  • Patent number: 9482073
Abstract: A convertible valve having a conversion element retained in a seat to convert a valve gate from bidirectional flow to unidirectional flow. The convertible valve includes a valve gate moveable between a first open position and a second closed position, a seat moveable between a first position and a second position, and a conversion element retained in the seat. The seat, in its first position, maintains the valve gate in its first open position. With the valve gate in the first open position, the convertible valve allows bi-directional fluid flow. Fluid flowing through the convertible valve creates downward force on the conversion element and the seat. Upon reaching a predetermined force, the seat moves to its second position allowing the valve gate to move to its second closed position. With the valve gate in the second closed position, the convertible valve allows only unidirectional fluid flow.

  • Patent number: 9273534
Abstract: A downhole tool and system for actuation of the tool. The tool includes a sliding sleeve assembly that is urged toward an opening position due to an interior pressure in the tool. A shear pin assembly hold the tool in the closed position. As pressure is increased to above a predetermined locking set point, a locking mechanism on the sliding sleeve radial engages the housing of the tool to lock the sliding sleeve to the housing. As pressure is further increased to a predetermined an activation set point, the shear pin assembly shears, but the sliding sleeve is maintained in the closed position by the locking mechanism. Only after the interior pressure is subsequently lowered to below a predetermined opening set point will the sliding sleeve shift to an open position.

  • Patent number: 9175543
Abstract: A downhole fluid flow control system for autonomously controlling the inflow of production fluids. The fluid flow control system includes a flow control assembly having a fluid flow path through which a fluid flows. A support structure is positioned in the fluid flow path. A plug is releasably coupled to the support structure such that when fluid flow through the fluid flow path induces sufficient movement in the support structure, the movement causes release of the plug from the support structure into the fluid flow path, thereby restricting subsequent fluid flow in at least one direction through the fluid flow path.

  • Patent number: 9145758
Abstract: Apparatuses for restricting fluid flow through a conduit comprise a seat sleeve disposed in a housing, the housing being disposed in a tubular member. The seat sleeve comprises a seat and one or more ports in fluid communication with a seat sleeve bore. One or more seat bypass fluid flow channels are disposed in the housing and are initially placed in fluid communication with at least one of the seat sleeve ports. Landing a plug element on the seat blocks fluid flow through the seat, but fluid flow is permitted to flow through the seat bypass fluid flow channels, through the seat sleeve ports, and into the seat sleeve bore. Movement of the seat sleeve downward closes the seat sleeve ports. Thus, a plug element can restrict fluid flowing through an area of the apparatus that is larger than the plug element.

  • Publication number: 20110259436
Abstract: A pressure relief valve that controls pressure by two features: the combination of the diameter and tensile strength of the shear pin used and the offset placement of the valve shaft relative to the center of the pallet to which it attaches. The shaft that has ends extending through the valve body to the exterior of the valve and a breaking arm attached to each end. Each arm cooperates with a pin receiver attached to the valve body to hold opposite ends of a shear pin therebetween when the valve is closed. As pressure is applied to the pallet, the breaking arms rotate and shear the web portion of the pins at a very accurate and repeatable opening pressure, allowing the pallet to open. The pins can be replaced and the valve reset without removing the valve from service. One or more shear pins may be employed.
