion of the second U-shaped member. The ends of a resiliently elastic strap are coupled to the first arm portion of the first U-shaped member such that the elastic strap forms a generally U-shaped loop. One end of a flexible cable is coupled to the elastic strap at the loop of the elastic strap.

  • Patent number: 5893799
Abstract: The invention is directed to a take-down and control device intended to be used by police officers when violent subjects need to be controlled before being arrested. The device consists of an elongated rod which slides in a tube. The rod at one of its ends has a hook that can be hooked around a subject's leg while the tube on its end that is close to the hook on the rod has an upstanding and curved plate having a general plane which is 90.degree. offset from the plane of the hook. After the hook is hooked around a subject's leg, the tube will be slid down on the rod until the curved plate engages the subject's leg at a point on the leg which is opposite of the point on the leg where the hook has been engaged. A ratchet mechanism on the tube keeps the tube and rod in a locked position. A T-handle on the other end of the rod allows the officer to twist the device in various directions until the subject loses his balance and is thereby taken down and can be controlled.

  • Patent number: 5460373
Abstract: A restraint for grasping limbs and appendages includes an elongated pole having a generally U-shaped pair of arms extending from the forward end thereof. A pair of jaws are pivotally secured to the end portions of the U-shaped arms and are pivotally movable between opened and closed positions. A ratchet mechanism is operative upon each of the pivotable jaws to permit inward movement of the jaws with substantial ease while preventing outward pivotal movement of the jaws. A pair of flexible bands are coupled in a criss-cross attachment between the outer ends of each pivotal jaw and the oppositely positioned U-shaped portion arms. The intersecting point of the criss-crossing flexible bands supports an encircling annular ring. As the restraint is thrust against a target limb or appendage positioned between the U-shaped portions and pivotal jaws, the flexible bands curve about the target appendage drawing the pivotal jaws inwardly in an enclosing pivotal motion which is permitted by the ratchet mechanism.
