  • Patent number: 6662759
Abstract: A temporary cover is plugged into an open handhole or inspection port in a steam generator or another pressure vessel of a nuclear power plant after bolted covers are removed for maintenance inside the generator or vessel. The temporary cover may be locked to prevent foreign objects from entering the generator or vessel. The cover is vented at inclined angles so that air or gas may pass therethrough but is shielded so that gamma rays, which are the most penetrating type of radiation, are greatly reduced and dispersed away from personnel.

  • Publication number: 20020189554
Abstract: A sight glass assembly for a water heater flame trap and a method of making same is disclosed. A rectangular-shaped sight glass frame casing being comprised of a thin metal plate further comprising a rounded rectangular cut-out window and two metal tabs on opposite sides of the casing acting as a retainer to hold the planar transparent material of the sight window tight to the rectangular-shaped gasket. The metal frame casing of the sight glass assembly attaches to the exterior of the flame trap compartment of the hot water heater by: (a) either inserting the tabs, further comprising metal clips, into the gasket whereby they expand, locking the metal frame casing in place; or in a second embodiment (b) riveting the tabs, now in the shape of a flange, directly to the hot water heater shell. The metal frame casing is formed by a metal stamping procedure that allows for easier and more economic manufacture of the sight glass retainer.

  • Patent number: 6276307
Abstract: A boiler apparatus is provided with a forwardly-opening hinged door. To open the door, the top of the door is moved away from the housing and toward the technician. One or more hinges may be located at the bottom of the door. Since the door does not open sideways, the apparatus requires reduced side-to-side floor space. The door may be used to obtain access to heat transfer surfaces. The door is preferably constructed to minimize the floor space occupied by and required to service the apparatus. The apparatus may include a stand for supporting the boiler at an elevated location for inspection and maintenance. A water tank may be located underneath the boiler.

  • Patent number: 5803021
Abstract: Apparatus for selectively permitting access to the interior of a boiler and selectively closing off access to the interior of the boiler which includes a frame, a support plate, and a hinge. The hinge couples the support plate and the frame and allows pivotal movement of the support plate with respect to the frame. The apparatus also includes a door plate; and apparatus for coupling the support plate to the door plate. In some forms of the invention the apparatus for coupling comprises a plurality of studs fixed to one of the plates in generally parallel spaced relationship. The other of the plates may include a plurality of holes disposed in generally registered relationship to the studs and dimensioned for loose fitting engagement with the studs. The apparatus may also include apparatus for latching the support plate to the frame to prevent pivotal movement thereof with respect to the frame. The apparatus may also include apparatus for urging the door plate away from the support plate toward the frame.
