Patent number: 6866036Abstract: A cooking heat absorber comprising a radiator assembly for absorbing heat radiated from a cooking surface and from a flue riser, on commercial surface cooking equipment and a tank assembly for holding a fluid and circulating the fluid through the radiator assembly to cool the radiator assembly and warm the fluid. The cooled radiator assembly reduces the amount of radiant heat dispersed from the surface cooking equipment and maintains a more comfortable temperature in a commercial kitchen. The tank assembly includes conduits to supply the warmed fluid, which may be water, to a water heater for reducing the energy requirements of the water heater. The tank assembly circulates a stored quantity of fluid through the radiator assembly, where the fluid is warmed, independent of any use of water from the water heater.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2003Date of Patent: March 15, 2005Inventor: Eugene Albert Jacobs

Patent number: 5657686Abstract: The invention describes a method and apparatus for controlling the temperature of the floor of a cooking oven by utilizing a recirculating primary heat transfer fluid made to flow through a heat exchanger located in an oven floor. After traveling through the oven floor and absorbing heat, the primary fluid travels to an external liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger wherein the primary fluid transfers heat to a secondary circulating heat transfer fluid. The primary fluid is then recirculated through the oven floor to maintain the floor at a predetermined temperature. The heated secondary fluid may then be utilized for other processes such as in the conveyor belt washing tank of the oven, or it may be discarded. The primary heat transfer fluid may be a thermal oil having a boiling point substantially in excess of 212.degree. F., and having other properties designed to prevent the corrosion, plugging, and fouling of the heat exchanger located in the oven floor. The second fluid is preferably water.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1994Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: Stein, Inc.Inventors: Ramesh M. Gunawardena, Ronald D. Lemke

Patent number: 4438755Abstract: A solid fuel burning stove having a hot water heating means. A water containing chamber open at the top for communication with room air serves the dual purpose of providing a heat sink for preheating water while at the same time providing a means for humidifying the room air. Domestic water heating coils are positioned so that cold water flows first through coils located at the water containing reservoir where it is preheated and then passes into the combustion chamber where it is heated to a high temperature before flowing into a hot water tank. The stove is preferably also provided with a small baking oven.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1983Date of Patent: March 27, 1984Inventor: Daniel J. Moffett

Patent number: 4419942Abstract: A stove in which the fuel is combusted within a primary combustion zone and the products of combustion are transported into a tertiary combustion zone surrounded by a container of water. A bundle of secondary combustion tubes connect the primary and tertiary combustion zones. The tertiary combustion and separation chamber termed a posatron completes the combustion and separates a portion of the creosote and other condensable materials from the combustion gases. The combustion gases are then conducted through small pipes immersed in the water bath to cool the combustion gases and complete the condensation of water, creosote and other unburned constituents. The water and creosote mixture flows into a creosote collection chamber and the products of combustion are either recycled to the combustion chamber or exhaused to the atmosphere. Heat is removed from the system by recirculating air or by hot water circulation.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1982Date of Patent: December 13, 1983Inventor: Charles A. Johnson

Patent number: 4401098Abstract: This wood by-pass furnace is designed in such a manner, as to have the oxygen for combustion controlled, to the extent that the wood does not blaze, but only produces red, glowing coals for heating a home, and the outside cover will not burn anyone when touched. It primarily consists of an inside fire chamber of cylindrical shape, to distribute heat to the top, and it includes a top baffle, that extends from the front of the fire chamber, to the rear of the furnace. It further includes two side baffles, to protect the sides of the heat chamber, and smoke and heat travels up and over the top of the top baffle, to the front of the stove or furnace, and passes out an eight inch pipe. The top baffle further serves to condense the black smoke into liquid, which will dry out and will burn in its dry form.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1981Date of Patent: August 30, 1983Inventors: Peter S. Patent number: 3980072Abstract: Ventilating and cooling apparatus for cooking equipment heated by gas, oil, steam or electricity that reclaims radiant heat generated by cooking equipment by heat transfer panels through which cold water is circulated and preheated for use in hot water generating system or other system which can make use of preheated water. Heat transfer panels are positioned between the back edge of the canopy and the top of the cooking equipment and on the interior face of the canopy to collect radiant heat emitted directly and indirectly from the cooking equipment surfaces. An air passage behind the back panels serves to preheat incoming ventilation make-up air which is directed down, under and up along the front of the cooking equipment forming an air curtain and extracting heat from the body of the cooking equipment that is otherwise radiated to cooler bodies in close proximity to the heating surface.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1975Date of Patent: September 14, 1976Inventor: Eugene A.
