  • Patent number: 8518496
Abstract: The erosion-prone sections of the tubes in a circulating fluidized bed boiler are provided with a locally thickened sidewall without forming discontinuities on the outer surface of the tubes. This can be accomplished, for example, by replacing the erosion prone portion of the tube with a section having a smaller inside diameter, but the same outside diameter, or by replacing the erosion prone portion of the tube with a section having a thicker sidewall, but the same inside diameter, and smoothing over the outside discontinuity with an alloy coating. A useful alloy coating is also disclosed which can be used for this and other applications.

  • Patent number: 7770394
Abstract: A remote power supply system associated with offshore hydrocarbon production and transportation operations includes an expansion turbine that generates power for the system. The remote power supply system also has a support structure that supports the expansion turbine. A cooling section is supported by the support structure, and is in fluid communication with the expansion turbine to receive the vapor therefrom and to condense it to liquid. A downcomer and boiler section is in fluid communication with the cooling section to receive the liquid condensed from the vapor. An ignition assembly is positioned toward a lower end portion of the downcomer and boiler section. The ignition assembly ignites a fuel and air mixture and causes the liquid received by the downcomer and boiler section from the cooling section to boil into vapor. A return passage conveys vapor from the downcomer and boiler section to the inlet of the expansion turbine.

  • Publication number: 20030037736
Abstract: A thermal processing plant has heating tubes which are arranged in an undulating line in an oven chamber. Burners which generate a gas stream directed against the opposite wall of the oven are positioned at each of the “wave crests” and in each of the “wave troughs.” The thermal radiation of the oven wall and of the reaction zone (combustion heat) heats the heating tubes uniformly.

  • Patent number: 5596953
Abstract: Disclosed is a gas boiler which has a simple structure, which is easy to be installed, and which is manufactured at a low cost. The typical water tank is partitioned into an upper casing and a lower casing which are capable of communicated with each other. A circulation pump and a three-way valve are mounted to the lower casing in a row in the vertical direction, and a plurality of pipelines are arranged by using the above perpendicular arrangement as a reference. The circulation pump is coupled to the lower casing and the three-way valve is coupled to the circulation pump. Therefore, the size of the gas boiler is minimized and the manufacturing cost thereof is economized.

  • Patent number: 4433644
Abstract: Two types of boilers for generating high pressure steam from gaseous effluents containing abrasive and corrosive solids are provided. Both types of boilers are vertical boilers of the fire-tube type with the gas flowing within the boiler tubes and with the water and steam surrounding the boiler tubes. In one type of boiler according to this invention, the solids-containing gas is downfed through the boiler tubes with the gas emerging from the tubes and impinging on a concave, conical deflector and a convex nose cone located below the deflector. The deflector and nose cone serve to disengage solids from the gas.In the other type of boiler according to the invention, the solids-containing gas first impinges on a baffle plate which serves to disengage solids from the gas. The solids flow down for removal, while the gas flows up the boiler tubes to generate steam.

  • Patent number: 4389980
Abstract: A boiler has a chamber to contain a charge of wood that rests on the bottom of the chamber with the major portion of the charge within a water jacketed upper portion of the chamber but free to settle as combustion progresses. Combustion is confined to the bottom portion of the chamber due to the cooling effect of the water jacket and to a turbulent cross draft in the combustion zone. A special venturi section in the flue coupled with a pressure blower both induces the flow of hot gases from the combustion zone through a second chamber and a heat exchanger and also provides a stream of air from the venturi section to create the cross draft. An oil burner may be used in conjunction with the second chamber as an alternate heat source. The boiler also has a special base construction and assembly features.
