Adjustable Gauge Collar, Displacement Member Or Seal Patents (Class 141/368)
  • Patent number: 5236023
Abstract: A collar attached around a nozzle has a pivot from which an arm extends. In a contracted position, the arm extends close along the nozzle toward the discharge end thereof to facilitate insertion of the nozzle into an opening of a tank. While in the opening, the arm is turned far enough, by an extension outside the opening, through an acute angle to contact the inside edge of the opening and therefore to force the nozzle in an opposite direction against the inside edge. A latch connected to the arm maintains, until the latch is released, the arm in an expanded or wedging position for retaining the nozzle in the opening. Another embodiment uses three arms evenly spaced for wedging the nozzle in a centered position in an opening.

  • Patent number: 5234038
Abstract: A pour spout for pouring a fluid, such as fuel, by gravity from a container to a tank. The spout includes a conduit having one end connected to the fuel container and having a second end to be positioned within the neck of the tank. A sleeve is mounted for sliding movement within the conduit and the outer end of the sleeve carries a closure which closes off the discharge end of the conduit. A vent tube is disposed within the conduit and has an inlet end which is adapted to communicate with the fuel tank when the closure is in the open position. A check valve is mounted within the vent tube and permits the flow of fuel vapor and air from the tank through the tube to the container, but prevents flow of fuel in the opposite direction. An annular collar is mounted on the conduit and with the collar engaged with the neck of the fuel tank, a downward force applied through the container on the sleeve will open the closure to admit fuel through the conduit to the tank.

  • Patent number: 4883103
Abstract: A sealing assembly is provided for use in a filler neck sized to receive a fuel-dispensing nozzle. The sealing assembly includes a sealing ring between the filler neck and a fuel-dispensing nozzle and a support for locating the seal in the filler neck to define in the filler neck an outer chamber communicable with the atmosphere and an inner chamber. The seal is configured to admit the fuel-dispensing nozzle into the inner chamber without coupling the inner and outer chambers in vapor communication. The sealing assembly partitions a fuel-conducting passageway in the filler neck to limit flow of vapors and gases through the passageway during dispensing of fuel into the filler neck and past the sealing assembly.

  • Patent number: 4586549
Abstract: A filling head (10) for a vacuum filling machine of the kind used for packaging powdered or granular products such as foodstuffs (e.g. powdered milk). The filling head has a downwardly extending delivery duct (15) which terminates in a delivery or outlet port (16) of annular shape defined between said duct and an adjustable valve member 17 mounted axially of said duct. The valve member is shaped as a conical frustum having the smaller end extending into said duct and adjustment is achieved by rotating said valve member on a threaded rod (18) extending axially within said duct. Thus the area of said delivery port may be varied to alter the compaction density of product in said duct and a supply hopper (21) to said duct. By reducing the port area the vacuum formed in a container being filled is increased as is the said density of product. The unique delivery port facilitates extremely high density packaging with a port of large area providing a rapid fill.

  • Patent number: 3937404
Abstract: A drain clearance device comprising a length of flexible hose having at one of its ends means for connecting it to a source of water under pressure and at the other end a nozzle of elliptic contour longitudinally thereof and of a size to fit into a drain pipe. Said nozzle has four circumferentially spaced, slot-shaped orifices in the flanks of its rounded front end that are adapted to emit flat jets of water under increased pressure forwardly at an oblique angle against the inner surface of the drain pipe to dislodge and flush away any foreign matter that may have accumulated on the wall of the pipe and impede the free flow of water through the pipe. Intermediately of its ends the hose carries slidably mounted thereon means that may be manipulated to close the space around the hose to block back flow of water to the entrance opening of the drain during operation of the device.
