Abstract: An oral hygiene device employs a hollow plastic tube sealed at both ends. At least one area along the length of the tube is weakened and has its diameter in the weakened area reduced, but not reduced to zero diameter. A length of fiber, such as conventional dental floss well known as a tooth cleaning material is stored within the length of the tube comprising the housing and has each of the free ends secured to a bulk of rigid material whose size does not permit the fibrous material from being able to escape the narrow diameter area. In use, a user bends the unbroken tubing housing to a point that the tubing breaks into at least two pieces, allowing the fibrous flossing material to be positioned intermediate the separated portions of the tubing, which are now free to act as handles. After its use, the fibrous material and the two handles may be discarded.

  • Patent number: 5125424
Abstract: The present invention concerns a device for cleaning teeth or gaps between teeth and comprises a handle to hold the device and an operative part, mounted at the end of the handle, with a filamentary or tape-shaped cleaning medium acting on the teeth and/or the teeth gaps when the device is being used. To assure intensive cleaning specially in the molar zone, the operative part is supported at the handle in a pivoting manner about an axis fixed relative to this handle and is guided by the teeth gap during cleaning. The fastening system preferably is such that the operative part is exchangeable in the handle. The operative part is a dental-floss holder comprising a bail with a segment of filamentary dental floss affixed between its free-end legs. The bail is supported at the handle about an axis essentially perpendicular to the longitudinal extent of the dental-floss filament.

Abstract: A gum stimulator is disclosed which has a removable brush composed of a high-density of soft thin fibers. The brush tip is disposed on a handle, which may comprise an end of a toothbrush, and is mounted on a shaft which extends from the handle. In one embodiment, the brush extends at an angle of about 90 degrees from the handle and includes long fibers surrounded by short fibers which penetrate the interstitial spaces between the teeth to provide complete gum stimulation without causing tissue damage.

Abstract: A dental sanitary appliance includes a toothbrush housing forming a frontal portion, a floss housing forming a middle portion of the dental sanitary appliance and a floss fastening member is insertable into the floss housing and incorporates a cover cap mountable on the rear end of the floss housing. The toothbrush housing has a toothbrush member and a chamber for accommodating a floss roll. The floss housing has a central passage in open communication with the chamber and a stopper attached to the upper wall of the rear portion of the central passage. The floss fastening member is movable in the central passage and includes a rod, a slit formed longitudinally on the top of the rod and a U-shaped frame member coupled to the rear end of the rod. The stopper can extend into the bottom of the slit when the rod is pushed longitudinally so as to terminate the outward movement of the rod.

Abstract: A toothbrush for improved dental hygiene providing a body formed with a curved bristle head joined to a substantially straight handle by an offset neck. The curved bristle head tangentially joins the neck and extends therefrom with a decreasing radius of curvature to the extremity thereof. A plurality of bristle bundles are mounted on the concave side of the bristle head and extend substantially perpendicular to a cord joining the ends of the bristle head to free ends located in a flat plane substantially parallel to such cord. A retractable toothpick is mounted in the end of the handle remote from the bristle head and is movable between a retracted position within the handle and an extended position in which it extends beyond the end of the handle.

Abstract: An endless article (10) for cleaning between teeth is disclosed as including a first segment (18) of an elastic material and also a second segment (20) of an inelastic material bonded together by their ends to form the endless article (10). The endless article (10) includes a directionally effective abrasive surface (14) and is graspable by a pair of hands. The article (10) is stretchable for proportionately reducing the cross section of the first segment (18) to position a section thereof between the teeth. A section of the article (10) is movable thereafter along its longitudinal axis (L) between the teeth for cleaning there-between.

Abstract: A reusable toothpick is mounted to a double ended bayonet mount. The bayonet mount is unoccupied at one end and has the toothpick grasped medially at the opposite end. The double ended bayonet mount is in turn received into a handle having a hollow cavity for receiving the full working length of the toothpick as it protrudes from one of the bayonet mounts. In a first position of the bayonet mount with respect to the handle, the toothpick is fitted within the handle, and the handle closed by the bayonet mount so as to provide a sanitary and safe toothpick transport. In a second and reverse position of the bayonet mount, the toothpick is mounted for manipulation from the handle and sufficient overall length of the handle is imparted to the toothpick which, in addition to the design features of the pick itself (appropriate narrowness, semi-blunted tip, semi-rigid composition, 90.degree.
