  • Patent number: 6883527
Abstract: The compressor cleaning system includes a track mounted about the inlet of the compressor. A circumferential position assembly mounts an insertion drive assembly which is driven about the track into selected circumferential positions. The insertion drive assembly carries a manipulator arm assembly mounting at its distal end a cleaning head. By using pairs of control cables, the proximal yaw, pitch and distal yaw sections of the manipulator arm can be moved to weave the cleaning head past the multiple stages of blading to locate the cleaning head adjacent a selected blade. By repeated extension and retraction of the cleaning head relative to the compressor inlet and about the compressor blades, each blade can be cleaned without disassembly of the compressor casing or removal of the rotor.

  • Patent number: 6839930
Abstract: An apparatus for cleaning deposits from the interior surfaces of a kiln. The apparatus utilizes a directed high-pressure fluid jet to remove deposits adhering to elements within a kiln. The pressurized fluid is delivered to the fluid jet through the shaft of a rotary drill. The drill shaft is received in a sleeve permitting rotational and longitudinal displacement of the shaft. The sleeve also defines a plenum surrounding the drill shaft to communicate pressurized fluid to the fluid jet throughout longitudinal and rotational displacement of the drill shaft. The drill further utilized a boring bit suitable for penetrating encrusted deposits to provide the fluid jet access to the interior surfaces of the kiln. For removing severe encrustations, the drill bit may be used to partially penetrate the encrustation and a linear actuator may then be employed to press large portions of the encrustation from the kiln's refractory lining.

  • Patent number: 6676767
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved apparatus and method for removing condensates, such as chlorides, from a dry etch, vacuum effluent stream. Dry etching of metallizations under vacuum conditions, using RF plasma and other techniques, is used in the processing of semiconductor devices and other applications. The apparatus and method remove accumulated chloride deposits that would otherwise restrict and ultimately plug the pipe that carries the vacuum effluent stream. The present invention utilizes an inner tube that is placed on the interior of the pipe and magnetically coupled to an outer tube that surrounds the exterior of the pipe. Translation of the outer tube causes translation of the inner tube, thereby removing accumulated condensate from the pipe. The apparatus may be configured so as to sense the accumulation of the condensate and automatically actuate the apparatus to remove the accumulated condensate.

  • Patent number: 6473481
Abstract: The present invention is a control rod guide tube cleaning apparatus in a nuclear reactor which includes a rod member, one end side portion of which has a thickness such that the end side portion can pass through the inside of a connecting portion between a housing of a control rod drive mechanism and a control rod guide tube, a nozzle for sucking water, mounted on the rod member on the one end side so that the nozzle can go in and out of the rod member, a means for rotating the rod member in a horizontal direction, and a water passage for leading water sucked in the nozzle to an outside of the housing along the rod member. The rod member is inserted into the control rod guide tube through the inside of the housing. Then, the nozzle is rotated downward so that a suction port of the nozzle faces the bottom inside portion of the control rod guide tube for the suction of dust and debris. The nozzle is rotated in the horizontal direction by rotating the rod member in the horizontal direction.

Abstract: A hand tool includes a handle sized and provided with an outer shape and finish to be comfortably grabbed and manually turned, and a shank extending from one end of the handle coaxially therewith. The shank is formed with a chip-engaging free end portion in the form of self-threading or self-tapping threads that continue to and terminate in a point at the free end thereof. A pile of chips at the bottom of a blind tapped hole is removed by inserting the free end of the threaded shank into the hole until the chips are encountered, turning the tool while applying a slight pressure such that the free end of the tool threads into the pile of chips, and then pulling the free end of the tool from the hole to remove the chips threaded thereon.

  • Patent number: 6418960
Abstract: The present invention generally provides an apparatus and method for improving the process of purging a liquid delivery system used in integrated circuit manufacturing. The liquid delivery system comprises ultrasonic transducers mounted to various components of a liquid delivery system. The transducers may be mounted on housings, isolation valves, fuel injectors, pump assemblies, fluid lines, and/or liquid flow meters. The ultrasonic transducers launch ultrasonic energy that enhance the removal of processing liquids and particulate material from components of the system. The present invention provides for a purge process where a purge fluid, preferably a liquid solvent, is flowed into the liquid delivery system and ultrasonic energy is launched into the purge fluid to enhance dissolution of residual processing liquids and particulate matter in the liquid delivery system, including from cracks and crevices in valves and other complex mechanical devices before being pumped from the liquid delivery system.
