  • Patent number: 6990704
Abstract: In order to perform scrub cleaning of a substrate, two different scrub heads 31 and 32 are employed. The scrub head 31 is superior to the scrub head 32 in terms of a capability of removing contamination. The scrub head 32 has a low level of adhesion to the contamination as compared with the scrub head 31. The scrub heads 31 and 32 are moved such that the scrub head 32 follows the scrub head 31. Consequently, it is possible to clean the substrate without re-applying contamination, which has been once removed from a surface of the substrate, to the surface of the substrate again.

  • Patent number: 6939404
Abstract: A lane maintenance machine has a cleaning system that includes at least one cleaning liquid dispensing head which reciprocates back and forth transversely of the lane as the machine travels along the length of the lane. In a preferred embodiment the dispensing head emits successive squirts of liquid from a positive displacement pump, such as a peristaltic pump. The positive displacement pump provides accurate, precise metering of the cleaning liquid and affords board-by-board control of the dispensing action. A wiping assembly immediately behind the cleaning liquid dispensing head provides a web of cloth-like material looped under a compressible backup roller to wipe the applied liquid into a thin film and to pick up a measure of the liquid along with oil and dirt.

  • Patent number: 6820542
Abstract: An apparatus 10 for compacting and baling leaves, grass clippings, sticks, pine straw and other debris on lawns, yards, or fields is provided. The apparatus 10 may have diagonal brushes 26 to gather debris for processing though a crusher 28, a conveyor belt 30 to transport the crushed debris, and a baler 32 to compact and bale the debris. The baler 32 may compact the debris by rotating the debris in a continuous band 52, into which baling material 72 may be inserted to bale the debris. Alternatively, the debris may be gathered and feed into a crusher 28 that deposits the crushed debris directly into the baler 32 for compacting and baling. Further still, the apparatus 10 may gather the debris with brushes 26 and feed it onto a conveyor mechanism 30 that then introduces it into a crusher 28. The crushed debris may then be feed into a baling mechanism 32 that compacts and bales the debris for easy removal and disposal.

  • Patent number: 6790282
Abstract: A machine for automatically applying lane dressing travels up and down the lane to apply dressing according to a certain predetermined and preselected pattern. A single dispensing head travels back and forth across the lane as the machine moves linearly along the lane so that dressing is transferred to a buffer brush that engages the lane surface and applies the dressing thereto. The oil pattern is determined by actuation and deactuation of the dispensing head as it traverses the lane, such control of the head being provided by a special pattern control device in the nature of a cylindrical pattern tube that extends alongside the path of travel of the dispensing head. A sensor on the dispensing head detects pattern structure on the control device to responsively actuate and deactuate the head. In a preferred form, such structure takes the form of a series of metallic strips extending parallel to the path of travel of the dispensing head and spaced circumferentially around the periphery of the pattern tube.

A small pilot chamber upstream from the reservoir and in open communication therewith at the same elevation as the reservoir has its fluid level directly controlled by a float sensor to in turn indirectly control the level within the wick reservoir. The float sensor within the pilot chamber provides a signal to a controller when the level within the pilot chamber drops below a predetermined point so that a control valve between the pilot chamber and the main supply tank opens to allow a makeup volume of dressing to flow by gravity from the main tank into the pilot chamber.

  • Patent number: 6237177
Abstract: The apparatus includes a water tight vehicular body of a low profile. A user controls the vehicle from a forward cockpit. The cleaning apparatus further includes both forward and rearward booms. The forward boom has a slurry trap interconnected to its forward extent. Additionally, a brush is secured to the rearward boom. Both the booms can be elevated and lowered to selectively bring the trap and brush into contact with the ground. Thus, the cleaning apparatus is adapted to be driven into the interior of a drain pipe. Thereafter, the booms are lowered such that the trap and bush come into contact with the surface to be cleaned. The vehicle can then be driven rearwardly. During the rearward travel, the brush serves to agitate floor contaminates into a slurry. Further rearward travel causes the slurry to become contained within the trap. Through this method, floor contaminates can be removed from an enclosed region such as a storm drain.

  • Patent number: 5533222
Abstract: A floor machine for cleaning a floor and/or wall and/or downward upstanding from the wall, includes at least one disc having a floor cleaning pad covering a lower surface and wall cleaning material projecting from its periphery. The wall cleaning material may be bristles or a wrap-around separate strip of abrasive felted material, or a margin of the floor cleaning pad may be bent upwardly to form a vertical cylindrical surface. Alternatively, floor pads may be stacked to present a vertical cylindrical wall cleaning surface. The disc may be engaged with a drive shaft, or stacked discs may interengage with each other, the topmost being engaged with the drive shaft. The bottom disc may have a bevel rising from the lower surface. Bristles extend from the bevel at right angles. When the floor machine rests on the floor in operation position, the bristles extending from the bevel are bent upwardly to be forced towards the angle between floor and wall.

  • Patent number: 5337446
Abstract: An apparatus for applying ultrasonic energy in precision cleaning includes a pressure vessel having a plurality of sonic plates, with or without a rotary device located inside the vessel. The plates may be arranged centrally within the vessel to propagate sonic waves outward, or the plates may be located on an interior wall in the pressure vessel, directed inward. Each plate includes a plurality of sonic transducers, spaced along the longitudinal axis of the pressure vessel. The rotary device may include a plurality of arms carrying removable brush holders or a rotating parts basket. In either case, the device is driven by a motor mounted in a top cover of the pressure vessel. A liquid cleaning fluid, preferably carbon dioxide, is charged in the pressure vessel to submerge the sonic plates and workpieces secured in the pressure vessel. The transducers are then energized and the rotary device engaged to apply both sonic and mechanical agitation to the workpieces for enhanced removal of particulates.

Right and left side washers are attached to the frame and are longitudinally aligned with one another for washing the right and left sides of the vehicle. A curtain washer is attached to the frame in lateral alignment with the right and left side washers and extends into the path of the vehicle. Right and left wraparound washers, each respectively having an elongated right and left booms are horizontally, pivotably attached to the frame on opposite sides, above the path of the vehicle, and extend rearwardly therefrom. Rotatable right and left wraparound wheels are supported on a pair of carriages that slide upon the elongated booms. The elongated booms pivot relative to the frame allowing the wraparound wheels to follow the contour of the vehicle passing through the wash.

  • Patent number: 5309597
Abstract: A hand held device for sweeping cloth and other surfaces and to convey the sweepings to a self-contained dust pan. An endless flat belt rotating on two pulleys of unequal diameter supports a plurality of transverse brushes which do the sweeping and conveying. Rotation is derived from a motor contained within the larger pulley. The motor is driven by direct current batteries when the operator presses a switch in the handle. The smaller pulley resides near an opening in the housing. The brushes, one after another sweep through the opening picking up any residues on the surface being brushed and conveys them onto a flat surface which is parallel to the conveying leg of the belt. This plate cooperates with the brushes to convey the particles of residue to the center of the dust pan. Gravity traps the particles beneath the conveying plate in the dustpan until dumping is accomplished. The brushes continue on through a comb, on around the main pulley and back to the opening for another stroke.
