Abstract: A planar elongate cigarette snipping device for removing the burnt end of a partially-smoked cigarette to expose fresh tobacco for relighting the cigarette, includes a pair of planar knife blades which are moved from a rest position to an operative position in which they overlap in an aperture through the device, activated by a corresponding pair of arms which are normally biased to the rest position.
Abstract: An improved process for removing insoluble nitrogen-containing compounds from cured tobacco uses alkali or a combination of protease and nonprotease depolymerase, rather than simple protease extraction. The method of the invention is more efficient and results in a more effective extraction of protein.
Abstract: An apparatus for severing predetermined lengths from a cigarette or cigar comprises a tubular passage which receives the cigarette or cigar to be cut, and a manually actuated blade positioned transverse to the longitudinal axis of the tubular passage and receivable therewithin for cutting the cigarette or cigar. The length of the cigarette or cigar receivable within the passage and severable by the blade may be varied by selectively positioning an adjustable end wall of the tubular passage.
