  • Patent number: 5725039
Abstract: A handbag with a reversible flap has a handbag body with a open top. The flap has inner and outer panels, each with surfaces that can be selectively exposed to change the appearance of the handbag. The flap has a front cover portion that covers the front of the handbag body and a rear attachment portion with a pair of snaps which mate with a complimentary pair of snaps in a rear pocket of the handbag. The snaps on the flap are double-sided. The inner and outer panels are attached to each other only around the periphery of the front cover portion to allow the relative sliding between the inner and outer panels in the bend portion and rear attachment portion of the flap. This avoids the creation of creases in the bend portions as the flap is first used in one position and then bent to be used in the opposite position.

  • Patent number: 5394913
Abstract: Personal leather goods (PLG's) such as wallets, billfolds, pocket calendars have a portion which is required to bend repeatedly. This bending causes cracking and extreme wear which adversely affects the looks of the item and reduces its useful life. Disclosed is a mechanical hinge which attaches to leather-like panels of such PLG's. The hinge includes a set of interleaving knuckles of relatively soft material which form an axial bore along the length of the hinge, the bore receiving a thin pintle made of a relatively stiff but resilient material. The pintle is shorter than the axial length of the bore and is held into the bore by end caps, either separately applied or integrally formed with the hinge leaf. The leaves of the hinge have an overall curving shape having a concave side and convex side to permit the panels to which the hinges attached to remain parallel when materials are received between them.

  • Patent number: 5179987
Abstract: The bag is fitted at its top end portion with a substantially semi-cylindrical framework (a), with its arcuate part turned upwards, and with a shoulder strap or a handle (3) attached to rigid end sides (G1, G2) thereof. The bag body is fastened to the four lower side edges of the framework. The arcuate upper part of the framework is defined and closed by one or two flexible pieces (P1, P2) associated with the framework through rods (17, 117) and slat-like members (18, 118), and which are stretchable and foldable in a bellows-like manner, and are lockable in bag-closing position. To open the bag, the unclamped flexible pieces need only be drawn away from each other and folded bellows-like at the lower outward side ends of the framework.

  • Patent number: 5117883
Abstract: A handbag has a side wall provided with a top rectangular opening. A rectangular flexible cover strip has a first end connected widthwise to the side wall and two peripheral edges. Each of a pair of zippers connects one of the peripheral edges to the side wall to close the opening. An inverted U-shaped handle member has two parallel portions connected to two sliding tabs of the zippers and a handling portion. A stationary shaft extends between the parallel portions. A tubular member is rotatably sleeved around the stationary shaft. The tubular member has an outer surface to which a second end of the cover strip is attached and which is in rolling contact with the cover strip. A torsional spring is mounted in the tubular member and sleeved around the stationary shaft.
