Abstract: A dishwashing appliance is provided having a spray arm assembly with one or more sliding spray arms. The spray arms can slide linearly, back and forth, along either a transverse or lateral direction of a wash chamber of the appliance. The spray arms are precluded from rotating relative to the wash chamber. A variety of mechanisms are described for providing such linear, sliding movement through the wash chamber. Improved spraying and, therefore, cleaning of articles in the dishwasher can be achieved through the sliding movement.

Abstract: A vehicle washing apparatus includes a side track extending along a washing bay. A gantry is supported for reciprocal motion along the side track by a gantry motor. Sensors detect the front and rear ends of the vehicle to control movement of the gantry. A retractable carriage extends from the gantry across the washing bay under the control of a carriage motor and a vehicle width sensor. The carriage rotatably supports a spray bar for discharging cleaning fluid. A motor rotates the spray bar to sweep around corners of the vehicle. A cam plate and engagement roller index the spray bar orientation, while limiting spray bar rotation to a single direction. A wheel guide receives the front left vehicle wheel. Treadle switches in the wheel guide, in conjunction with an illuminated display, indicate to the user when the vehicle is properly indexed in the washing bay.

  • Patent number: 6807973
Abstract: An automatic vehicle washing system is described. The vehicle washing system incorporates an elongated overhead cleaning platform for cleaning the front, top and rear surfaces of a vehicle. The overhead cleaning platform is attached to a single lift mechanism at a first end and is suspended from a belt at a second end, wherein the belt is also operatively connected to the first end. Accordingly, vertical movement of the lift actuator causes both ends of the platform to uniformly rise or descend. The platform further comprises a pivotal boom with fluid nozzles attached thereto, and a reciprocating pivotal actuator. The reciprocating pivotal actuator is capable of pivotal movement to any number of angular orientations within its operative range of motion. Advantageously, the pivotal and vertical positions of the nozzles can be independently varied, permitting the location of the overhead cleaning nozzles to be optimized for various vehicle profiles.

Abstract: A long retracting sootblower device for conducting different cleaning media types to the interior of a heat exchanger having a lance tube assembly (12), a feed tube, a carriage assembly (1), a first cleaning media supply, and a second cleaning media supply. The lance tube assembly includes a manifold (25), a hub (21) mounted to the manifold (25), a tube section (13) extending outward from the hub (21), and a nozzle assembly (18). The nozzle assembly includes nozzles (50, 52) adapted for directing a stream of cleaning media. The manifold (25) includes at least one cylindrical tube (32) with first and second ends, the first end (34) being permanently mounted to the manifold (25), and the second end (35) engaging the nozzle assembly (18). The manifold (25) and cylindrical tube (32) define a first high pressure passage for conducting cleaning media from the first cleaning media supply to the nozzle assembly (18).

Arch-shaped supports on the carriage support a gantry having spray nozzles for directing liquid toward the vehicle. The gantry is movably mounted relative to the supports such that the carriage and gantry are selectively movable to locate the spray nozzles at positions directly in front, above, and directly behind the vehicle for effective cleaning. The apparatus includes a sensor for determining vehicle length and a controller for moving the carriage and gantry to positions for effective cleaning of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6595221
Abstract: An impact reset mechanism and method that automatically resets a spray arch in a vehicle washing system to permit operation of the vehicle wash system after the spray arch has broken away from its rigid, operating position due to contact with a vehicle. The impact reset mechanism includes a bias member that exerts a bias force on a pair of mounting blocks used to support the spray arch. When the spray arch contacts the vehicle, the spray arch pivots one of the mounting blocks. The pivoting movement of the mounting block is sensed and relayed to a control unit. The control unit immediately stops the wash process and moves the spray arch away from the vehicle. The control unit automatically resets the wash process and begins washing the next vehicle without resuming manual intervention.
