Reciprocating Valve Patents (Class 123/188.4)
  • Publication number: 20030221652
Abstract: An internal combustion engine having one or more power pistons reciprocating in one or more cylinders has at least one fuel inlet valve of the piston type at each cylinder. An inlet valve sleeve has an open end at the top of the cylinder and has fuel inlet ports situated away from the cylinder. A valve piston in the sleeve is movable towards the cylinder and away from the cylinder by an actuator system to open and close the valve. The actuator system varies timing and duration of the open periods of the valve to control engine power output thereby eliminating any need for a throttle valve and its attendant power losses. Valve piston movement also varies the effective compression ratio in the engine cylinder as a function of power output thereby further increasing fuel efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20030217725
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a variable spring force intake valve for use in two- or four-stroke internal combustion engines. The device comprises an intake valve body and a torsion spring attached to a gear and rod assembly. Manipulation, via manual or automated means, of the gear and rod assembly adjusts the tension/torsion force exerted by the torsion spring to preload the intake valve and/or to hold the intake valve in the closed position. Varying the tension/torsion force results in an ability to control the timing and the degree to which the ports of the intake valve are actually opened during the operating cycle of the piston, thereby providing a user with an opportunity to enhance the operation of a two- or four-stroke internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 6622684
Abstract: An intake and exhaust system for an internal combustion engine having a unitary engine block the system comprising a power cylinder, an intake lifter cylinder and an exhaust lifter cylinder that are formed integral with the engine block. This engine block has an intake port, and an exhaust port for allowing exhaust to flow there through. Inside the piston or power cylinder is a power piston which is driven by a crank shaft connected by connecting rod which extends through the power cylinder. This crank shaft is driven by a movement of the power piston which is caused by combustion of gasses inside the engine block. There is also a cam shaft which disposed within the engine block. This cam shaft is found on a top section of the engine block. Coupled to the cam shaft is a timing chain which is also coupled to said crank shaft. Thus, as the crank shaft rotates, it drives the timing chain which in turn rotates said cam shaft.

  • Patent number: 6526932
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a combination intake and exhaust valve assembly. The combination intake and exhaust valve assembly includes an intake valve and an exhaust valve which are disposed in a coaxial relationship. The intake valve has an annular rim portion which is movable into and out of engagement with an intake valve seat. The exhaust valve has a head end portion with an annular rim which is movable into and out of engagement with a valve seat disposed on the intake valve. When the intake valve is operated from a closed position to an open position, the intake and exhaust valves move together. A pair of rocker arms may be used to move the intake valve from its closed position to its open position. A single rocker arm may be used to move the exhaust valve from its closed position to its open position.

  • Patent number: 6443121
Abstract: An engine comprises a housing that defines a hollow piston cavity that is separated from a gas passage by a valve seat. The housing further defines a biasing hydraulic cavity and a control hydraulic cavity. A gas valve member is also included in the engine and is movable relative to the valve seat between an open position at which the hollow piston cavity is open to the gas passage and a closed position in which the hollow piston cavity is blocked from the gas passage. The gas valve member includes a ring mounted on a valve piece and a retainer positioned between the ring and the valve piece. A closing hydraulic surface is included on the gas valve member and is exposed to liquid pressure in the biasing hydraulic cavity.

  • Patent number: 6382146
Abstract: An engine employing magnetically actuated valves. The engine includes a combustion chamber, a port, an electromagnet, a valve, a biasing spring, and a valve guide. The valve is operably positioned in relation to the combustion chamber to allow fuel into the chamber and is actuated by a magnetic field to move within the valve guide. The engine also includes a fuel dispensing system including a tube having an aperture. The valve moves between a first and second position, alternating between obstructing and not obstructing the aperture, thereby blocking and allowing fuel flow throw the aperture.

  • Patent number: 6349691
Abstract: An automatically actuated, pressure responsive air intake valve for an internal combustion engine generally a fixed valve seat housing and a sliding valve member. The valve seat housing is threaded into the head of a working chamber on an internal combustion engine. The sliding valve member reciprocates through the housing in response to differential pressures on either side of the valve. The sliding member has a hollow chamber that opens in a sidewall of the valve seat housing, thereby directing a stream of air outward from the valve structure. By providing multiple valves in the head of the cylinder, a swirling effect may be accomplished to better distribute the fuel/air mixture and enhance cooling of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6295731
Abstract: In a valve head of a poppet valve used in an internal combustion engine, a lobe is formed. The lobe has a vertical section of an isosceles triangle which has a vertex in the middle. By pressing the lobe in a bore of a die, the lobe is plastically deformed, so that a valve face is formed at a position which contacts a valve seat. Suitable airtightness is obtained between the valve face and the valve seat.
