Patent number: 8925590Abstract: The pipeline leak detection and repair device is an autonomous machine that travels through a pipeline to detect very small leaks therein. The device also repairs those leaks with an on-board repair component. The repair occurs nearly simultaneously with the leak detection as the device passes the leak. The device includes a plurality of thin, flexible sensor leaves in a radial array. The leaves are positioned to place them nearly in contact with the inner surface of the pipe wall. Each leaf includes two sensors installed on its opposite surfaces. Flexure of the leaf due to changes in pressure gradient as the leaf passes a leak results in signals from the sensors being sent to an onboard processor. The processor determines the position of the affected leaf, and rotates a repair component to apply a pressure-sensitive tape patch over the leak as the repair component passes the leak.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2013Date of Patent: January 6, 2015Assignee: King Fahd University of Petroleum and MineralsInventors: Atia Esmaeil Khalifa, Samir Mekid

Publication number: 20140076448Abstract: A tubular liner for rehabilitating sewers includes a circumferentially expandable reinforcing layer impregnated with a light-curable reactive resin, and an outer tubular film surrounding the reinforcing layer and formed of a radially expandable material impermeable to UV light, in particular a liquid-tight and gas-tight plastic film. The tubular liner can be pulled into a sewer to be rehabilitated and can be expanded, in particular by using compressed air, so that the reinforcing layer and the outer tubular film contact the inner wall of the sewer before the reactive resin is cured. A protective tube made of a tear-resistant material is disposed around the outer tubular film and has a connecting portion extending in the longitudinal direction of the outer tubular film and being expandable in the circumferential direction by introducing compressed air into the tubular liner.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 25, 2013Publication date: March 20, 2014Applicant: BRANDENBURGER PATENENTVERWERTUNG GBRInventor: PETER DUTTENHOEFER

Patent number: 8667991Abstract: A liner tube is provided for repairing either a single pipe line or a main pipe line having a lateral pipe line connected thereto. The liner tube assembly includes a liner tube impregnated with a liquid material capable of curing and hardening. The liner tube includes a gasket or band positioned about the juncture of the pipe lines. The gasket or bands form a tight seal between the liner tube and the pipe line.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2011Date of Patent: March 11, 2014Assignee: LMK Technologies, LLCInventor: Larry W. Kiest, Jr.

Patent number: 8651145Abstract: A kit, apparatus, and method for sealing a junction between a manhole and a pipe within a sewer system are provided. In a first embodiment, the end of a pipe adjacent a manhole is sealed by the use of a pipe liner and a tubular sleeve made of a hydrophilic material. The tubular sleeve is held in place by a mechanical fastener and a pipe liner is installed or otherwise placed through the tubular sleeve and against the wall of the pipe. In a second embodiment, a majority of the area surrounding a junction of a pipe and a manhole is sealed by the use of a tubular sleeve made of a hydrophilic material including a flange portion, a mechanical fastener, a pipe liner, and a manhole liner.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 2012Date of Patent: February 18, 2014Assignee: LMK Technologies, LLCInventor: Larry W. Patent number: 8640737Abstract: An apparatus and method for sealing pipes or underground structures is provided. In one embodiment, the end of a pipe is sealed by the use of a pipe liner and a sealing member. The sealing member may be a hydrophilic material, a hydrophobic material, a compressible material, or a paste. The sealing member is held in place by a mechanical fastener and a liner is installed adjacent the sealing member and against the wall of the pipe or other structure to be sealed. In another embodiment, a manhole is sealed by the use of a sealing member, a mechanical fastener, and a manhole liner.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2012Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: LMK Technologies, LLCInventor: Larry W. Patent number: 8636036Abstract: An apparatus and method for sealing pipes. In one embodiment, the end of a pipe is sealed by the use of a pipe liner and a sealing member. The sealing member may be a hydrophilic material, a hydrophobic material, a compressible material, or a paste, and may also be a unitary member or formed from a sheet of material. The sealing member is held in place by a mechanical fastener and a liner is installed adjacent the sealing member and against the wall of the pipe or other structure to be sealed. The mechanical fastener aids in holding the sealing member in place at the end of the pipe.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2012Date of Patent: January 28, 2014Assignee: LMK Technologies, LLCInventor: Larry W.
