    Abstract: The invention comprises a cylinder block wherein vertical reciprocation of a piston is transmitted to a connecting rod that rotates a crank shaft to generate torque. A cylinder head is joined to the top of the cylinder block, whereof one side is connected to a primary intake and exhaust manifold which is opened and shut by a primary intake and exhaust valve and the other side is connected to a secondary intake and exhaust manifold which is opened and shut by a secondary intake and exhaust valve. A primary cam shaft drives the primary intake and exhaust valve. A secondary cam shaft drives the secondary intake and exhaust valve. A tertiary cam shaft is placed on the upper side of the cylinder head and rotates to interlock with the rotation of the secondary cam shaft. Therefore, intake and exhaust performance of a four-stroke internal combustion engine is improved.

    Abstract: The horizontally opposed center fired engine improves on the traditional design of the horizontally opposed engines and center fired engines with a better engine geometry. The present invention utilizes four pairs of opposing pistons to compress a larger volume of air-fuel mixture within four different cylinders. The four different cylinders are radially positioned around a center axle in order to achieve a perfectly symmetric engine geometry. The center axle consists of two different shafts spinning in two different directions, which could drastically reduce engine vibrations in the present invention. Engine vibrations are caused by a change in engine speed and result in a loss of energy. Due to the design, the present invention will only experience energy loss in the form of entropy and friction. Thus, the present invention can convert a higher percentage of chemical energy into mechanical energy than any other internal combustion engine.

    Abstract: Valve assembly and method in which a valve member is connected to an elongated lever arm for controlling communication between two chambers in an internal combustion engine. The valve assembly is disposed at least partially within one of the chambers, and the valve member is moved between open and closed by an actuator connected to the lever arm. In some disclosed embodiments, a pilot valve is opened to equalize pressure on both sides of the valve member prior to moving the valve member toward the open position. In others, where a piston in an expansion cylinder is driven by hot, expanding gases from a separate combustion chamber, the exhaust valve is closed before the piston has completed its exhaust stroke, and pressure is allowed to build up in the expansion cylinder to a level corresponding to the pressure in the combustion chamber before the valve member is moved toward the open position.

    Abstract: An exhaust valve arrangement for use in a combustion chamber of a compression ignition internal combustion engine, includes a piston which is movable outwardly from the combustion chamber in response to pressure generated within the combustion chamber as a result of combustion, and an outer sleeve within which the piston is movable. The outer sleeve is an exhaust valve which is actuable between open and closed positions to open and close, respectively, an exhaust passage from the combustion chamber. The exhaust valve arrangement further includes a pump chamber for receiving fluid, and a pumping plunger coupled to the piston and movable with the piston so as to pressurise fluid (e.g. fuel) within the pump chamber as the piston is urged outwardly from the combustion chamber. The pressure within the pump chamber is proportional to cylinder pressure and is sensed by a sensor which provides an output signal to an Engine Control Unit (ECU 16).
