  • Patent number: 6158460
Abstract: An apparatus and method for sealing a port of a distribution head in a fuel dispensing system. A plug has a head, flange and threaded shank. The flange extends radially beneath the head and includes a seal engagement surface. A sealing member is positioned upon the seal engagement surface. The port has NPT threads formed therein for engaging with the threads of the plug. When the plug is fully engaged with respect to the port, so as to be bottomed out, a seal is formed between the plug and port while the threads of the plug and port do not achieve an interference fit, to allow for easy removal of the plug.

  • Patent number: 6003557
Abstract: A removable, expansion sealing plug has an annular seal formed of an elastic material, which seal is expanded by a fruste-conical expansion member when the expansion member is drawn into a retention member, the retention member having an outer surface with screw threads, and the expansion member being rotationally fixed, but axially movable, relative to the retention member. When installed, retention member screw threads fix the plug in position and prevent forcible expulsion from the installation hole and the expansion of the seal causes compression of the seal between the wall of the installation hole and the expansion member and frictional interference between the seal and the installation hole and between the seal and the expansion member, thereby preventing the rotation of the plug within the installation hole.

  • Patent number: 5895695
Abstract: The invention described herein pertains generally to a crosslinked plumbing tube which has at least one overmolded end (e.g. nose cone or nut) attached thereto. In one aspect of this invention, the tube is more rigid than the overmolded component while in another aspect of the invention, the tube is more flexible than the overmolded component. In either embodiment of this invention, the tube provides an all-plastic waterway for a contained liquid or gas to flow through. The degree of flexibility is controlled independently controlling the density of the tube polymer and the overmolding polymer. In one aspect of the invention, the tube and the overmolding polymer are both partially crosslinked to independent first degrees prior to the overmolding process. Subsequent to the overmolding process, the crosslinking is continued to a higher degree for both polymers.

  • Patent number: 5819805
Abstract: A new and improved casing thread protector that has a toroidal body of elastomer with a bore to accept a pipe end, thread engagement pads, and a metal band and clamp arrangement extending around its periphery. The bore accepts the end of a pipe with threads to be protected when the thread engagement pads are allowed a certain degree of movement due to the open position of the clamp, which pads subsequently grip the pipe within the bore when the clamp is closed. The pads, which are replaceable, come into contact with the tubular inserted in the bore when the clamp is in the closed position, isolating the tubular good from the body of the improved device and creating greater pressure on the contact points of the threads of the tubular good which increases the force required to dislodge the improved protector from the threads.

  • Patent number: 5524672
Abstract: A thread protector has a toroidal body of elastomer with a bore to accept a pipe end and a metal band and clamp arrangement extending around its periphery. The body is cut through one side to allow the body to expand peripherally. The bore accepts the end of a pipe with threads to be protected when the periphery is expanded and grips the pipe with the bore when the clamp closes the cut and shrinks the bore. To increase unit loading to force more elastomer of the body into thread grooves the bore has projections for gripping pads, or is recessed radially to produce gripping pads. The pads, which may be replaceably attached, reduced area increases deformity under clamping pressure and increases the force required to dislodge the protector from threads. • Patent number: 5437086
Abstract: A method of making a bi-metal pipe section, and especially reclaiming a used or damaged pipe section by making it into a bi-metal pipe section which resists corrosion. The bi-metal pipe section is used in constructing a pipe line or production tubing that resists corrosion at the pipe coupling where corrosion is especially prevalent in fluid conduits. The bi-metal pipe section is fabricated by first removing an annular marginal end of a length of the pipe section of the prior art, to provide a long length of pipe having a partially threaded cut end opposed to an opposite end. Next, an annular short length of pipe is axially aligned and butt welded to the cut, end of the long length of pipe. The short length of pipe preferably is an annular metallic alloy having greater resistance to corrosion respective to the long length of pipe.

  • Patent number: 5195562
Abstract: A protector for the threads of a pipe-end, comprises a tubular member including a longitudinal portion and a curved end portion bent substantially 270.degree., the curved end portion including an edge disposed a distance away from the longitudinal portion; and an elastomeric sleeve disposed co-axially and substantially co-extensively relative to the tubular member. The sleeve is adapted to engage the threads of the pipe-end. The sleeve includes an end portion disposed between the edge and the longitudinal portion, the edge clamping the sleeve end portion against the longitudinal portion, thereby securing the sleeve to the tubular member. The sleeve includes a radially extending annular flange disposed outside the curved end portion for engaging an end portion of the pipe-end.

  • Patent number: 5145283
Abstract: For gasketing slip joint applications, a method is disclosed for clean pipe laying involving shrink wrapping the bells and spigots of pipes and conduits prior to their installation in the field and circumferentially cutting an aperture in the shrink wrap at the end of the pipe to permit insertion of the end of a mating pipe. The above procedure provides a clean environment so that contaminants do not enter the pipe and eliminates the cleaning step normally necessary when joining or connecting water, sewer, or drainage pipe in an excavated trench. In the case of water, sewer, or drainage pipe, the O-ring seal of the bell is lubricated and then this end of the pipe is shrink wrapped, as is the mating tapered pipe to be inserted into the bell. The shrink wrap prevents contaminants from the excavation or otherwise from entering into either of the pipes to be joined, thereby eliminating joint failure due to contamination during installation as well as pipeline contamination in general.

  • Patent number: 5038829
Abstract: The present invention is a sewage clean-out line cover and removable cap made of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. The interior of the cover carries a plurality of rows of upwardly inclined teeth, the rows being parallel and unconnectable to each other. The teeth comprising each row have a pitch to depth ratio of approximately 1:1. The ratio of the slope of the upper surface of the teeth to the lower surface is 1:1, thus providing a tip for installation over the open end of the upstanding clean-out pipe which tip is flexible for pushing the cover over the open end of the clean-out pipe due to the inherent lubricity of the UHMWPE but which resists removal of the cover by the tips folding over to increase friction against the clean-out pipe outer surface. The cover is usable with cast iron or PVC pipe or any other presently known material used to form sewage clean out pipes.

  • Patent number: 5004016
Abstract: A pipe thread protector device for protecting the threads at the end of a casing section or the like, and including an elastomeric shoe having a cavity or recess in one side thereof for receiving the threaded end of the casing, and further having an elongated generally cylindrical constriction sleeve made of braided or interwoven wire elements connected to the shoe. One end of the constriction sleeve is embedded in this shoe and the other carries a plurality of tensioning tongues. The constriction sleeve construction causes it to undergo a reduction in diameter when it is placed in tension, and an enlargement in diameter when placed in compression.
