Patent number: 5285828Abstract: An apparatus for introducing filler material in a fluid carrier into a measuring chamber in rapid succession is described. The apparatus includes a delivery subsystem for introducing the filler material into the fluid carrier. The delivery subsystem provides the fluid carrier and filler material to a diverter subsystem which separates the stream into two separate streams. The two separate streams are directed into a rotating concentrator subsystem that separates the fluid carrier from the filler material and compresses the filler material. The filler material is further compressed and dewatered in a taper subsystem and drain subsystem. The filler material is then dispensed from the drain subsystem into a measuring chamber where it is cut by a knife plate that includes two blades with overlapping cuts. The apparatus is capable of introducing controlled weights or volumes of filler material into a measuring chamber at high speeds.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1992Date of Patent: February 15, 1994Assignee: Promation IncorporatedInventors: Stavros Mihail, Marvin I. Patent number: 5244020Abstract: A dispenser of foodstuff is particularly well adapted to deliver cheese for pizza making. A refrigerator contains a bin which may be completely removed from said refrigerator for cleaning, as in a dishwasher, for example. The bin features inwardly sloping walls so that the cheese does not normally stick to the wall. An auger delivers the cheese to a spout where a star wheel meters flow and breaks up any clumps in the cheese. A spring biased trap door closes the spout, especially when the bin is removed from the refrigerator. The refrigerator contains parts which control the opening and closing of the trap door and the turning of the auger. The entire system operates under the control of a programmable microprocessor which includes means for detecting when the bin is empty or is failing to delivery the cheese.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1991Date of Patent: September 14, 1993Assignee: Middleby Marshall Inc.Inventors: Adrian A. Patent number: 4481987Abstract: Methods are provided for the controlled simultaneous dispensing of several fine powders into microcontainers which containers are used subsequently for clinical determinations. The method includes sifting the fine powders individually to render the individual particles of each powder to be the same size, and then combining them for the subsequent dispensing procedures. The method contemplates, in addition, the reduction of the individual particles of some powders to provide the equal size requirements, before combining with one or more other powders for the subsequent controlled dispensing procedures.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1983Date of Patent: November 13, 1984Assignee: Becton Dickinson and CompanyInventor: James A. Patent number: 4469144Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for dispensing, simultaneously and automatically, a plurality of small quantities of powder under improved conditions of control. The arrangement is such that precise amounts of micro quantities of hard-to-handle powder may be dispensed into containers such as blood collection tubes. Included herein is a brush mechanism that reciprocates over a plate in a controlled manner, for sweeping a slug of powder deposited automatically on the plate in a controlled manner through a number of openings in the plate, and into an equal number of containers. The openings are dimensioned and configured to cooperate with the sweeping action of the brush, so that a desired precise quantity of powder is deposited through each opening into the waiting containers.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1982Date of Patent: September 4, 1984Assignee: Becton Dickinson and CompanyInventor: James A. Patent number: 4412829Abstract: For the purpose of producing a cigarette filter unit provided with chambers which are filled with a pourable filter material a filter rope provided with chambers having filling openings which terminate to the outside is conveyed past a filler member provided with a filler opening lying sealingly against the latter. In order to obtain satisfactorily filled chambers even at very high advance speeds of the filter rope, the interior of the first chamber of the filler member which interior is connected to the filler opening is maintained during the filling process at an internal pressure which lies above that of the surrounding atmosphere. When then the chambers to be filled come into connection with the filler opening of the filler member an air stream is effected which, in consequence of the pressure difference thus produced, is directed out of the filler member into the chambers to be filled and which conveys filter material out of the filler member into the chambers to be filled of the filter rope.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1981Date of Patent: November 1, 1983Assignee: Baumgartner Papiers, S.A.Inventors: Jean-Pierre Lebet, Michel Berney

Patent number: 4359072Abstract: Associated with a horizontal pouch making machine for packaging a free flowing granular product between webs of flexible packaging material is a product lay down mechanism operable for receiving measured amounts of the product and depositing it in precisely defined areas of one of the webs being processed and in a flattened configuration such as to minimize the amount of packaging material required to contain said product. A product shaping member contacting the web surface during a dwell in the web feed cycle is formed with apertures which in combination with the web define cavities or molds which shape each deposit of product delivered thereto into the desired configuration having uniform height over substantially the entire surface area of the web portion upon which it is laid.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1980Date of Patent: November 16, 1982Assignee: General Foods CorporationInventors: Robert F. Patent number: 4341244Abstract: The invention relates to a metering device, particularly for capsule-filling machines. The device comprises a bowl having one or more chambers for receiving the product to be packaged. At least part of the bottom of the chambers is permeable to the air but impermeable to the product, and is arranged to communicate with a suction source.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1979Date of Patent: July 27, 1982Assignee: Farmatic S.N.C.Inventor: Libero Facchini

Patent number: 4337805Abstract: In an agricultural bag loading apparatus (10), a primary shaft (52) has a plurality of teeth (46). Rotation of the primary shaft (52) causes the teeth (46) to force silage into an agricultural bag (12). Silage is fed toward the shaft (52) by the rotation of a feeder shaft (60) having a plurality of angle irons (62) mounted thereon. The brake force of a brake (110) is applied through a drum (20), a cable (18), and a backstop (16) to the end of the agricultural bag (12) to control the degree of silage compression within the bag.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1980Date of Patent: July 6, 1982Assignee: AG-Bag CorporationInventors: William C. Johnson, David H. Rasmussen, Richard H. Lee

Patent number: RE31944Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for pressing and binding voluminous material into bales, in which material in the form of several layers is supplied through a closable opening into a pressing chamber where compression takes place of each supplied layer. Final pressing is carried out at high pressure after a desired number of layers have been supplied into the pressing chamber, whereafter the pressing effect is lowered to a substantially lower pressure, so that the material compressed into a bale is permitted to expand, and the bale thereafter is discharged from said pressing chamber through a closable opening and bound while said substantially lower pressure is being maintained.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1980Date of Patent: July 16, 1985Assignee: Sunds Defibrator AktiebolagInventor: Nils E. Patent number: RE33491Abstract: An agricultural bag loading machine having an improved mechanical assembly for automatically effecting controlled, continuous compression and delivery of compacted animal feed material into a flexible agricultural storage bag via a compression and delivery chamber. The compressed, delivered feed material has a uniform, air tight side wall density throughout the bag-delivered, sausage shaped feed material mass. The loading machine has additional features, including a pneumatic bladder assembly for changing the forming chamber dimensions and configuration, an improved agricultural bag attachment and continuous feeding mechanism which eliminates bag fold-over and wrinkling problems during filling, and an integral forming chamber cleanout mechanism which enables clearing and cleaning of the forming chamber at the end of an agricultural bag loading operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1988Date of Patent: December 18, 1990Assignees: Rand Farm Systems Inc., Poly Farms, Inc.Inventors: William C.
