  • Patent number: 5676170
Abstract: A gastight isolation valve for solid materials is presented. The body of the valve has a lower edge which, defines, in the leaktight closed position, an air seal. The air seal is surrounded by a projecting element of the closure member which comprises, on the outer side, an outer peripheral flank having a first gradient. A peripheral sealing surface extends the outer peripheral flank. The sealing surface interacts with a sealing seat of the valve body to provide gastightness.

  • Patent number: 5657786
Abstract: A gas cabinet manifold is free of dead-legs both during delivery of process gas to a semiconductor fabrication tool location and during purging of the manifold. The manifold includes three similar dual valve assembly blocks. Each valve assembly block includes two valves and each of the valves has a valve chamber in which are formed three ports. Each valve also includes a mechanism for selectively closing one of its three ports. Each of the valves has one of its non-closeable ports connected via a conduit to a corresponding non-closeable port of the other valve, and the other non-closeable ports are connected by a second conduit which is connected by a third conduit to a port by which gas may be introduced into the valve block. A vacuum venturi or other vacuum source is used to vent process gas from a high pressure area of the manifold by way of a pressure regulator and a low pressure area of the manifold.

  • Patent number: 5645102
Abstract: A leak resistant, switching, double valve system consists of two sliding valve bodies in a valve housing with connecting lines. The two sliding valve bodies, which can be actuated independently of one another, are in contact in the closed position with valve seats in the valve housing, and are located at some distance one behind the other, forming a leak cavity between them. During the opening process, the first sliding valve body, before it leaves its valve seat, while simultaneously reducing the size of the leak cavity, can be placed in contact with the second sliding valve body, which is provided with a tubular extension which exits the valve housing in a sealed manner and connects the leak cavity to the environment of the valve system.

Abstract: Pipe lines for conducting natural gas become contaminated, over a period of time, by an accumulation of mercury, which occurs in minute amounts in natural gas. If used pipe is scrapped, for example by melting, mercury vapor escaping to the atmosphere poses a health hazard. To remove mercury, sections of pipe are closed at both ends by plugs having nipples for connection to a closed circuit and inert gas line connected with a pump for evacuating the line and with a source of inert gas, for example nitrogen. The closed circuit inert gas line contains a blower for circulating the inert gas repeatedly through the pipe sections and a condenser for condensing mercury vapor. Abstract: This invention concerns a system for insuring and accurately controlling the turbulent flow of a pressurized mixture of a gas and a cleaning fluid for purging and cleaning ducts. The pressures of cleaning fluid and the gas are continuously sensed and transduced into electrical signals for controlling valves for the pressurized gas to maintain and insure its pressure at a predetermined amount relative to the pressure of said cleaning fluid, so that when the gas and fluid are mixed in a turbulator, turbulent flow is insured. The improvements of this circuit include a pressure sensor transducer for sensing the pressure of the input of the air to the turbulator and feeding it back to the main air pressure transducer for accurately maintaining a predetermined ratio between the gas and cleaning fluid pressures within less than about 1 psi in at least pressures of 150 psi. A pressure warning signal indicates when the gas and/or cleaning fluid pressure is too low to produce effective turbulent flow.

  • Patent number: 5226973
Abstract: A plurality of liquid jet nozzles are positioned in spaced apart relation to each other about a portion of the exterior surface of a pipe to be cleaned. High pressure liquid is supplied to the nozzles to cause liquid jets to be emitted, with the liquid jets being directed toward the exterior surface of the pipe. Each nozzle can be rotated about an axis which is at least substantially normal to the exterior surface of the pipe, while the nozzles are being moved longitudinally relative to the pipe. The liquid jets from the nozzles simultaneously impinge on the exterior surface of the pipe along prescribed paths located in an annular region extending around the circumferential extent of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5211203
Abstract: A portable ground water sampling apparatus has a submersible pump or other water sampling apparatus attached through a hose to a hydraulically driven spool mounted on a boom attached to the bed of a truck or trailer. The hydraulically operated boom enables the operator to place the pump over the well and lower the pump into the well from the spool. A second spool also mounted on the boom operates a cable attached to a discrete liquid sampler or appliance of operator's choice for lowering into the well to take water samples or collect data. A decontamination apparatus is also attached to the boom and washes the hose and cable to remove contaminants therefrom. The contaminated wash fluid is removed to a holding tank for later disposal at a safe site. Hydraulically driven level-wind mechanisms are attached to each spool.

  • Patent number: 5201331
Abstract: A vapor containment apparatus for washing an ink pump and sucker tube with a volatile ink solvent has a closed receptacle with a liquid solvent sump. An elongated sleeve encases the sucker tube within the receptacle and positions an inlet end of the sucker tube in the sump. A solvent applicator directs solvent into contact with an outer surface of the sucker tube to drain into the sump and wash the outer surface. An solvent return tube delivers solvent from the ink pump to the sump such that solvent can be drawn through the sucker tube and the pump to wash the pump and the inner surface of the sucker tube. A vacuum exhaust draws solvent vapor through openings on the elongated sleeve and the return tube and evacuates the vapor from the closed receptacle.

  • Patent number: 5201338
Abstract: A water distribution system includes flushing hydrants having buried valve assemblies and a removable top stock carried from valve assembly to valve assembly. A vertical marker replaces the top stock when the hydrant is not in use. The buried valve assembly includes a valve urged closed by water pressure and an actuator rod extending through a spider in the top of a vertical barrel. A lock nut on the upper end of the actuator holds the valve closed even if water pressure is lost. The upper end of the vertical barrel includes an internally threaded adapter. The top stock includes a casing which is externally threaded to mate with the adapter and a second rod which is threaded to mate with the actuator rod. The hydrant is assembled by removing the lock nut and screwing the parts together while an operating screw is swung free, then swinging the operating screw into engagement with the second rod. A preferred embodiment permits water samples to be taken from the hydrant.

Abstract: Apparatus for cleaning paint spray gun nozzles automatically includes a housing having separate cleaning and reservoir chambers separated by a dividing wall, and a cleaning spray head in the cleaning chamber for directing a spray of cleaning fluid at a nozzle in the chamber. A supply of cleaning fluid in the reservoir is connected to the cleaning spray head by a supply tube. The cleaning chamber has an entrance for receiving a spray gun nozzle, and a supply of gas under pressure is connected to the reservoir chamber automatically on detection of entry of a spray gun nozzle through the entrance, to urge cleaning fluid from the reservoir into the supply tube. A passageway is provided in the dividing wall for returning used cleaning fluid to the reservoir. The supply of gas to the reservoir is cut off automatically at the end of a cleaning cycle on removal of the cleaned nozzle from the chamber.
