  • Patent number: 11000404
Abstract: An oral appliance comprises interacting upper and lower dental encasing components formable to overlay portion of the patient's upper and lower teeth. The dental encasings each comprise sheets of a heat softenable and moldable over-mold material on substrates comprising one or more pieces of a stiffening material. The over-mold material is heated to a moderately elevated temperature which will not cause tissue damage when placed in the patient's mouth. While still warm the material can be shaped to conform the patient's teeth but is non-deformable once cooled to body temperature. The stiffening material is non-deformable when heated to the same elevated temperature.

Abstract: A dental appliance apparatus is disclosed herein. In various aspects, the dental appliance may include a body removably attachable to one or more teeth selected from premolars and molars, and a flange extending forth from lingual portions of the body to contact a tongue at one or more locations proximate the premolars and the molars in order to cause a contraction of the genioglossus that positions the tongue anteriorly and downward toward the mandible by stimulation of the hypoglossal nerve. The dental appliance may include a connector connected to the body, and the connector may pass about buccal-labial sides of the anterior teeth. A bumper may be included on a labial side of the connector, and the bumper may contact the lips to promote pursed lips breathing. An anterior flange may extend lingually from the connector to stimulate the hypoglossal nerve proximate a tip of the tongue in order to cause contraction of the genioglossus to position the tongue anteriorly and downward toward the mandible.

Abstract: A device reduces breathing obstructions of a user. A base member removably couples to the upper or lower jaw of the user. An elastic support member couples to the base member and includes at least one contact surface for contacting at least one region of tissue. The elastic support member moves between a retracted state and a deployed state. In the retracted state, the at least one contact surface spatially separates from the at least one region of tissue. In the deployed state, at least a portion of the elastic support member extends such that the at least one contact surface contacts the at least one region of tissue preventing at least partial collapse of at least a section of the upper airway.
