  • Patent number: 8764119
Abstract: A paint brush (201) is provided. The brush comprises a bristle cluster (207) and a handle (202) for holding the cluster. The root end of the cluster is set into adhesive composition by a set depth X. The cluster comprises bristles of two or more different lengths. For a majority of the bristles the difference in length between a longest bristle and a shortest bristle is a range value Y. Y is less than X which means that one end of all bristles conforming to this rule must be embedded in adhesive composition but not all bristles will extend all the way to the tip end of the cluster. This ensures that bristles do not fall out of the handle while providing a tip end with reduced weight.

  • Patent number: 8713743
Abstract: The present invention is a rotary brushing tool and method of constructing the rotary brushing tool. The rotary brushing tool comprises a hub portion and a wheel portion. The hub portion has a pair of hub elements, where each hub element includes a central opening, an annular retaining plate portion that extends radially from the central opening, and a tubular portion that extends axially from the central opening. Placing the tubular portions of the hub elements in opposition forms a hub channel that extends radially from the central opening. The wheel portion includes bristles arranged in the hub channel to extend substantially radially from the central opening, and a castable material for retaining the bristles. Pouring the castable material into the hub channel and allowing it to cure, forms a hub that retains the bristles.

  • Patent number: 7921499
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for producing a toothbrush (50) or part thereof by the two-component or multi-component injection-molding process. To produce in the brush body segments (20) that are isolated from the rest of the brush body, a mold (10) which comprises three hollow regions (12, 14, 16) is used. Two of these hollow regions (12, 14) that are separate from one another serve for producing the segments (12) and the other regions (18) of the toothbrush (50) from a first component (38). A third hollow region (16) serves for distributing material to the segments (20) that are isolated from one another and from the other regions (18), or the corresponding hollow region (14). The material (22) remaining behind there is removed and sent for disposal. In a further step, connecting elements (42) between the segments (20) and/or the other regions (18) are injection-molded from a second component (39).

  • Patent number: 5920943
Abstract: A paint brush handle has an outer layer of a comfortable, relatively soft elastomeric material that surrounds a rigid core of foamed polyolefin. The handle is made using a co-injection process in which a mold cavity is first coated by an initial partial shot of the elastomeric material and then filled by injecting more elastomeric material and polyolefin material containing a foaming agent simultaneously. The simultaneous shot of these materials is achieved by injecting the materials through a single inlet passage into the mold cavity in which the flows are concentric, with the elastomeric material surrounding the polyolefin material. The ferrule is attached to the handle using nails or other suitable fasteners which penetrate into the rigid inner core.

  • Patent number: 4590637
Abstract: A general purpose paint brush comprises an elongate handle, a generally tubular, longitudinally extending ferrule secured to said handle, and a tuft of longitudinally extending bristles having a working end and a root end anchored in said ferrule. The tuft has substantially parallel side faces extending transversely the width of the tuft and defining therebetween a lesser thickness of the tuft, and the working end of the tuft has a planar working surface sharply angled in relation to a plane normal to the lengths of the bristles from one side face of the tuft to the other side face across the full thickness of the tuft to provide greater exposure of bristles at the working surface which enables the brush to hold and apply more paint. Also, the working surface forms with the longer side face of the tuft a sharp knife edge at such side face of the brush which renders the brush particularly suitable for use as a trim brush while the full thickness inclined working surface provides a large paint transfer surface.

The longer guard hairs extend beyond the shorter guard hairs to provide a paintbrush capable of painting simultaneously a plurality of extremely thin lines. The mink guard hairs are secured to a ferrule which, in turn, is joined to a wooden handle. The handle has a slim outer portion into which the ferrule is fitted. It has a relatively wider middle portion to provide for easy gripping and a wider rear portion ending in a flat pallet. The pallet may be used for spreading paint.
