The cartridge includes a rigid or resilient upper base (312) having a convex or flat top surface (314) upon which the lip balm is associated, and a volume of lip balm attached to the top surface of the base. The flat or convex top surface allows wiping the balm onto the lips single-handedly. The top surface of the cartridge includes a plurality of integrally-attached bristles (330, 332), between which the lip balm is embedded, anchoring the lip balm to the cartridge, and providing the additional function of exfoliation.

Abstract: A paint brush and method of making the same is disclosed. The paint brush includes a velutinous painting portion having a body including a cavity and an opening, an insert disposed within the body, a handle coaxial with the body, and a ferrule connecting the body to the handle to seal the insert within the body. The body includes an interior face having a rigid surface and an exterior face having velutinous members. The velutinous members include animal fur, synthetic filaments, and/or natural fibers. The method includes sewing fabric having a velutinous surface into a pocket having a cavity, positioning the pocket so the velutinous surface faces an exterior of the pocket, inserting a semi-rigid foam insert into the cavity to form a velutinous painting portion, and connecting the velutinous painting portion to a paint brush handle with a ferrule to form a paint brush having a velutinous painting portion.

The root end of the cluster is set into adhesive composition by a set depth X. The cluster comprises bristles of two or more different lengths. For a majority of the bristles the difference in length between a longest bristle and a shortest bristle is a range value Y. Y is less than X which means that one end of all bristles conforming to this rule must be embedded in adhesive composition but not all bristles will extend all the way to the tip end of the cluster. This ensures that bristles do not fall out of the handle while providing a tip end with reduced weight.

Abstract: The present invention is a rotary brushing tool and method of constructing the rotary brushing tool. The rotary brushing tool comprises a hub portion and a wheel portion. The hub portion has a pair of hub elements, where each hub element includes a central opening, an annular retaining plate portion that extends radially from the central opening, and a tubular portion that extends axially from the central opening. Placing the tubular portions of the hub elements in opposition forms a hub channel that extends radially from the central opening. The wheel portion includes bristles arranged in the hub channel to extend substantially radially from the central opening, and a castable material for retaining the bristles. Pouring the castable material into the hub channel and allowing it to cure, forms a hub that retains the bristles.

Abstract: A paint brush handle has an outer layer of a comfortable, relatively soft elastomeric material that surrounds a rigid core of foamed polyolefin. The handle is made using a co-injection process in which a mold cavity is first coated by an initial partial shot of the elastomeric material and then filled by injecting more elastomeric material and polyolefin material containing a foaming agent simultaneously. The simultaneous shot of these materials is achieved by injecting the materials through a single inlet passage into the mold cavity in which the flows are concentric, with the elastomeric material surrounding the polyolefin material. In fabrication, hair is removed from the tail of the mink and the guard hairs are separated from the undercoat, which consists of soft and woolly hairs, preferably by brushing with a wire brush. The guard hairs which remain are selected into shorter and longer guard hairs. The shorter guard hairs are formed into a relatively thick body portion. The longer guard hairs extend beyond the shorter guard hairs to provide a paintbrush capable of painting simultaneously a plurality of extremely thin lines. The mink guard hairs are secured to a ferrule which, in turn, is joined to a wooden handle. The handle has a slim outer portion into which the ferrule is fitted. It has a relatively wider middle portion to provide for easy gripping and a wider rear portion ending in a flat pallet. The pallet may be used for spreading paint. The brush may be secured to the ferrule in any conventional manner.

A bristle setting material retains the bristles within the ferrule. A plurality of elongate spacer elements are arranged inside the ferrule generally parallel to the inner end portions of the bristles. The bristles and spacer elements are tightly packed in the ferrule and the spacer elements are distributed between the bristles so as to mechanically and positively space the bristles and provide a predetermined bristle density. Paint brush manufacturing methods are also described.

Abstract: Blackboard eraser having a handle made of foamed plastic. Discreet rows of fiberglass filaments for cleaning off the chalk are secured to the bottom of the handle. Channels between the rows collect dust during the erasing operation so that the fibers don't clog. Preferably, the channels are closed off to prevent dust from falling away during erasing. The channels are self-cleaning in that the dust falls away when the eraser is placed on the sill.
