    Abstract: A covering for exposed insulation surfaces on fluid conduits for protection from moisture and other environmental factors. The covering typically includes a central fabric layer, such as a woven high density polyethylene fabric surrounded by structures having layers of alternating metal containing foils and puncture resistant polymers. The structures may be bonded to the central fabric layer by a polymer extrusion, such as a low density polyethylene extrusion. An acceptable metal-containing foil may includes aluminum foil, and the puncture resistant polymer may be polyester. The resulting covering may be cut with a hand-held implement, such as scissors or a knife or the like, may be formed into desired shapes manually and will retain the desired shape once formed. The overall thickness of the covering typically is no greater than about 350 microns.

    Abstract: A material composition and method for making flexible inversion liners having glass fibers added for strength is disclosed. The liner combines a first layer of polyester felt, an open-faced knit of fabric from ECR glass and PET strands, glass fibers, and a second layer of polyester felt. These components are needle-punched together into essentially a single composite mat, or substrate, using standard needle-punching machinery. The liner is then formed into a tube preferably through a butt joint and prayer stitch covered with a urethane tape. A coating or foil is placed on the outside (prior to inversion) of the liner that is then impregnated with resin. For heat curing, the liner is impregnated with a thermosetting or UV-cured resin. The liner is then installed in a pipe through inversion, using either air or water and cured with UV, steam, or hot water.

    Abstract: A pipe includes an outer surface with a polyolefin-based protective coating covering a substantial portion thereof In addition, an end wrap material is disposed on the protective coating proximate to an end of the pipe, where the end wrap material is bondable to a polymer-containing protective material, such as a heat shrink sleeve or cover. The end wrap material can bond a heat shrink cover or sleeve in place over a girth-weld, thus substantially reducing the likelihood of the disbandment or movement of the sleeve from the welded pipe ends over time.

    Abstract: A duct board or duct liner comprises: an insulating layer formed from fibrous material bound with a resin binder, an outer facing layer adhered to an outer surface of the insulating layer, and a water repellant mat facing adhered to an interior surface of the insulating layer opposite the outer surface to form a duct board material. The mat facing provides sufficient water repellency to repel a mixture of about 40% isopropanol and about 60% water. The duct board or duct liner material may be formed into a tubular shape capable of conducting air, with the mat facing on the interior of the tubular shape.

    Abstract: A resin-coated steel pipe is provided having excellent mechanical strength and sliding properties. A double coated structure is formed that extends in the pipe's axial direction and has substantially the same cross section. The structure has a thin steel pipe. Attached to the outer surface thereof is a coating layer with adhesive and an alloy resin. That alloy resin is a mixture of a styrenic resin and a crystalline engineering plastic. Further, formed on the outer surface of the alloy resin in a thickness required for mechanical strength and sliding properties is a crystalline engineering plastic. The resin-coated steel pipe exhibits markedly improved adhesion of the crystalline engineering plastic to the thin steel pipe and thus is free from a fear of the exfoliation of the plastic.

    Abstract: Inversion liners are provided which in a first embodiment include first and second flexible fabric layers separated by one or more glass fiber containing layers and joined in tubular form. The second flexible fabric layer further is bonded to a third flexible fabric layer comprising a substantially fluid impermeable layer. An invertible glass-faced liner is also provided by this invention which includes a glass facing on one side and a substantially fluid impermeable layer on the other. The substantially fluid impermeable layer is joined to a flexible fabric layer which is preferably heat bonded to a thin veil joined to a second glass containing layer of this liner embodiment. The inversion liners of this invention can be built-up in multiple layers or blocks to meet end-use design demands while still providing flexural moduli in excess of 500 ksi, preferably about 700-800 ksi.

    Abstract: A high temperature pre-insulated pipe system is shown which can withstand conveyance temperatures in excess of 250° F. The pipe system includes a first and second length of insulated and jacketed pipe. Each pipe length includes an inner metal pipe having an interior surface and an exterior surface and having an envelope of foamed insulation surrounding the inner pipe exterior surface. A thermally protective coating layer is applied between the metal pipe exterior and the surrounding layer of foamed insulation. The thermally protective layer effectively lowers the interface temperature between the inner metal pipe and outer foamed layer to prevent disbondment of the outer foamed layer as the temperature of the inner pipe increases.

A process for manufacturing the tube comprises the step of extruding multiple layers of a melt-processible thermoplastic to a pretreated metal tube having an external surface with at least a zinc based coating, a sealant coating on top of the zinc based coating, and a primer coating on top of the sealant coating. The primer coating is preferably applied by an airless spray system in a closed atmosphere, wherein substantially no volatile organic compounds escape into the atmosphere. The polymeric layer(s) remain adhered to the metal tube, even when exposed for prolonged periods to aggressively corrosive environments.
