  • Patent number: 4953511
Abstract: A condensing heating module for heating a fluid and adapted for use with a radiant infrared burner. The heat exchanger within the module is spirally disposed about a central burner cavity and has a fluid flow passage of serpentine shape formed within its wall. The upper and lower surfaces of the module, together with the spiral wall of the heat exchanger, form a spiral condensing flue leading from the central burner cavity to an external flue. Those portions of the spiral heat exchanger wall and the module upper and lower surfaces which are exposed to direct radiation from the burner are formed of a corrosion resistant steel, while the remainder of the surfaces and wall are formed of carbon steel to which has been laminated a layer of polypropylene such that the polypropylene layer will be exposed to the flue gas and condensate environment and provide corrosion protection to the carbon steel.

  • Patent number: 4677939
Abstract: The apparatus for heating a fluid comprises a heating enclosure supplied in its lower part with fluid to be heated, a combustion chamber comprising a burner at one of its ends and extending on the side opposite the burner inside the enclosure, a fume circulation tube disposed inside the enclosure to constitute a contra-flow heat exchanger, which tube is hermetically connected to the outlet of the combustion chamber and opens out in a fume evacuation device located in the lower part of the enclosure in order to evacuate the fumes to outside the heating apparatus, and means for taking heated fluid in the upper part of the enclosure. The heat exchanger tube is constituted by an originally flexible, tight, ringed metal tube, disposed spirally substantially in the lower third of the enclosure, and so that the different turns of the ringed tube are tangentially in contact with one another in order to form a compact exchanger.

  • Patent number: 4655174
Abstract: A hot fluid generator is disclosed for exchanging heat between a first fluid having a first temperature and a second fluid having a second temperature. The generator includes at least two spaced parallel metal sheets spirally wound with spaced turns about a vertical central axis and joined at their top and bottom edges to define a hollow spiral wall. Upper and lower closure members arranged normal to the central axis are connected with opposite ends of the spiral wall to define a first spiral passage between successive spaced turns through which a first fluid is circulated and a second spiral passage between the spaced sheets through which a second fluid is circulated, and a central combustion chamber. A burner is centrally arranged within the combustion chamber to heat the chamber and the first fluid so that as the first and second fluids are circulated, heat is exchanged between the first and second fluids.

  • Patent number: 4425875
Abstract: A combustion chamber and liner for use in a wound boiler formed from a heat exchanger slab rolled into a plurality of wound heat exchanger convolutions, the inner heat exchanger convolutions defining a space in which a sized and shaped elongated hollow cylindrical member defining the fire box is removably mounted and in assembled position forms an inner annular combustion gas flow passage disposed to communicate with an outer combustion gas flow passage, the cylindrical member has means to position and orient the cylindrical member in assembled position so that a top inlet in the wall of the cylindrical member in association with an aligning and guide member will pass combustion gases from the fire box into the inner combustion gas flow passage, in a direction counter to the flow of combustion in the fire box, and the outer combustion gas flow passage is disposed to communicate with a suitable flue or discharge outlet to pass residual combustion gases to waste.

  • Patent number: 4203392
Abstract: A heat exchanger in which a fluid maintenance tank has a spiral coil for heating the fluid therein. A source of heat is applied to the upper end of the spiral coil and the heat is caused to course through the spiral coil to the other end thereof during which heat is being exchanged to the medium to be heated. The uppermost portion of the tank is thereby heated first. A blower means is connected in operative relationship with the lower end of the spiral tubing to draw the heat and products of combustion through the tubing and to exhaust same. The heat exchanger may be a hot air furnace, a hot water heater or a fluid superheater with a reserve compartment.
