  • Patent number: 8876959
Abstract: A device for at least one self-heated and dense ceramic tube for gas separation. The device includes at least one dense ceramic tube in an environment accessible to a mixture of gases, the at least one tube acting as a diffusion membrane for separating at least one gas from the mixture of gases. Two electrical contacts are provided which allow connecting a power supply to the ceramic tube and driving an electric current through the ceramic tube. The contacts can be in the farm of short coils wrapped around the ceramic tube at difference places. When a voltage is applied to the contacts, an electrical current flows from one contact to the other through the ceramic tube. The current in the ceramic tube heats the tube. Thus, the tubes heat themselves. The hot tube allows separating a gas from the mixture of gases. The driving force for the diffusion is achieved by a pressure difference generated by pumping at the side of the separated gas and pressing at the side of the mixture of gases.

Abstract: An interchangeable chipper tool attachment for a hog allows a hog machine to operate as either a hog or a chipper. An operator of the hog machine can remove hammer tools used in the hog and replace them with the chipper attachment. The chipper attachment includes knife receiving area, a knife support receiving area, and a fastener portion for mounting the tool holder to rotor disks on the rotor assembly of the hog machine. A knife assembly, including a chipper knife, is coupled to the tool holder at the knife receiving area and points in the direction of rotation of the rotor. A knife support block supports the chipper knife and is coupled to the tool holder at the knife support receiving area, a lateral face of the tool holder adjacent to the knife receiving area. When mounted in an interleaved fashion between the rotor disks of the rotor assembly, the chipper knife rotates in a circular path and produces chips by cutting wood waste against an anvil on the hog.

Abstract: Wood wafers are produced by feeding logs to a rotary cutter head drum with the longitudinal axis of the logs disposed substantially parallel to the rotational axis of the drum. The drum mounts a plurality of wafer cutting head units arranged in a V-shaped pattern with the apex of the V trailing the base thereof and with the cutting blades defining the ends of the base positioned at the opposite ends of the operative length of the drum. Each wafer cutting blade having a cutting edge disposed substantially parallel to the axis of the drum and offset circumferentially and axially from an adjacent cutting blade so that the cut produced by a cutting blade overlaps the cut produced by the next adjacent preceding cutting blade.

  • Patent number: 5725464
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for the automatic replacement of rim shaped size reduction tools by means of a programmed sequence control which is started according to the present invention when the power consumption of the size reduction machine rises due to the wear of the acting edges. An essential component of the invention is a locking system allowing the automatic engaging and disengaging of the knife rim from its carrying disc. The system consists essentially of three locking bolts fastened on the tool rim and in which catch notches, located behind the carrying disc, the locking nose of the locking unit snaps in being pressed by a spring. To disengage the tool rim, the hydraulically actuable plunger presses the locking unit whereby the locking nose snaps out of the locking bolt so that the forcing spring can now force the tool rim from its carrying disc.

  • Patent number: 5647417
Abstract: A long-timber chipping machine has a timber feed channel for receiving longitudinally arranged timbers, advanced using a timber-advancing device to a vertically movable chipping device positioned at the downstream end of the feed channel. The chipping device has a rotatable cutter ring equipped with chipping cutters on its cylindrical inner wall, which defines a chipping chamber. The chamber is aligned with the downstream end of the feed channel. To improve the chipping, a curved timber-receiving plate projects into the chipping chamber from the downstream end of the feed channel, which also has a matching curved base. The curvature of the plate and the base match the curvature of upper cylindrical inner wall of the cutter ring so that the upper cylindrical inner wall can be lowered closely to the plate, leaving only a very small clearance and exposing all of the timbers to the chipping cutters.

  • Patent number: 5485873
Abstract: An improved knife clamping system for use in an apparatus for processing wood, such as a flaker, chipper or waferizer, that employs a rotary disc or ring, cutting knives, holding locations mounted on the disc or ring to receive the cutting knives, clamping members to engage and hold the cutting knives in position and fasteners to mount the clamping members to the holding locations. The improvement comprises providing a surface having an undulating profile to engage against the cutting knives. The undulating surface can be formed on the clamping member, at the holding location or at both locations. The surface is shaped to deform to engage the cutting knives with a uniform clamping load upon securing of the fasteners to a pre-selected torque. The foregoing arrangement requires fewer fasteners while still maintaining an adequate clamping force on the cutting knives. This makes parts less expensive and reduces the time to change the knives as there are fewer parts to loosen and tighten.

Abstract: A ring flaker has a housing with a back opening so that a blade ring mounted to an arbor assembly can be slid backwards away from the housing to allow the blade ring to be replaced without removing the housing. This arrangement reduces the down time generally necessary to replace a blade ring in a ring flaker. The back opening in the housing is of sufficient size to permit the blade ring to be axially withdrawn. The arbor assembly has a slide arrangement on the ring flaker carriage and there is provision to use a hydraulic jack to move the arbor assembly on the slide arrangement for a distance sufficient for the blade ring to be disconnected for removal and replacement.

  • Patent number: 5070918
Abstract: A device suitable for the continuous feeding of wood pieces of approximately the same length into flaking machines comprises a feed trough opening into the flaking machine, behind which there is arranged a loading magazine whose cross section agrees with the feed trough. The lengths of wood are shaped into compact piles, which are then advanced cyclically into the flaking machine by means of a pushing plate. In order to be able to bring the pushing plate back over the log pile already prepared for further processing inside the loading magazine, the pushing plate is able to be slewed upon a support that can be moved parallel to the floor of the device, over both the feed trough and the loading magazine. Control members attached to the pushing plate interact for short intervals with stationary control paths at the beginning and end of the return trip of the pushing plate to cause the plate to tip either into its withdrawal position or into its pushing position.
