  • Patent number: 4076040
Abstract: An alternator valve assembly particularly suited for below ground level use in septic systems for diverting flow from a single inlet to either of two separate outlets. The valve is comprised of a plastic housing which defines a valve chamber having an inlet, a pair of outlets, and valve plug seat means located in the housing adjacent each outlet. A rubber valve plug is adapted to be received in the valve chamber in one of the outlets to selectively block flow therethrough. The plug includes a sealing lip cooperable with the valve seat of the associated outlet and includes an elongated handle protruding outwardly of the valve housing to facilitate movement of the plug between blocking positions with each of the outlets. An outlet box defining a hollow outlet box chamber and having an exit area may be disposed in operative communication with each of the valve housing outlets.

  • Patent number: 4064902
Abstract: A curb box having a cast base housing slidably receiving a threaded pipe which is distorted to oval shape above the threaded end and a riser having a threaded upper end and outwardly-extending ears in the lower end non-rotatably received in the oval part of the threaded upper part of the threaded pipe whereby the riser pipe can be telescopically moved vertically and have a threaded cap supported on the upper end thereof.Curb boxes of the type of the present invention have notably been made with base housing and the pipe extending upwardly therefrom cast in one piece and a riser pipe slidably received in the one-piece base. Applicant has discovered that by threading the base housing and connecting a threaded pipe to it and distorting the threaded pipe to oval shape so that a vertically-extending pipe can be slidably but non-rotatably received therein, the said curb box can be made much simpler and at lower cost.

  • Patent number: 4044789
Abstract: An improved sanitary diversion valve is disclosed which provides a better seal to plastic sanitary pipe, is corrosion resistant, has an improved valve core retention mechanism, and a sealed access to prevent leakage and tampering. A resilient O-ring core retention mechanism maintains the core in close contact with the housing without being susceptible to corrosion. Plastic coupling rings are molded into the inlet and outlet ports of the housing to enable high integrity seals to be formed with plastic sanitary pipe connecting therewith. In addition, a plastic coupling ring is molded around the core shaft port in the housing to enable sealing a plastic sanitary pipe thereto as an access tube to the valve. The resulting improved sanitary diversion valve is easily fabricated, easy to install, provides a high integrity seal with plastic sanitary pipe connecting thereto, is reliable for withstanding corrosion of its moving parts during a long term of operation, and is leakage and tamper proof.

  • Patent number: 4036249
Abstract: A diverter valve, particularly adapted for use in septic systems, for controlling the flow of effluent from a septic tank to a plurality of leach beds, comprising a thick-walled valve body of cast urethane having a deep circular groove in the upper surface to receive a section of a capped pipe to afford access to the valve control from ground level, and having a centrally and vertically disposed valve chamber provided with an inlet port and a plurality of outlet ports, rigid integrally cast webs extending from the top to the bottom walls of the valve body dividing the same into separate inlet and outlet chambers communicating with the central valve chamber, oppositely disposed circular openings in the top and and bottom walls of the valve body, the walls of the openings providing bearing surfaces for a tapered valve plug of cast urethane having top and bottom circular sections and having a cut-away central section providing a passageway for alternatingly connecting the inlet port with one of the outlet ports.

  • Patent number: 4030519
Abstract: A valve cover for covering a buried valve and permitting access thereto with a two piece, rigid plastic housing having a square cross section which resists rotation in the ground. The housing is capped with a cast iron collar which fits inside the top end of the housing and has apertures in the portions engaging the housing walls through which the plastic extends to lock the collar to the housing. Adjacent the lower end of the housing are opposing apertures in the housing walls through which the pipes extend from the valve. A plurality of fingers extend outward from the housing about each aperture to form a tapering passage which will accommodate different sizes of pipes.

  • Patent number: 4015373
Abstract: A flat outer frame is provided with an edge-section for receiving a single-piece manhole cover which has three projections located at the apices of a triangle and adapted to rest on the edge-section so as to form a horizontal bearing triangle. Means are provided for locking the cover within the frame so as to prevent tilting of the cover about any one side of the bearing triangle under the action of a downwardly directed force applied to the cover externally of the triangle.
