  • Patent number: 5012844
Abstract: A loom is provided with a closed path for the weft yarn from a yarn package to a picking nozzle. A first yarn guiding passage extends from a yarn clamp to a weft yarn storage device while a second yarn guiding passage extends from the storage device to the picking nozzle. Sensors are disposed along the path of the yarn in order to sense the presence or absence of a thread for searching/rethreading purposes. The second yarn guiding passage is articulated to the storage device and the picking nozzle in order to follow movements of the picking nozzles relative to a reed.

  • Patent number: 5002098
Abstract: A thread brake for braking a weft thread in a weaving machine includes a rigid stop and an elastically deformable blade which has a free end supported to press resiliently against the rigid stop. Thread guides are provided to guide weft threads between the rigid stop and the elastically deformable blade. The thread brake is activated when the deformable blade elastically presses against the rigid stop. When contacted by a switching device, however, the elastically deformable blade is pushed against its resilient force and removed from the rigid stop, at least in the region of the switching device, deactivating the thread brake.

  • Patent number: 4936355
Abstract: The weft change motion employs a connecting link between a reciprocating mixer lever and a pivotally mounted mixer segment. During normal alternating weft changing, the link moves from one end position through a neutral position and, under the inertia forces moves towards a second end position. The oscillating movement of the link permits the change motion to alternately feed weft yarns. In order to permit picking of the same weft yarn, a locking device is provided to prevent the oscillating link from moving past the neutral position. The locking device also serves to return the link to the same end position so that the same weft yarn can be picked. Various forms of locking devices can be used including an electromagnet, a movably mounted slide block with an appropriately shaped slot and a slide block employing a rotating disk having an appropriately shaped opening to receive a slide pin.

Abstract: The yarn selector comprises a number of yarn regulators each adapted to be selectively adjusted by way of a driving member between a standby position and a transfer position in dependence upon an actuator in which transfer position, a weft yarn is presented to a picking element for a subsequent pick. The driving members are selectively engageable with and disengageable from a driver oscillated at the cadence of the picking fequency. Each driving member is adapted to be locked, with the actuator in an active state by way of a ever-arm in an operative position corresponding to the transfer position of the yarn regulator, and to be disengaged from the lever arm with the actuator in a passive state. • Patent number: 4840203
Abstract: Apparatus for clamping, holding and presenting weft threads in a weaving loom is disclosed having: a movable clamp for each weft thread which keeps the corresponding weft threads clamped at their thread ends; thread guiding devices guiding of the weft threads from a supply to the corresponding clamp; and a driving and control mechanism for bringing a clamp successively into three positions for inserting the selected weft thread. The first position of the clamp is a storage position; the second position is located such that the weft thread between the clamp and the thread guiding devices is in the path of a gripper; and in the third position the clamp is located on the weft side near the cloth edge adjacent to the fell. Hooks fastened to the reed bring the insert weft thread back into the clamp during the beating movement of the reed. • Patent number: 4785856
Abstract: Weft threads are presented to a gripper in shuttleless looms by needles, each guided by at least one straight guide held askew in a needle guide carrier (9). These straight needle guides due to their askew arrangement make sure that all needles together are located in and displaceable in a fan type plane twisted in space. In the working position for presenting a weft thread each needle eye is located on a short line (7) extending approximately in parallel to a gripper path. Thus, all weft threads in their presenting position are close to each other in a narrow presenting zone within the reach of the gripper path for a sure gripping at the beginning of the forward gripper motion. At its beginning the gripper speed is still slow so that the weft threads are gripped gently. The straight needle guides held askew in the at least one guide carrier (9) form a row of guides which is slanted by a given angle relative to the gripper path to form the fan type plane twisted in space.

  • Patent number: 4143683
Abstract: The present invention relates to means for controlling and for cutting the weft threads in looms with weft inserters. The combination of the means for controlling and for cutting the weft threads comprises a thread cutter carried by the loom framing, as well as a threader and a lowering hook carried by the sley. The thread cutter is constituted by a vertically-movable knife which co-operates with a component provided towards the rear with a weft thread retaining hook. The knife has, towards the rear, an extension for guiding the weft thread into the shed. The threader is formed by a horizontal ramp ended at its rear by an upwardly and forwardly open loop, located above the path of the entry needle, while the lowering hook may adopt, selectively, a high position above the weft thread portion connecting the threader loop to the cloth and a low position in which it presses down and holds one point of said weft thread portion below the path of the nippers of the entry needle.

  • Patent number: 4132249
Abstract: A loom operating without a shuttle is provided with a weft selection mechanism and a weft retention mechanism with the former operating to select a weft thread and pass it through the sheds of the loom while the latter mechanism retains and holds the weft thread during loom operation. The weft selection mechanism includes a plurality of pivotable weft selector arms having a weft thread engaged at a first end thereof and an actuating mechanism oprating to drive a second end of the selector arms. A plurality of selector arms is provided with the first end of each of the arms passing through a common point during pivotal movement of the arms. The arms are pivotally mounted intermediate their first and second ends and a selector device is provided to selectively engage the second end of a particular arm with the actuating mechanism driving the arm through pivotal motion, thereby to effect selection of a weft thread.

Abstract: An apparatus for selectively inserting weft yarns of different natures, particularly colors, into the shed of a weaving loom. The apparatus has at least two weft shooting members each movable into a position ready to shoot the pick of weft yarn into the shed. Weft selector cam means having various conditions each operative to hold each weft shooting member in the above mentioned position thereof, are provided. Cam actuating means drive the cam means between the above mentioned conditions thereof, weft selector signal supply means store signals representative of a predetermined weft inserting schedule, and locking means are responsive to the signals for locking the cam actuating means in a condition inoperative to drive the cam means in response to one of the signals and releasing the cam actuating means from such a condition in response to another signal.

  • Patent number: 3995786
Abstract: There is disclosed an intermediate yarn feeding and control device having a storage member adapted to have yarn wound thereabout adjacent one end thereof to form yarn windings which advance toward the other end thereof. Yarn guide means located adjacent the other end of the storage member is adapted to guide the yarn, selectively, into one of two separate paths of yarn travel. A restraining element restrains the yarn withdrawal to a preselected rate when the yarn is guided through one of the paths but is clear of the yarn travel when the yarn is guided through the other of said paths for permitting the yarn to be withdrawn from the storage member at any desired rate. The yarn guide means includes a plurality of outwardly extending resilient fingers whose free ends support an outer ring so that when the withdrawn yarn is guided through the one path which is inwardly of the outer ring, it flexes successive resilient fingers which impart thereto a preselected tension.
