Abstract: A liquid chromatography system includes a gradient proportioning valve in fluidic communication with sources of solvent. From the solvent sources, the gradient proportioning valve produces a low-pressure gradient stream. A first pump is in fluidic communication with the gradient proportioning valve to receive, pressurize, and move the pressurized low-pressure gradient stream to a flow-combining device. A second pump operates in parallel with the first pump and moves a pressurized solvent stream to the flow-combining device where the pressurized solvent stream combines with the low-pressure gradient stream to produce a high-pressure gradient stream. A second gradient proportioning valve can produce, from a second plurality of sources of solvent, a second low-pressure gradient stream, wherein the solvent stream moved by the second pump to the flow-combining device and combined with the other low-pressure gradient stream comprises the second low-pressure gradient stream.

Abstract: A liquid chromatography system includes a pumping system with a selector valve in fluidic communication with a pump inlet. The selector valve switches between a first position, in which the selector valve fluidically couples a solvent reservoir to the pump inlet, and a second position, in which the selector valve fluidically couples a pressurized source of liquefied carbon dioxide (for example) to the pump inlet. The liquid chromatography system can perform as a HPLC system (or as an UPLC system) when the selector valve is in the first position and as a CO2-based chromatography system when the selector valve is in the second position. The selector valve can have a third position in which both the fluidic pathway between the solvent reservoir and the pump inlet and the fluidic pathway between the pressurized source and the pump inlet are blocked. This shut-off position advantageously facilitates system maintenance.

Abstract: A pump system that includes a pump, an injector and a regulator with a calculation unit. The regulator controls the pump to pump a liquid through a hose to the injector which opens and closes in response to an injector control signal, the time for an opening and closing cycle being called injector cycle and designated Ts, and the injector's open period being designated ?. The injector has a pressure sensor to measure the pressure of the liquid in the injector and to deliver to the calculation unit a pressure sensor signal representing the pressure amplitude in the injector. The calculation unit calculates the hose's rigidity B as a function of measured pressured amplitudes A in the injector, the injector cycle Ts and the injector's open period ?, and the regulator determines the basis of B the control signal to the pump.

Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulic manifold apparatus and system, connectable to a dual stage motor, for use in the topdrive of drilling operations. The hydraulic manifold is switchable between a low speed, high torque configuration and a high speed, low torque configuration. Valves within the manifold control the flow of working fluid through the manifold and into and out of the motor. Switching means are further provided to control the opening and closing of the valves. In the low speed, high torque configuration, working fluid enters each stage of the dual motor simultaneously, in parallel. In the high speed, low torque configuration, working fluid enters a first stage of the motor, returns to the hydraulic manifold, then enters a second stage of the motor, before returning again to the hydraulic manifold. Thus during high speed, low torque operation, working fluid enters each stage of the dual motor in series.
