Abstract: A fire-barrier comprises a composite of three types of fire-retardant materials operable sequentially to combat an increase in temperature, e.g. as occurs on outbreak of a fire, by different methods. A preferred combination of materials is an outer layer of heat reflective material, an inner layer of thermally intumescent material and an intermediate layer of endothermal material between the inner and outer layers.
Abstract: A flexible pipe comprises an inner supporting pipe (1) made from an elastic material, onto which inner supporting pipe a shaped strip (2) is wound. Said strip (2) has a cross-section profile formed by two stepwise conjugated quadrangular flanges (3) and (4), the height of each of the flanges being equal to a half of the height of the profile. The adjacent turns of the strip (2) partially overlap each other so that the upper flange (3) of one turn is superimposed onto the lower flange (4) of the other flange, and the ends of the flanges (3) and (4) are aligned. An interlayer (5) made from an elastic material is superimposed onto the power frame formed by the strip (2). At least one pair of reinforcing layers (6) and (7) formed by groups of power filaments (8) and (9) is disposed on said interlayer (5), said filaments being parallel to one another and wound in contrary at angles of from 0 to 20.degree. to the axis of the pipe.

Abstract: According to the invention a flexible drill pipe constructed of a closed pitch cylindrical spiral coil of wire rod with a floating core of tube sections constructed the same positioned end to end but not attached through the hollow center of the coil of wire rod to keep the coil of wire rod from collapsing under torsion loads required for a drilling operation. A thin wall hose is laid through the tube sections so drilling fluids can be pumped through the flexible drill pipe during a drilling operation.
Abstract: A hollow flexible tubular body which comprises at least one tubular layer. The layer is formed by adjacent helical windings having hooked edges and substantially flat sections. The turns of the helix do not show any spontaneous tendency to increase in diameter.

Abstract: Combined strengthening and corrosion protection of a ferrous metal pipeline is obtained by means of a wrap of ferrous metal strip, the strip being coated with a less noble metal, such as zinc or aluminum or a zinc alloy or an aluminum alloy, and the strip being under sufficient tension to strengthen and reinforce the pipe or to arrest fracture propagation. The less noble metal coating of the strip is electrically connected to the pipe to provide cathodic protection for the pipe. A coating of electrically insulating material may be interposed between the pipe and the wrap. An external power source may be utilized for primary cathodic protection in which case the coated strip is relied upon as a secondary or back-up system.
Abstract: In the described process for the manufacture of reinforced hoses of elastomeric material having a hollow space in their wall, said hollow space is formed by means of a structural shape helically positioned between the two assemblies of layers which constitute in their whole the wall of the hose, and during curing the hollow space is filled with a material inert to curing, which is discharged in liquid state from the hollow space after curing.
