  • Patent number: 10197081
Abstract: A friction fit fastening system, that creates a firm and invisible connection between panels or substrates without the use of tools or glue, comprising a fastener and mating rout. The fastener has a ramp element that allows it to slide and connect to a mating rout. Different routs are used for different embodiments of the fasteners. The rout is formed directly in the panel face or edge or formed on a substrate by a router bit that has three cutting edges. The connections made by the friction fit fastening system are invisible. The fasteners can be installed at the manufacturing site so the user simply slides or inserts the fasteners into the appropriate slot or hole when assembling. The friction fit fastening system is easily removable from the panels making assembling and disassembling quick and easy because the fastener is made of one piece.

  • Patent number: 8082958
Abstract: A knife includes first and second edges, a ridge, a concave surface, and a planar surface. The edges are defined by intersections of outer edge forming surfaces on an outer side of the knife and inner edge forming surfaces on an inner side of the knife. The ridge is on the inner side and the crest of the ridge is parallel to the first and second edges. The concave surface is between an inner edge forming surface and the ridge, and the planar surface is adjacent to the concave surface and between that first inner edge forming surface and the concave surface. A reference plane intersects the first and second edges, and a distance between any point on the concave surface and the reference plane is not less than a distance between any point on the planar surface and the reference plane.

  • Patent number: 7938155
Abstract: A cutting assembly includes a knife assembly having a knife holder and a knife blade, a counter knife, and a scoring tip holder. In one arrangement, the counter knife is secured to a ring strander drum, the knife holder and scoring tip holder are carried by a clamping element, and knife blade is disposed between the counter knife and the knife holder. In a closed position, the clamping element causes the knife and scoring tip holders to generate a compressive force against the counter knife, thereby securing the knife blade within the cutting assembly. In an open position, the clamping element positions the knife and scoring tip holders in a spaced relationship relative to the counter knife, thereby allowing removal of the knife blade from the cutting assembly. Accordingly, an operator can replace the knife blade in the cutting assembly without having to remove the entire cutting assembly from the ring strander device.

  • Patent number: 7712492
Abstract: The planing blade axle includes an axle body and blades assembled externally onto the axle body in a predefined pattern. Tapped holes are arranged onto the blade assembly surface of the axle body for assembly of blades. A pyramidal through-hole is placed centrally onto the blade, so that the blades screw securely into the tapped hole via the bolts with pyramidal end blade. An expanded shoulder is additionally placed at a top of the pyramidal through-hole, so that an expanded flange is placed opposite to the pyramidal end of the bolt. When the blade is screwed by the bolt, a definite and solid positioning effect will be achieved if the flange contacts the expanded shoulder of the blade. The present invention efficiently prevents excessive locking and subsequent cracking of the blade, increasing positioning area, leading to prolonged service life and a more stable locking state with improved applicability.

Abstract: The disclosure herein describes a knife holder forming part of a timber shaping and chip cutting head; the holder defines a flat shaped body bent in an open V-shape to form two integrally joined portions, one of which provides a surface for mounting upon a rotatable core and the other serves to secure the chip cutting knife. The head is formed of a plurality of adjacently disposed knife holders radially mounted on the face of said rotatable core, said face being perpendicular to the axis of rotation. The knife is removably mounted upon the knife holder in a manner that the knife can be rotated so that more than one cutting edge may be used.

  • Patent number: 5575320
Abstract: The disclosure describes a cutting tool assembly for mounting unto a rotatable chip forming head. It comprises a knife holder having a base portion which is adapted to be secured peripherally to the head and a cantilevered plate portion having a lower section integral with the base portion and an upper section extending obliquely over the base portion. The cantilevered arrangement of the knife supporting plate enables the lateral ejection of chips produced from a solid piece of wood during operation so that chips do not contact successive cutting tool assemblies as the head rotates.

  • Patent number: 5511597
Abstract: A log-slabbing chipper having a chipper head that includes a power-driven rotor head and multiple double-edged knives distributed about the rotor head. A detachable wear plate for each knife extends in covering relation over a cutting edge in the knife that occupies an inoperative position. The wear plate establishes a proper depth of cut for the cutting edge of a knife that follows the wear plate.

  • Patent number: 5505239
Abstract: A blade holder for a chipper having a support that is configured to accommodate chip flow. The support is scoop shaped to provide a guide surface to guide the chips through the chipper while avoiding damaging impact. The chipper blades are in two parts and fitted together in end-to-end abutment and forming a bend at their juncture. One of the blade ends is grooved to receive an end edge of the other blade whereby the juncture is overlapped for added strength and to resist wood fibers being wedged into the juncture.

  • Patent number: 5501256
Abstract: An improved chipper knife system includes reversible chipper knives having formed integrally thereon nose structures comprising a leading component of a chip breaking system. A clamp plate surface follows the nose structure and, by virtue of the nose structure taking wear, has extended life and, therefore, extended value. A simple clamp arrangement includes knife registration relative to a clamp plate and a calibration keeper bar establishes a fixed position between the clamp plate the knife holder. Knives are thereby dismounted and remounted relative to the clamp without an intermediate calibration step.

  • Patent number: 5439039
Abstract: A log-slabbing chipper with multiple knife structures distributed about the periphery of a power-driven rotor head. Each knife structure includes a holder and a pair of assemblies mounting double-edge replaceable knives. Each knife is mounted between a clamp and a fixed counterknife. Each knife has a serrated back-bearing surface and each clamp has a correspondingly serrated clamping surface. Adjusting screws exert pressure on the clamps to slide the clamps and the knives with respect to the stationary counterknives to achieve desired precise edge positions.
