Patent number: 6021828Abstract: A trim saw is mounted in conjunction with a hogger, or device for reducing scrap to particles, or saw dust. The hogger is made up of a any desired number of units that will reduce scrap to sawdust. Each unit has a pair of oscillator plates that hold a pair of semicircular blade portions at an angle to the axis of rotation, so the blade portions sweep a wide kerf. Since the blades are generally conventional saw blades, they can be sharpened by conventional machines, obviating the need for hand sharpening. Also, the relatively fine teeth on the hogger blades allows substantially uniform power loading for uniform operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 1999Date of Patent: February 8, 2000Assignee: Cut Rite CorporationInventor: Denton C. Patent number: 5636428Abstract: A blade arrangement for cutting dados that includes magnetic dado spacers, which firmly adhere through magnetic attraction to the dado blades, is disclosed. Also, with the blade arrangement of the present invention, problems due to blade vibrations are reduced. The cutting width is conveniently measured and adjusted without having to repeatedly install and remove the nut, since the magnetic dado spacers hold adjacent blades firmly together, before they are tightened. Additionally, the use of magnetic dado spacers reduces the possibility of the spacers falling into and becoming caught in the thread of an arbor. A further advantage is that the magnetic dado spacers are much quicker and easier to install than prior art dado spacers.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1996Date of Patent: June 10, 1997Assignee: Tom DeckerInventor: Johannes Van Mourik

Patent number: 5537728Abstract: A magnetic dado shim is a disc cut from highly flexible magnetic sheeting, and includes a central arbor hole. When the magnetic dado shim is placed concentrically on a steel dado blade, it sticks securely thereto, and will not easily shim in position. Therefore, the magnetic dado shim will not fall into the thread of an arbor and become damaged when the dado set is tightened thereon. Accordingly, the magnetic dado shim is very easy to install.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1995Date of Patent: July 23, 1996Assignee: Tom DeckerInventor: Johannes Van Mourik

Patent number: 5368079Abstract: An adjustable dado having the adjustment ease of a wobble type dado with the cut quality of a stacking type dado. The outer cutting blade is bored and threaded, and a threaded adjusting collar is threaded into the outer blade. An adjustment washer has pins to engage openings in the adjusting collar, so that rotation of the adjustment washer adjusts the position of the outer blade. The invention allows quick and easy adjustment of a stacking dado without removal of the dado blades.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 1994Date of Patent: November 29, 1994Inventor: Randy E. Benway

Multiple saw blade adjustable dado cutter assembly including a cam assembly and nestable dado blades
Patent number: 5309962Abstract: A multiple saw blade adjustable dado cutter assembly. The cutter can be used with a table saw or a radial arm saw, for example, to make dado cuts in board lumber. A pair of cooperating cams, each connected to a saw blade, can be adjusted to make a dado cut of a desired width. If the desired dado width is wider than the two blade configuration can cut, a center cam attached to another blade can be inserted between the pair of cooperating cams. With the three blade configuration, the three cams cooperate to allow the three blades to be spaced for the desired width of cut. In both configurations and at any spacing width, the two or three blades employed remain in a generally parallel alignment and transverse to the axis of the arbor on which the assembly is secured. To permit the blades to function with this geometrical relationship and to be adjustable, not all of the blade teeth lie in the same plane. The sequentially operating three or more cam assembly has uses beyond dado cutting.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1993Date of Patent: May 10, 1994Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventors: Wilfred M. McCord, Jr., David T. Brutscher -
Patent number: 5238037Abstract: An adjustable wobble dado assembly has a planar circular blade with spaced peripheral cutting teeth. The cutting teeth have respective top cutting edges at their radially outer extremities which are located at progressively different radial distances from the axis of the blade so that, when the axis is tilted relative to the arbor for purposes of cutting a groove, those top cutting edges located at progressively greater radial distances from the axis cut portions of the groove located progressively further from the longitudinal center of the groove. The top cutting edges also have respective different top angles relative to the axis of the blade, those edges located at progressively greater radial distances from the axis having progressively greater top angles relative to the axis. An adjustable hub assembly includes a hub composed of an integral portion of the material of the blade having a thickness greater than that of the blade.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1992Date of Patent: August 24, 1993Assignee: Dalex, Inc.Inventors: Fred G. Patent number: 4970927Abstract: The hub (3) of the circular or disc-saw is supported, at the end adjacent to the saw, by at least one swingable radial bearing (6), while at the opposite end, driven for rotation by the pulley (28), the hub is supported by a servo-control (10-12) by which the axis of the hub can be maintained in line with the axis of rotation or said axes can be spaced apart angularly by rotation about a common point thereof, whereby the teeth of the saw will have a composite rotational movement and symmetrical side oscillation, with a frequency proportional to the rotational speed of the saw and with an amplitude proportional to the spacing of the axes and to the radius of the saw. The saw is used to score the panels which are subsequently cut through by the saw while being driven only in rotation.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1988Date of Patent: November 20, 1990Assignee: Giben Impianti S.p.A.Inventor: Benuzzi, Piergiorgio

Patent number: 4589458Abstract: This invention relates to a dado cutting circular saw arrangement and more particularly to an arrangement comprising a pair of saw blades which are adjustable from a minimum dado width cutting position wherein the blades are juxtaposed relative to a plane perpendicular to the rotational axis of the blades. A cam arrangement adapted to be interposed between the saw blades is employed for selectively adjusting the position of the blades to cut dados of varying widths. The cam arrangement causes the blades to pivot from their minimum dado position, juxtaposed to the plane, about adjacent peripheral pivot points in a manner that selectively adjustably positions the peripheral edges of the blades diametrically opposite from those adjacent pivot points outward relative to the plane and, thus, provide a range of dado cutting widths.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1984Date of Patent: May 20, 1986Assignee: Vermont American CorporationInventor: Wilfred M. McCord, Jr.

Patent number: 4305441Abstract: A rotating arbor in a sawing machine such as a table saw or radial saw or in a milling machine is provided with a pair of pressing members that are mounted on the arbor so as to be rotated in unison therewith, and a bearing sleeve which is provided on the arbor between the pressing members so as to be rotatable in unison therewith. A rotary blade for forming a groove is clamped from both sides thereof by a pair of clamping members which are mounted on the bearing sleeve in a tilted orientation for holding the rotary blade at an inclined angle with respect to the arbor, the clamping members being pressed between, and hence secured by the pair of pressing members. Turning both clamping members relative to the pressing members allows the clamping members to be tilted together with the rotary blade with respect to the central axis of the arbor.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1980Date of Patent: December 15, 1981Assignee: Ohmi Kogyo Co. Each inner plate member has an inwardly tapering central aperture for rotatably receiving a respective cylindrical hub of an outer plate member. Each cylindrical hub extends along an axis perpendicular to the outer surface, rather than the inclined inner surface, of the outer plate member, such axis also being coincident with the axis of an arbor bore extending through the hub.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1976Date of Patent: October 25, 1977Assignee: Lifetime Carbide CompanyInventors: Fred G.
