Abstract: A safety barrier heat exchanger for a heating appliance such as a fireplace or furnace is provided. The safety barrier heat exchanger includes a housing configured for attachment across the viewable opening of a fireplace or a barrier window of a furnace, and a plurality of optically transparent, semi-transparent or translucent safety barriers secured within the housing in spaced apart relationship to define a tortuous or serpentine passageway through which a forced bulk flow of ambient air is passed across a viewable opening or barrier window more than one time. Also provided are fireplace systems comprising the safety barrier heat exchanger.
Abstract: A heat directing device for a gas fireplace, which directs warm air into another room or rooms by joining to the home's central heating floor or wall registers. The heat directing device features an electronic damper and a single speed fan, wired in series and controlled by a wall mounted switch located near the gas fireplace. The device is constructed using an 18-gauge single wall pipe, preferably eight inches in diameter. The electronic damper is mounted internally within the wall pipe, and the single speed fan is mounted internally in line with the damper, nearer to the gas fireplace. An extension pipe links the wall pipe output to a Y-shaped member, which is installed within the floor or wall register of a room to be heated.
Abstract: A fireplace including a body, a heating unit within the body, a duct within the body and in communication with the heating unit, an opening defined by a terminal end of the duct, an insert attached to the terminal end of the duct and arranged to dispel a heated air, and wherein the insert remains at a lower temperature than the duct during a heating operation.
Abstract: A high efficiency gas fireplace unit having a heat exchanger is located in a room in which the heat from the gas fireplace is not wanted. An air duct is connected to the heat exchanger and has a termination point in a room or area remote from the gas fireplace unit. During a heat dump or heat transfer mode of operation, an induced draft fan in an air duct is activated by a remote switch thrown to cause room air to be sucked through the heat exchanger and passed through the air duct and dumped in a remote area so that the fireplace heating effect is nullified or neutralized allowing the fireplace to be operated with or without an air conditioning system.

Abstract: A fireplace adapted to heat multiple heating zones of a building, controlled by a control circuit which adjusts the heat input to the fireplace, airflow through the fireplace and ducting of the airflow to the various zones individually in response to a call for heat by thermostats in the zones. The fireplace may also be adapted to provide cooled or circulated air to the zones and may also serve to provide heating to the zones in the event of an electrical power outage. The fireplace is provided with a cabinet having ducts through which air is conveyed by use of a fan to a tube-type heat exchanger, the heat exchanger also in communication with the hot flue gases exiting the combustion chamber of the fireplace. The air heated by the heat exchanger is conveyed to a multitude of fireplace outlets, each of which is provided with a damper which regulates the airflow through the outlet to one of the zones to be heated, depending on whether that zone calls for heat through its thermostat.

Abstract: An integrated combined heating and cooling unit comprises a known high efficiency gas fireplace unit stacked on top of a known high efficiency window type air conditioning unit. Novel vent adapters are connected to the rear of the units for connecting them to a source of outside combustion and cooling air to effect high efficiency operations. Novel controls comprise a fireplace relay and an air conditioning relay mounted inside of each of the units. The relays control the on-off operation of the respective units and are actuated by a thermostatic control preferably located remote from the combined units.
