  • Patent number: 8302640
Abstract: A system and method is provided for capturing and releasably retaining one or more vials of medication in an at least partially inverted orientation. Embodiments include a housing partially defining one or more vial engagement stations. Each station includes a clamp element and a latch element which, upon insertion of a vial into the respective station, cooperate to capture and releasably retain the vial. A handle portion may be provided by which the clamp element may be returned to and latched in its open configuration, thereby also releasing the vial from the respective station. Each station may accommodate vials of various diameters. The housing may be mountable to a pole stand in vertically-adjustable fashion. The system may allow the vials to be retained at an angle with respect to the stand or local horizontal surface. Embodiments may further comprise a tray support bracket and removable drip tray element.

  • Patent number: 8291947
Abstract: A system and method for supplying bottled water to an appliance is provided, where the water bottle is opened as it is positioned on the appliance. The appliance includes an operational portion and a bottle receiving portion. The operational portion can be any appliance which utilizes water in its operations, such as humidifiers, vaporizers, coffeemakers, tea makers, dental water jets, and the like. The bottle receiving portion includes a conduit defining a fluid path, where the conduit is in fluid communication with the operational portion. The conduit has a first end with a piercing member for piercing the bottle, and a second end in fluid communication with the operational portion. When a water bottle is positioned in the bottle receiving portion, the piercing member pierces the bottle, allowing the water to exit the bottle along the fluid path to the operational portion of the appliance.

  • Patent number: 8287513
Abstract: A female piercing member protection device for connection with a male connection part, and a method for connecting the device to a male connection part. The device includes an outer casing and a connection member at least partly enclosed in the outer casing. The outer casing is moveable between first and second positions. In the first position, the connection member is substantially locked from movement along the longitudinal axis A, and in the second position the connection member is able to move along the longitudinal axis A. The device also has an activated position and an inactivated position. When the outer casing is in the second position, a deformable locking device is prevented from deformation by the outer casing to prevent disengagement of the male connection part. A secure piercing member protection device significantly minimizes the risk for a user to be exposed to contaminants and the piercing member itself.

  • Patent number: 8261787
Abstract: A system for transferring a viscous liquid between bottles that comprises a first bottle from which liquid is to be drained, a second bottle for receiving the liquid, a first bottle connector that attaches to the first bottle and a second bottle connector that attaches to the second bottle. Each bottle connector has a bottle engaging section that engages the bottle and a connection section that engages the connection section on an opposing bottle connector. Each connection section is genderless and comprises a plurality of outwardly extending members and a member receiving section between each adjacent members. When used to drain fluids from one bottle to another, an outwardly extending member of one connector is received in a member receiving section of the other connector to place the outwardly extending members in interlocking relation. The connection section can comprise a locking mechanism to lockingly join the two connectors together.

  • Patent number: 8156971
Abstract: An apparatus for the handling of hazardous fluids includes a collection vessel, a collection vessel connector, a dose control connector, a unit dose container, a delivery control connector, and a delivery site access device. The collection vessel contains the fluid prior to dispensing, the unit dose container contains a predetermined amount of the fluid for dispensing, the delivery site access device provides access to an intended delivery site, and the connector attaches pieces of the apparatus to one another. The method of the invention allows needle-free connections to be made for the apparatus, using a predetermined arrangement of the pieces of the apparatus, and in one embodiment, employs deformable elastomeric valves capable of creating a decreased pressure at a valve surface, so that upon closure of said valves, a fluid on the surface on the valves is withdrawn within the connector.

Abstract: The filling of a syringe can be performed at a faster rate using a filling sequence which expels air from the fill tube before filling the syringe. A similar method is used when changing contrast containers during a filling sequence to ensure that all the air is expelled from the fill tube before filling resumes with the new contrast container. Additionally, by including a contrast container holder that is affixed to an injector head and holds the container near the syringe tip, the filling sequence can be accomplished without requiring the operator to hold the contrast container during the sequence.
